Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 2014 Ford Fusion owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked and occupied, the contact's daughter attempted to turn off the vehicle, and the brake lights remained illuminated. Additionally, while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle decelerated unintentionally while driving to the residence with smoke coming from the vehicle. The contact stated that an independent mechanic was contacted. The vehicle was taken to be diagnosed, and it was determined that the brake switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then towed back to the independent mechanic, and the contact was informed that all four brakes had seized. The brakes were unlocked, and the brake switch was replaced. The contact stated that the failure had occurred twice. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000.
Was driving when the car started to accelerate by itself. Revved up to higher rpm's. I put the car in neutral when a safety warning message showed on the screen saying, stop safely now. With a red triangle with an exclamation point in the center. I turned the car off and started it again. As soon as the engine kicked in, it started to accelerate on its own again. Stopped again and let it sit for a bit, started it up again and let it gradually accelerate on its own(didn't push down on the gas pedal)- didn't seem to accelerate correctly after that. Car is now sitting.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 Ford Fusion. While the vehicle was idling with the brake pedal depressed at a stop sign, the engine exhibited a loud sound before independently accelerating. The contact crashed into the rear of another vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed, but the cause of the failure was not found. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 3,700.
I was involved in a major collision on Thursday 8/27 at approximately 3:30 pm. While approaching the intersection to make a right turn, I removed my foot from the gas and attempted to brake, but rather than slow down, my car accelerated. When I pressed the brake all the way down it still continued to accelerate until I hit another vehicle which finally stopped my car. I am lucky no one including myself died- this is absolutely unacceptable. Ford continues to have these issues and their negligence is going to harm more people!
Pulling into parking space, almost stopped, and car lunged forward. Jumping curb. Luckily, no one was injured but did damage car. Two days later, the same thing happened. Ford had the car for a whole week and said they couldn't find a thing wrong with it. The body is now repaired but I am leery of driving it. The consumer stated on June 22, 2015, the vehicle stalled. The consumer returned to the vehicle. The consumer has since traded the vehicle. Updated 08/10/15

The o2 sensor has burnt out, & has been burnt out for a while. After refueling at any gas station the vehicle will not start up immediately after the key is turned. It takes several attempts to get the engine to recieve fuel & to turn over, and even then it struggles to start up or keep running. I have tried different patterns of pressing the gas pedal, alternating pressure & time without finding a reliable method. The vehicle has turned off if I do not keep the MPH above 15mph for at least 10 minutes, & if I stop for longer than 60seconds, it sometimes turns off. This has caused issues in light traffic, especially with the difference in speed between my car shutting off & coasting, & cars passing at 25mph or greater. …
I have lost ability to accelerate while driving on highway and vehicle would not go above 40 MPH on I-20, a 70mph road system, car jolts or jumps even without foot on accelerator so that I have no control over the car's acceleration. Gas gauge jumps wildly and randomly from 22 mpg to 99 mpg. Brake lights and other lighting systems remain on when car is completely shut down and headlights and interior lights are turned to off position. Additionally, after the car is in park and turned off, vehicle will jump forward several inches. Several additional inconsistent light issues when car is turned on and off. Passenger seatbelt does not work. Problems began 2018 and continue to present day. Local Ford dealership unconcerned and unhelpful in prioritizing the repairs after multiple calls and direct discussion with service manager.
When the engine gets to a warm temperature and then shut off and left for 10 or so minutes, when the engine is restarted, put it drive, within several seconds (15 seconds to 120 seconds) it will begin shuttering and die while driving. Restarting the engine after it quits (which takes about 2 seconds, longer than normal) will start and will again die when beginning to drive. I have been experiencing this issue for about 5-6 months on my Ford with +/- 66K miles. The issue is getting worse and much more frequent. No check engine light or diagnostic codes are present. I have experienced this issue multiple times when turning onto a busy road and it is becoming more and more of a safety concern. I do not experience this issue following a cold engine start.
While driving car down highway at approx 70 MPH, suddenly the brakes stop functioning normaly making it almost impossible to stop vehicle without using emergency brake. Also experience extreme loss of power making it difficult to reach a speed of 35 MPH with pedal pushed to floor. Ford dealership diagnosed as vacuum pump. Ford vacuum pump purchased and replaced. Within 3 weeks exact same issue again on interstate. Brakes nearly useless to bring car to a stop, loss of power. Had to have vehicle towed to get it home. Called to question warranty on Ford vacuum pump - informed vacuum pump is on "national backorder" and can't even be given an approximate date as to when a new part will be available. Maybe it's time for a recall???
