Component (diode) on 60 pin PCM has a short causing injector number 6 to stick wide open. Result is a cylinder compressing fuel which can lead to explosion, also raw fuel escaping out of the tail pipe and large amounts of smoke. Gasoline pulls the oil off of cylinder wall causing excessive friction and engine damage along with catalytic converter damage. If rear ended when injector is sticking open could cause explosion or fire! I have confirmed this on 3 other 93-95 Grand Cherokee OBD I models as well. Jeep was idling near someone welding and the injector stuck open and started a fire. Fire was exstinguished immediately with dirt and water. No physical damages occurred just a scare. I moved injector 6 plug to 8, then 8 stuck open, upon putting pressure on the computer connector I realized the injector would operate normally again. …

A relatively minor traffic accident occurred on May 18, 2002. Coming down the exit ramp of the interstate, proceeded through on the green light, about 35 MPH. At the intersection my Jeep impacted with the other car in a glancing blow. The other car coming from left to right. My left front corner against their right front side. Before the car came to rest, an engine fire erupted my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The fire completely consumed the engine compartment; all wiring, hoses and some metal parts melted. The fire appeared to erupt on the driver s side of the engine. . The first responder, local pd, efforts to extinguish the fire were futile. The fire quickly began to enter passenger compartment. The fire dept responded and extinguished. Car is totaled. Fire should not have happened. .
We have a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee that has an exposed plastic gas tank in the rear and it has no protection if rear-ended it is a fire or explosion waiting to happen! The Jeep dealer installed a flimsy trailer hitch that exposes the tank even more than the after market hitch I removed to get the Jeep dealers fix. We are very disappointed and believe our life is in danger every time we drive our 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee lerado. They should install a stronger tank along with a very strong skid plate that bends up behind the tank to add to protecting the tank. Along with a much stronger hitch.
Tl* the contact owns a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving over a bump at approximately 25 MPH, the tow hitch detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 13V252000 (fuel system, gasoline, structure); however, the dealer denied the remedy to be performed because the rear end of the frame was completely rusted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 190,000.
While exiting an off ramp consumer began to smell smoke. Another vehicle pulled up beside the consumer informing him that the Jeep was on fire. The owner pulled the Jeep over, and the consumer discovered fire under the rear of the Jeep. The fire deptartment was summoned, and the fire was extinguished. The Jeep was taken to an independent service station, who informed the consumer that the differential plug was missing, and the leaky fluid caused the fire.
Tl* the contact owns a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to a dealer to be serviced under NHTSA campaign number: 13V252000 (fuel system, gasoline, structure); however, the technician refused to perform the recall repair and implement the remedy since the bolts securing the rear bumper were corroded. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 240,000.
Fuel pump failure, towed to my local mechanic(not dealer).a new pump was installed and when the mechanic got it from the dealership, they said to look for algae in the tank.they did so,and there was none!I picked up the Jeep and drove 40 miles only to have it stop running again.after having it towed back in again, only to find out another fuel pump had failed.the mechanic called the dealership to tell them of the second failure and to get a replacement;they told him to replace the tank along with the fuel pump because the tanks have been deteriorating and causing the fuel pump failures.the replacement tank from Jeep has been redesigned and carries a new part number, thus recognizing a defect! …
We went to sternberg (Jeep dealer) in jasper indiana to get the recall problem fixed and they told us it was too rusted and they could not do the needed repairs because of the rust. They did not give us any options as to how to fix this issue with the fuel tank. We have to drive this vehicle because we can not afford to purchase a new vehicle. We can not sell this vehicle because it can not be fixed. So we will be driving around with a vehicle that could explode or catch fire if we are in an accident. I am very upset by this and I really thought the government would do more to help the average consumer. I do know that if anything happens to myself or my family or my dogs my attorney will be contacting you and the Jeep manufacturer. Please let me know how this can be remedied so no one in my family is injured by this vehicle and not driving it is not an option. …
