After sending my Jeep Grand Cherokee to Pugh's Service Center in Greenville, NC, in December 2018, because it would turnover, but not start. They replaced the ECM, but had to be taken to the local Jeep dealership for an OE ECM replacement and a crankshaft sensor, in order to get it to crank. Upon getting my Jeep back in March 2019, it ran fine for a few days. Then I went to start it, and it started, but after a few seconds, all of the GAUGES stopped working and all of the WARNING LIGHTS came on. I contacted both Pugh's and the Jeep dealership, telling me I should just bring it in, to run more diagnostics. The Jeep only has 94,000 miles, and I spent about what the vehicle was worth upon getting it back in March 2019; so I've been hesitant on taking it back. …
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While the vehicle was parked, there was smoke coming from the vehicle and there was a fire in the engine compartment. The fire department was able to extinguish the fire and informed that the failure might be related to an electrical failure. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign numbers: 06e011000 (fuel system, gasoline), 02V104000 (fuel system, gasoline) and 00V195000 (fuel system, gasoline). A police report was filed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 166,000.
I was driving on the freeway when my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee v8 4.7l just stalled out without any warning. It took about 1 hour to start back up. Then it died about five times after that. My Jeep also stalls out when I'm sitting at a stop light waiting for the light to change than bomb just like that my Jeep stalls out. Most the time I can start it, but some times I can't start my Jeep until the next day. I almost get slammed about 10 times already. I don't feel safe in the Jeep.. I replaced my fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plugs, crankshaft position sensor, camshaft positions sensor, battery, battery terminals, and my oil pressure sensor. Nothing has helped my stalling! Nothing! I took my Jeep to 2 different mechanics and they can't figure it out. …
Upon warming up to operating temperature, the engine shuts off of our Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. It has 81,000 very well cared for miles on it. This has happened at almost every conceivable speed (0-5mph, 10-25mph, 40-50mph, 55-80mph) and, at the most inopportune times, ie; pulling into a gas station, merging with traffic, entering an intersection, coming to or leaving a stop light, driving at steady roadway or highway speeds. My wife was nearly killed several times due to the sudden and utter loss of all power. This can and does happen on every type of road or street or highway and in every type of weather. This happens on a regular basis although there are times when we can go a week with no episodes. Upon a little investigation, I have come across multiple sites and forums where many, many people have this exact same problem. …
Sudden stalling while driving or at idle. Applicable at all speeds from idle to freeway speeds. Sometimes the vehicle will restart and other times it will not restart right away. Sometimes it will restart if the vehicle sits for about 15 minutes and other times it has left me stranded for three hours or more. I have stalled in the middle of busy intersections and freeways. I have taken the vehicle in for repairs three times, have paid over $400 in repair bills to have parts replaced and the issue still occurs. There are many complaints in internet forums for the exact same thing and most seem to lead to a faulty engine control module. I have not yet replaced the engine control module myself since they can cost over $400 and the dealer cannot guarantee that this will fix it. …
For going on 2 months now my car has stalled at the most inconvenient times. Turning into gas stations, stopping at stop lights, driving on busy streets going up to 50mph. Usually I can just pop it into neutral and restart it but as of late, it won't turn back over until I replace the ignition fuse. I have replaced that fuse twice now, replaced the map sensor, replaced the fuel filter, yet nothing has offered a permanent solution to this problem. As you can clearly tell, this is a very dangerous problem to be having and by reading through these complaints I see I am far from alone. Not to mention the cost associated with having to replace all of these parts (per advice from mechanics) while getting nowhere. Please fix this or figure out what is causing it before someone gets seriously injured or worse. …
Engine stalls without warning while driving at any speed. All gauges including speed, RPM's, temp, fuel, etc. All stay for a few seconds after stalling and then all drop off. The Jeep gc used to start up after a few seconds and was once in a while at first with this issue. Then it became more often that he Jeep would stall, the same thing with the dash for a few seconds the speed, RPM's, etc. Would be at where it was before stalling with no power steering or power brakes while moving. Very hard to steer on curves when the Jeep stalls. Put in a PCM, crankshaft sensor, & camshaft sensor. Ase mechanic stumped on issue. Very dangerous driving and reminds me of the GM ignition switch problems. And I have seen forums on the Jeep Grand Cherokee on my year that there are a lot of problems with this. Please look into this problem, because it seems like a manufacture defect.
Driving with my daughters to the beach when suddenly my steering wheel froze as I was along a winding road. Towed truck to a mechanic who diagnosed that the gear box was broken at that point he repaired the gear box. Approximately 1 week later the same exact thing except that the truck caught fire, again towed the truck back to mechanic who replaced the gear box. I thought I was going to die when I experienced my steering wheel freeze and the fire was extinguished quickly so minimal damage was suffered. In 1 year that I own this vehicle the radiator has also needed to be repaired, the locks on my driver door stopped working, the fan in the cooling system has stopped working, I have been told that the muffler was improperly installed. I never expected so many faults or so much money spent in repairs on a so called certified used vehicle.
Bought this 2000 Grand Cherokee limited and while driving it at 55 MPH, it lost power for about 5 seconds and then regained power. The next day it stalled at a stop sign but was able to restart after several tries. Was driving a couple days later and while slowing down for another stop sign the vehicle stalled and was luckily able to get to the side of the road out of traffic. Today the vehicle stalled again today approaching a red light and thankfully was able to get it to the median out of traffic. After reading post onlines, this seems like a known and common issue with the jeeps with stalling which occurs at both low and high speeds which can be dangerous if it stalls and no steering or braking abilities. A recall needs to be done since Jeep dealership can't answer to the true issue. Replaced fuel pump and filter with no success
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle suddenly shut off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the cam and crank sensors were faulty. The sensors were replaced, but the vehicle continued to experience the failure. The contact indicated that the vehicle would also stall due to the main computer overheating. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician replaced the screws to the computer. No further information was available. In addition, the front driver side seat rails malfunctioned causing the seat to move while operating the vehicle. The failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 196,000.
