Which parts fail
Components named in complaints (accelerator pedal, throttle, sudden acceleration, cruise control).
Mileage when the problem started
What owners report
- Engine throttle went into wide open throttle causing the Unintended acceleration in traffic - The truck was doing about 45mph the passing gear came on and a second I was doing 60mph I quickly applied full pressure on the brakes and the car did not slow down at all, the truck failed to STOP or slow down and was getting closer to the vehicle in front, it was in the Expressway. My only thought was too press the ON OFF button and instantly shut down the passing gear and slowed down. _ The vehicle was dropped of at the dealer for 2-weeks and was inspected no problem found. - There were no warning lamps messages on the screen or voice message at all. I am afraid to drive this vehicle it became a runaway wild horse. If I didn`t react in milliseconds i would of hit the car in front at a high rate of speed causing damage to everyone. …
Driving at approximately 55 mph and dash lights started flickering, radio went off, reset to 530 (am radio). Vehicle started sputtering and slowing down in traffic and completely shut down. Lost all power and coasted to side of road. I had no or little control of vehicle. I have "connected services" that was to warn me about mechanical and electrical failures and no warning of this happening. This enrollment was to give me "services designed to help keep you safe, secure and in control of your Tacoma from almost anywhere". "brand engagement center" not concerned of the incident. Apparently two and half year old battery failed. Replaced by myself.
The contact owns a 2020 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated while driving approximately 80 MPH, the brakes activated independent of the driver input and the vehicle slowed to 60 MPH abruptly. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be inspected. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
On Sunday, March 15,2026, I was driving from Houston, TX to Pharr, TX at the speed of 75mph on the left lane to pass an 18 wheeler, with another 18 wheeler behind me, and my truck started idling erratically. I lost speed and my service engine light came on. My truck slowed down and I almost got in a car accident with the 18 wheelers because the truck did this. The truck behind me slowed down on time and it went immediately to the right lane to avoid hitting my truck. I feared for my life. All the vehicles behind me and the 18 wheelers also went to the right lane to avoid me. By this time, the TRAC light had already come on also. I managed a space of no vehicles and steered towards the right safety lane. I pulled over at the local truck stop and stoped my truck to rest. After about 5 minutes I tried starting my truck and it wasn't starting. …
The contact owns a 2019 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The contact stated that the traction control, collision control, and LSD warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to continue driving and the warning light turned off independently. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer where the vehicle was currently being serviced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 42,600.
The transmission cooling line in my 2019 Toyota Tacoma was never installed by an authorized repair shop following an accident. This critical component failure led to the transmission failing just 1.5 hours after I retrieved the vehicle from the shop. My safety was compromised, as the failure occurred while driving at highway speeds, without any warning lights or messages indicating an issue. The failure has been confirmed by the dealership (MotorWorld Toyota) currently inspecting my vehicle. The shop responsible for the initial repairs has taken liability for missing the installation of the transmission cooling line. My insurance company (GEICO) has been involved but is delaying total loss consideration. No warning lamps or messages appeared before or after the transmission failure, which is highly suspicious. …
Acceleration delay/hesitation, unp? Try telling a driver what to doredictable and dangerous computer transmission combination. I now have just over 4000 miles on my 2018 Toyota Tacoma or 4x4 dcsb. Purchased in July, got a software update in August at about 1100 miles. While the throttle response improved post update, the hunting for gears and what gear do I belong in confusion has not really improved. I might have been able to live with some of the gear hunting/confusion, but the one issue that just kills me every time, is a delay from pressing the pedal until the vehicle accelerates when I am in a coast at approximately 15-25mph. I can literally press the pedal, count 1, 2..and then the truck revs aggressively and kicks into gear as if it's now overcompensating for the delay as opposed to what should have just been a gradual increase in speed. …
With laser cruise control on, vehicle will suddenly slam on the brakes and release with no other vehicles in front of it. This has happened 8 or 9 times in the time I have owned the truck. I have taken it back to the dealer 4 times for this problem, only to be told that they cannot duplicate it and nothing was done to repair the problem. The next day I received a recall notice to bring the truck to Toyota to repair a front sensor for this problem. I brought the truck in to the dealer and they said that water was getting into the front grill sensor and they glued a piece of rubber/foam over the sensor. A few days later the same thing happened again. My wife and I are afraid to even drive the truck and Toyota has said everything is OK. …

Toyota is recalling certain model year 2004-2010 passenger vehicles. The accelerator pedal can get stuck in the wide open position due to its being trapped by an unsecured or incompatible driver's floor mat.
Remedy: Toyota filed an amended defect report on November 25, 2009, stating that dealers will modify the accelerator pedal and, on certain vehicles, alter the shape of the floor surface under the pedal.
