The vehicle was taken to another local dealer, Joseph Airport Toyota (1180 W National Rd., Vandalia, OH 45377) who was unable to duplicate the failure after a test drive. My son was driving our 2023 Toyota Tundra (non-hybrid) at approximately 25-30 miles an hour when the engine shut down. He had difficulty steering but was able to safely brake to a stop in the middle of the road. Cars were forced to pass him on the shoulder. He was unable to restart the engine for what he estimates was approximately one minute. He was finally able to restart the engine and drive home. The next day I drove it to the Toyota dealer. The engine stalled on me one block from the dealer on a busy intersection. I was able to get it restarted, out of traffic and into the dealership where it sits today. There were no apparent symptoms with the vehicle prior to it stalling on my son. I received an engine failure warning message when the vehicle stalled on me. The dealership looked at the engine and stated that there is lose debris in the engine. …

While driving on a two-lane highway at approximately 80-85 mph and attempting to pass another vehicle, the engine suddenly shut off without warning. The vehicle lost all propulsion, and steering assist was significantly reduced, creating a dangerous situation and nearly resulting in a head-on collision with oncoming traffic. Warning lights including check engine and low power steering illuminated immediately after the stall. The vehicle would not restart for several minutes and was temporarily disabled in the roadway. The vehicle was later inspected by a dealership, which confirmed through diagnostic data that multiple engine stall events occurred at highway speeds. The inspection also identified system-wide electrical voltage drops and multiple communication faults between control modules. …

was waiting for the traffic light to turn green. Vehicle in drive with foot on brake. the traffic light turned green, I took my foot off the brakes and pushed on the accelerator. Nothin happened. I saw another vehicle approaching at a high rate of speed behind me so I continued to mash on the accelerator. right before being hit by the car behind me my vehicle lurched forward a few feet then stopped again. I looked at the dash display and saw a "Hybrid System Malfunction" warning. Because of the traffic situation/location it was not safe to just sit in the road so I continued to pump on the accelerator. each pumped moved the vehicle forward a couple of feet. I did not turn of the engine because I was unsure what would happen so I continued to do that for about a mile or so until I could get to a safe place to pull over. …

My 2023 Toyota Tundra has an intermittent issue where the throttle lags or hesitates when accelerating from a complete stop. The problem occurs unpredictably and causes the truck to fail to respond when pressing the gas pedal. The issue appears to be related to the engine or throttle response system, and the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. This malfunction puts my safety and the safety of others at risk because the hesitation can occur while turning left across traffic or merging into traffic, leaving the truck momentarily stalled in the path of oncoming vehicles. The problem has not yet been officially reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or service center, but it has happened multiple times under normal driving conditions. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives at this time. …

In some cases when slowing down to a very low speed an trying to to accelerate again. There can be either a brief (1/2 second) or a very long ( > 1/2 second) delay between pressing the accelerator and the engine responding. Because of this delay its very hard to gauge when and how the vehicle will respond. In some conditions this can be a safety concern as the vehicle behaves unpredictably. I was able to verify this with engine logging data the data shows that the computer acknowledges the accelerator position but fails to advance the throttle or by any means add power for a period of time and then behaves in a expected manner after a delay between 1/2 to 1 second. The best I can gather the problem happens in a timing window when the transmission shifts from a higher gear to 1st gear. I took into the dealer who also verified the concern and opened a TAS case with Toyota. …

The issue is with the auto-braking or pre collision system. Have had multiple instances where system has engaged at low speed which also engaged the auto engine stop feature when it was not necessary. Have noticed system engages on roads with curves where it thinks the vehicle in the other lane is in front of me when its not. The most unsafe thing that happened was when a vehicle quickly changed lanes in front of me and slowed slightly. I saw the other vehicle make the unsafe lane change and was covering the brake and when i pressed the brake it went out from under my foot braking hard on its own when it was not necessary. Vehicle slowed from 65 to about 35 quickly almost causing vehicle behind me to rear end me with no way to stop the system. Since i have owned this vehicle auto brake system has engaged about 5 times and all were not necessary or unsafe. …

When at a 2 way stop sign, for example, I am fully stopped, foot on the break, I see that there is a break in the cross traffic that indicates that I am safe to cross. I hit the gas and the car does not move for a few seconds. By now the car has me in danger and the other drivers who are coming towards me in the cross traffic. I count on the car to go when I hit the gas, especially when trying to get across a busy street or accelerating from a stop to merge into moving traffic. When the car does not move for a few seconds after hitting the gas, I've now been put in danger and have caused a disruption in the flow of traffic as well as putting others in danger. No lights on the dash indicate an issue, the truck is in normal mode, and I have not had this confirmed by a dealer yet, but I've read many testimonials from other 2023 tundra drivers having the same issue.

1. There is some sort of severe throttle lag/takeoff issue that happens intermittently, but almost always several times a day. always from a stopped position. 2.When you are turning left (going across the oncoming lane) you hit the gas pedal and nothing happens for 2-3 seconds and then it shoots off like a rocket ship. I have never been so close to a severely injured or more likely fatal car crash. this severity has happened twice, once with my daughter in the car. 3. Not yet. looks like there had almost been a class action law suit back to 2022 model year (same engine I believe). 4. No 5. No warning lights ever. as stated this is going back to 2022 and i haven't visited a dealer yet as they tell the owners (there is no fix for the issue). hoping this forum can make a difference.

Vehicle was accelerating down hill when ENGINE STOPPED LIGHT came on STOP IN A SAFE PLACE. I could not accelerate the gas or control the steering vehicle glided halfway to the side of the road before stopping. Engine stopped completely when exiting the vehicle smoke was coming out of the front hood. I could not shift the vehicles gears the system was completely locked up. STEERING POWER LOW light came on. ENGINE STOPPED light came on. Tried to contact roadside assistance no one came for over 3 hours. Neighbors called a police officer and they had to tow it due to it being in an unsafe location (blocking traffic on a two lane road) without street lights. Vehicle was towed to Marietta Toyota dealership.
