What owners report
The contact owned a 2025 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that while driving approximately 75 MPH, a Semi Truck attempting to merge onto the highway crashed into the passenger side of the vehicle, causing the driver to lose control of the steering and cross three lanes of traffic before crashing into the concrete median. During the crash, no air bags in the vehicle deployed, the collision avoidance systems did not operate, and twelve error messages were activated, including a brake error, a Four Wheel Drive error, and an ABS error. The driver sustained a concussion from the head contacting the steering wheel and lacerations from shards of glass entering the vehicle during the crash. The front seat passenger sustained lacerations to the legs and arms, the rear driver side passenger sustained fractured ribs and lacerations to the arms leg, and face. …
While driving on a dry, clearly marked two-lane highway in Montana, I had Lane Tracing Assist and Active Lane Keep/Track Assist turned on. My hands were on the steering wheel, speed was within the limit, and visibility was clear. The truck unexpectedly steered itself out of the lane toward the right-side guard rail. There were no audible or visual lane-departure alerts, no "steering assist canceled" message, and the Pre-Collision System did not apply braking before impact. The vehicle struck the guard rail. The system failed on multiple safety layers - no lane warning, no steering correction, and no automatic braking - under normal conditions (dry pavement, well-painted lane lines, daylight). I believe this represents a malfunction or defect in the driver-assist software or sensor calibration for Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. …
The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Tacoma equipped with Michelin Tires, Tire Line: Defender LTX M/S2, Tire Size: 245/70/R17, DOT Number: (N/A). The contact stated that two weeks after the vehicle was inspected and passed the inspection, while driving at an undisclosed speed and depressing the brake pedal to stop at a stop sign, the vehicle failed to stop and slid past the stop sign. The contact pulled over to inspect the vehicle and saw that the steel belts were protruding from the tires. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, and the contact was informed that the vehicle should not have passed the inspection with the tires currently on the vehicle. Additionally, the contact was informed that there was a recall on the vehicle for the back-over prevention camera screen. The contact stated that the back-over prevention screen frequently went blank. …
The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the Forward Collision Avoidance feature activated erroneously. The contact stated that the vehicle came to a complete stop. The contact stated that there were no vehicles nearby. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed of a potential software update. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000.
Twice, while backing out of my driveway, the brakes have locked up. The brakes stay locked until you tap them repetitively for a few minutes. Then the brakes will slowly release while going forward, but only lock up again when put in reverse. The vehicle cannot be driven until the next day, then it performs normally. luckily this happened in my driveway before I got on to the street. When the brakes lock, it is violent, throwing me against the seat back. The vehicle has been to two different dealers, but they could not duplicate the issue. When this happens multiple brake warning messages pop up on the dash. The manufacture has not inspected the vehicle. In fact, when I reported it to them, and sent pictures of the warning messages, they insinuated that the pictures were not from my vehicle. The manufacture stated that they do not consider this a safety issue. …
The camera is horrible. Very gritty and grainy I took it to the dealership they agreed. Tried replacing but it is still bad. I previously owned a 2020 Rav 4 and the camera was very crisp and clear. Camera should be just as good if not better for a truck. They have more blind spots. This has been an issue since I purchased the vehicle in December 2023 which is only about 5 months.
The contact owns a 2022 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that both the front driver's seat and front passenger's seat were vibrating while depressing the brake pedal. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the rear brake drums were grooved. The dealer turned the rear brake drums; however, the failure persisted. Additionally, the contact stated while driving at various speeds, the Pre-Collision malfunction warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the failure also occurred upon starting the vehicle. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the failure was caused by rainy and snowy weather; however, the contact stated that the failure had been occurring in good weather conditions as well. …
I hit an elk on the road. The elk came in direct impact with the front of my truck. No air bags deployed despite the force of the significant frontal impact. There had been no warnings or messages leading up to this that the airbags were not functional, nor was I notified that these airbags were part of any recall. To my knowledge, they are not. The vehicle is currently at a collision center for estimate preparation for the insurance company.
