2026 Honda Odyssey: Strong Exhaust/Fuel Odor in Cabin Causing Dizziness and Nausea I am submitting this complaint to report a potential safety issue involving a vehicle that is less than one year old. Beginning this past weekend, the vehicle suddenly began filling the passenger cabin with a strong exhaust-like odor during normal operation. The odor is severe enough that multiple occupants have experienced symptoms such as dizziness and nausea after spending approximately 10 minutes inside the vehicle. I visited my local Honda dealership to report the issue and seek assistance. According to the representatives I spoke with, Honda believes this is a known and widespread issue affecting multiple makes and models and that it is allegedly related to recent changes in gasoline formulation. …
My vehicle has experienced repeated unexpected engine shutdown/no-start events, creating a significant safety hazard. The engine has unexpectedly shut off or failed to restart while stopped in traffic and while entering traffic, resulting in a sudden loss of propulsion. On one occasion, the vehicle would not restart for approximately one minute. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized Honda dealership, and the starter was replaced under warranty in July 2025. The repair did not correct the problem. Since that repair, the same failure has occurred multiple additional times. The issue has now occurred at least six times over approximately one year. Because the condition is intermittent, the dealership has not permanently identified the root cause. …
The Auto Idle Stop system on my 2025 Honda Odyssey fails to restart the engine when the brake pedal is released quickly after a full stop. When this occurs, the vehicle stalls completely in traffic and must be manually restarted by the driver. This has happened multiple times and is reproducible. The failed component is the Auto Idle Stop/engine restart system. The vehicle is available for inspection. My safety and the safety of others has been put at risk multiple times because the vehicle stalled at traffic lights in active traffic, leaving me unable to accelerate through an intersection. The problem has been confirmed by Honda Marysville dealership. The dealer stated they could not repair the issue and advised me to modify my driving behavior as a workaround. No repair was performed. The vehicle has been inspected by the selling dealership. …
The contact owned a 2024 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while sitting in the vehicle with the engine idling on an extremely hot day, he smelled gasoline fumes on the interior of the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the cabin ventilation system, allowing fuel vapor into the interior of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 7,000.
The vehicle was stopped at a red light. This vehicle is equipped with an auto-start/stop system to save fuel. Once the red light turned green the engine refused to restart. This was the second instance. The vehicle took over 30 seconds before it would restart. None of the push-to-start buttons worked, the car would not recognize that the brake was pressed, and it had also shifted itself into park. Very dangerous while traffic was moving all around us.
While driving, the vehicle loses power, hesitates, and jerks, then stalls and shuts off without warning, especially in extreme heat and stop-and-go traffic. The failure occurs more frequently when the fuel level drops below approximately half a tank. After stalling, the vehicle will not restart until it cools down for 20-30 minutes, then temporarily operates normally before the issue repeats. Warning symptoms prior to failure include loss of acceleration, hesitation, and engine overheating. A fuel pump-related fault code has been detected. The vehicle has stalled while driving, creating a serious safety risk due to sudden loss of power in traffic. This condition matches NHTSA Recall 23V858000, which states the fuel pump may fail and cause engine stall while driving. The fuel system component believed to be involved is available for inspection upon request. …
The contact owns a 2023 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the idle stop system/auto start-stop system became inoperable. The contact stated that when the battery was fully charged, the idle start worked for several days then became inoperable. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the battery needed to be replaced. The dealer advised the contact to drive the vehicle for several weeks. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was unknown. …
The air for the last 2 summers hasn't worked right. Recently it wouldn't work until being driven for hours then it would cool off. After it would cool down the car would start to get a very strong gas smell inside. After being checked 3 different times we were informed that there was a problem with the fuel line and the design of it. We would have to have it rerouted seasonally. This is very dangerous, they said there was no permanent fix and in the mean time we were left inhaling gas for weeks. Gas inhalation can kill you. This is a very serious problem that needs addressed ASAP. We traded the car in and the dealer has it listed as certified pre owned knowing there are chronic issues with this vehicle.
