What owners report
While driving in traffic my transmission failed due to a pump failure in the transmission (diagnosed by a mechanic after the incident and having to be towed to a shop). The car stalled in the middle of an active intersection. My make and model and manufacture year was involved in a recall for this exact problem but for unknown reasons my VIN is not included. The car has been meticulously maintained and has less than 50,000 miles. The check engine light appeared immediately prior to the car losing power.
For the last few weeks my car has been stalling when I come to a complete stop or as I am breaking. Sometimes it takes as many as 7 tries of putting it in park, turning it off and turning it back on. The check engine light is not on. Mechanic cannot determine problem. I have found hundreds of other claims saying the same thing with no resolution found. This has been a reoccuring problem and is inconsistent. Can happen 5 times in a 5 mile trip and 0 times in a 50 mile trip.
We were traveling to Illinois when with out warning the car downshifted and went 55m/hr at 5000 rpm instead of 70m/hr at 2000 rpm. Incident occurred 7/22/2023. We were on the tollway coming in to Rockford Illinois at the beginning of rush hour. The mechanic found that the transmission had failed at 47,190 miles on the car. Of course the auto was out of warranty. 2015 Chrysler Town and Country Touring Van 5y or 60,000 mi on the powertrain. This could have been a very dangerous situation with the car accelerating and decelerating as we drove. The interesting thing is the certified transmission mechanic told us this was the 4th van he has seen in the last 2 weeks with the same issue. The transmission fluid was full of metal shards, now this does not seem right on an auto with only 47,190 miles on it There is documentation attached with the component data as per the computer record.
The battery and check engine lights are constantly on despite a new battery, new battery cable, and new alternator. The cruise control will randomly stop working. Abs and vehicle stability lights will go on and off. And at times headlights, dash, and radio screen will flicker and lose power making it impossible to see or know what the car is doing. Mechanic has looked at and repaired the car 3 different times and there is nothing identifiably wrong. The car is now unsafe to drive not knowing when the dash will go out, speed will reduce, or lights turn off. It is a hazard to the driver and others on the road.
The vehicle was parked in the garage when the driver entered the vehicle. The driver pressed the ignition button to turn the vehicle, keeping her foot on the brake. As the vehicle started, the wipers came on at high speed without having been turned on at the time or previously. At the same time, the engine revved and began to accelerate in reverse despite being in park with the driver's foot on the brake. The driver's door was open and crashed against the side of the garage door, ejecting the driver who had not even had time to put her on seat belt. The van continued to reverse down the driveway where it completed (almost) a 180 degree turn. The van finally came to a stop rolling up against a sidewalk curb with a couple more engine revs. A person other than the driver was the first to the vehicle after it came to a stop. He noted that the vehicle was in park. …
I was driving up hill in the city of muscatine and my automobile started roaring and accelerating near a stop sign and I could not get the auto to stop. I ended up hitting a curb and crashed into two trees and was knocked unconscious. The airbags in the front and the side did not deploy. Both sides of the car were impacted and the front also. The car was still roaring when emergency personal arrived to assist me. This caused me to have seizures and was taken to emergency room and admitted to hospital. The ups driver heard the car roaring and me crashing into the trees.
Tl* the contact owned a 2013 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated that while applying pressure to her brake pedal to the park the vehicle, the vehicle began to move forward on its own at high rate of speed. The contact began pumping the brakes to no avail. The contact was steering the vehicle trying to avoid impact with an apartment building. Red and yellow warning lights began flashing as the vehicle proceed to jumped the curb and crash into the apartment building. The contact stated that upon impact, the air bags did not deploy and the vehicle would not unlock. The contact's daughter, who witnessed the crash, was able to manually open the passenger sliding door for the contact to exit. The fire department and the police department arrived at the scene, a police report was filed. …
My Chrysler Town and Country has serious electrical issues. It started with the radio shutting off and restarting by itself, which is not a serious issue at all. But yesterday, at a red light, the radio shut off and so did the car. The engine stopped working, the accelerator pedal would not respond. It was terrifying. Thankfully we were at a red light, but if this were to happen on a busy highway, or even just on a regular street with traffic, it could be a life threatening situation. From what I have researched online, this is a common problem with Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge cars. Legal action has been taken and class action lawsuits were filed to address this matter. …
