I was pulling into a parking place at work. I had just turned left into the parking lot and had applied the brake to slow. I moved about five parking spots up and applying my brake again turned into the parking. During this time I had not taken my foot off of the brake pedal, only decreased the pressure. When I applied pressure to come to a full stop the car suddenly sounded like a jet engine and took off, going through a brick wall, traveling across about twelve to twenty feet of yard and plowed into the side of a house. I know that my foot was firmly on the brake and not near the accelerator pedal. Needless to say I am extremely afraid to drive this car. I had purchased this 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee from a Chrysler dealer on April 16, 2003 and for the first six months had no problems with the vehicle.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee has in past revved up and accelerated suddenly. But I was able to stop it with brakes. Today, 8/4, I was parallel parking and went into reverse. When I went into drive, the Jeep revved up and accelerated on its own. I applied brakes but car kept accelerating and tapped car in front of me. Luckily no one was hurt, but easily could have been.
The vehicle slipped out of gear when the consumers foot was not on the brake. The vehicle also had a problem with sudden and unexpected acceleration. The vehicle crashed into another vehicle in reverse then hit a steel pole which stopped the vehicle. The consumer requested reimbursement.
In motion the car shakes violently. I was on the freeway and almost wrecked the car from the shaking. I have bad back pain and scared to drive. My 4 year old is terrified of getting near the car.
(1) while traveling 70 MPH while in cruise control accelerator pedal would not disengage when I a)tapped the brake, b)manually turned off the cruise control, and c)when I physically attempted to pull up on the accelerator pedal. The speed of the car increased steadily, nearing 90 MPH, before I put the car in neutral, pressing both feet (full body weight) on the brakes and had the good fortune of many steep hills, was able to slow the car to 25 MPH, allowing me to move to an off ramp and turning off the engine. The car was towed approximately 20 miles to the Jeep dealer who informed me that all that was wrong with my car was that there was a lot of carbon build-up around the accelerator cable, and that is why it stuck. They said that "we see this alot in jeeps that are driven alot in the city". …
I had just turned right at a traffic light, driving slowly forward in a construction area, when my accelerator suddenly stuck. Within a few seconds my car hit the vehicle in front of me at an accelerated speed, causing a chain reaction with 2 additional cars. My car was totaled and I believe the one I hit directly was too...I was ticketed for careless driving even though I told the police what had happened...a year later I have heard several reports about my vehicle, a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, having this problem. My insurance company has been dealing with the subsequent lawsuits filed by 3 of the 4 vehicles hit resulting from this accident...
While my son was pulling into a parking spot the accelerator on our 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee ltd suddenly accelerated. You can see the skid marks from him applying the brakes but it went full throttle and took it into a concrete wall. The Jeep has been totaled. I have been finding a lot on the internet now that shows this has been happening to the jeeps for some time. I have filed a complaint with Chrysler - have been transferred to several different departments, and am still waiting to see if they will accept any responsibility.
