What owners report
This is a reoccuring issue and happens daily. When the vehicle is cold and sitting all day or all night, on the first 5 minutes of driving or so, when you push the accelerator pedal from a dead stop or rolling stop, there is no throttle/engine response for at least 1.5-2 seconds. This is a HIGHLY unsafe condition and can lead to a traffic collision. I have reached out to Toyota Corporate about this and they said to bring it into my local dealer, Dick Hannah Toyota in Kelso, WA to perform the rolling stop TSB that is out on these Tundra Trucks. I received information from Dick Hannah that when they went to perform the procedures to take care of this TSB, that it had already been done and that there was nothing they could do further. They asked me to document the conditions to try and get Toyota Corporate to do something about it. …
There is an inconsistent lag in the response from the accelerator. It proves to be extremely unsafe when it occurs while trying to join traffic or cross traffic. A few times now this lag has nearly caused an accident where my vehicle would have been t-boned if the oncoming vehicle hadn't slowed down quickly.
The vehicle does not predictably respond to throttle inputs (if it responds at all), when you come off the brake pedal it will begin rolling at "idle" speed as normal but when you begin to increase throttle input NOTHING will happen for several very important seconds as you roll into an intersection or need the vehicle to accelerate to maneuver. This had happened multiple times before scheduling service appointments. The day BEFORE my appointment while trying to make a right hand turn from EB 13st St in Lemont IL to SB Bell Rd, i had stopped for the red light, verified clearance to make the turn, and began my maneuver. Once I came off the brake pedal the vehicle began to roll into the intersection but as I began to turn the vehicle and try to accelerate though the turn it did not respond WHATSOEVER. …
Stopped at a stop sign at an intersection. Intersection is 4-way, with only a 2-way stop. After ensuring cross-traffic was clear, initiated a left turn from being stopped at the stop sign. Released the brake pedal and began to accelerate.Truck only accelerated to 5mph, and then began to roll/drift into the intersection with no power. No response from gas pedal. Drifted into intersection and was nearly struck by an oncoming vehicle. Accelerator finally responded, lagged once more when attempting to accelerate quickly to get out of the intersection, and then began responding appropriately. I could have been T-boned by another motorist while drifting without acceleration ability through an intersection. My foot was firmly on the gas pedal, with no response. This was only one of two occurrences of this, the truck has not been serviced by the dealer for this issue. …
The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that while depressing the accelerator pedal from a standing stop at a traffic signal, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact stated that there was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was hesitating before responding as needed and gradually moved forward. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. Additionally, the contact stated that there was a misfire, and the vehicle was running roughly while idling after starting the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle had surged forward at high speed immediately after the vehicle hesitated and had failed to respond as needed. The contact stated that the surging of the vehicle failure had only occurred once. The contact stated that there were no warning lights illuminated during the failure. …
At a four way stop, four cars were stopped waiting for a car with right of way to turn left. Car turning left hesitated. I began to accelerate since myself and another car going straight had next right of way. Another car began to enter intersection so I let off the throttle and began to apply brakes for them to clear the intersection. This car also stopped seeing me begin to go so I hit the throttle as the intersection was clear for me. The truck, still rolling did nothing when I applied the throttle. I applied upwards of 50% throttle while the truck did nothing for approximately 2 seconds. I let off the throttle completely, for approximately 1 second and hit the throttle again to about 50% to quickly clear the intersection and not cause further confusion. The truck then lurched forward and accelerated rapidly where I had to again back off the throttle. …
The contact owns a 2023 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to respond. After the accelerator pedal was depressed to the floorboard, the vehicle responded. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who test drove the vehicle but was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to another local dealer, Joseph Airport Toyota (1180 W National Rd., Vandalia, OH 45377) who was unable to duplicate the failure after a test drive. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 21,000. The VIN was not available. …
My son was driving our 2023 Toyota Tundra (non-hybrid) at approximately 25-30 miles an hour when the engine shut down. He had difficulty steering but was able to safely brake to a stop in the middle of the road. Cars were forced to pass him on the shoulder. He was unable to restart the engine for what he estimates was approximately one minute. He was finally able to restart the engine and drive home. The next day I drove it to the Toyota dealer. The engine stalled on me one block from the dealer on a busy intersection. I was able to get it restarted, out of traffic and into the dealership where it sits today. There were no apparent symptoms with the vehicle prior to it stalling on my son. I received an engine failure warning message when the vehicle stalled on me. The dealership looked at the engine and stated that there is lose debris in the engine. …
