I own the Jeep for 6 months now and at each fill up, fuel gets spit out of f the filler neck at the end. I try running slow, manual and the noses in different position. The jeep dealer say, there is no problem or recall for my VIN. But there is a recall part :(CNNNX321AC Tube) available form Mopar, there don't sell to the public. I like to fix this problem for more than one reason. Environmental, wasting Fuel, damaging the paint and plastic, fire hazard and fuel smell on my closes. I am a retired senior master Car technician, German (Kraftfahrzeug mechaniker Meister)with 50 years experience.
This has happened on more than 1 occasion. Driving on the highway and I lose power, the Jeep slows way down, the accelerator pedal is dead, and the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) light comes on. It does the same thing driving in town. Sometimes you can turn the vehicle off, wait a couple minutes, start it back up and it will be ok for a little bit. Sometimes it won't. I have replaced some parts, read forums, communicated with a dealer service department and it doesn't sound like there is a "fix" for this. This is very dangerous and someone could get seriously injured or killed.
The fuel filler neck has an issue. When I refuel, I have to stop the pump manually or the filler cap will overflow. This creates a significant risk for fire or explosion unless I very carefully monitor how much fuel I am putting in the vehicle. I see several other owners experiencing this issue from online information I'm reading. I feel that this is an issue which should be repaired by the manufacturer.
Since 2017, every time I pump fuel into the car at gas station, the pump overflows and spills all over the side of the car, the ground and then my feet and hands because I have to step in the puddle and put the gas cap on. I moved to tn from ca in 2016 and I have been thinking that it the shell gas pumps here in tn that were causing it...as if they were old or not up to some sort of "ca standard" or something. However, after this problem just happened to my pregnant wife with our 2 year old in the car, I decided to check a Jeep forum and see if anyone else is having this problem. Lo and behold, this appears to be a serious issue dating back 10 years to a 2010 forum I found. …
On May 29th of 2014 I was driving my 2008 Jeep Wrangler down a 4 lane city street at about 3000 RPM. I had just taken off from a red light when I heard a loud explosion that resulted in a fire underneath the vehicle. The gas tank exploded and the fire covered the bottom of the entire vehicle. There was damage under the hood on the engine side of the firewall on what appeared to be fuel lines. Luckily there was a quick response by the fire department who quickly extinguished the fire, but my Jeep has been rendered un-drivable. I have contacted both Chrysler and the dealership but not assistance there. The Chrysler investigation team would not even take a look at the fuel lines the marshal determined started the fire. I will never feel safe in this vehicle or any other vehicle produced by Chrysler ever again. …
Driving vehicle over 60mph resulted in multiple episodes of the death wobble within a 3 week period of time. Vehicle was purchased at used car dealership and state inspection was performed on the day of purchase. Within 24 hours of having the vehicle, I experienced the first encounter. I was driving down a hill at approximately 60mph and the steering felt shakey and the wheel began to wobble. It subsided as I slowed down. The next day, this occured on a major interstate at 65mph and car was towed to a Jeep dealership. I was informed the ball joints should never have passed inspection along with the fuel system. I took the car back to the dealer and he claimed to have fixed the problem. Within 3 days of getting the Jeep back, once again the wobble occurred at a speed of 65mph and I almost lost control of vehicle. This vehicle should not be on the road. …
Fueling has been an ongoing problem. I had a shut off problem in that the gas would eject from the car. Then I had a problem with slow fueling. It might take a gallon then almost stop taking forever to put fuel into the vehicle. I have taken it to begnal motors in kingston and they did address the issue and replaced the intake nozzle? And something to allow air into the tank when refueling. It seemed to be OK for awhile then went back to the fueling problem. I took it back to begnal and they seemed to believe the only solution was to replace the gas tank at my expense! This is a liability to my safety. I drove the Jeep to california and back the end of June of this year and never had a problem...I have to use my vehicle for many trips out of town and it is frightening as they told me this problem would probably get worse! …
Since 2010 I have been having issues with gas over flow when filling the tank. At first I thought it was the gas attendant and being careless. This seems to be an issue mostly in the cooler weather and winter months. It is been becoming progressively worse in the last few months where after researching and speaking with other Jeep owners have found that this has been a hazard and recall in a lot of wranglers. I have also learned that my Jeep is not been included in this recall and have to pay for this costly repair myself. I find this unfair of Chrysler to do this to faithful Jeep owners. I also found that I am not alone in these costly repairs as I might also have to replace the whole gas tank. I do not wish to turn this into a battle. Please help me out with this ongoing problem as I am a faithful Jeep lover and want to stay that way. Thank you
I bought an 08 Wrangler the end of May 2015 and experienced the gas spill at fill up almost immediately. I called armory Jeep here in albany ny about the issue and chryslers (Jeep) TSB #14-003-12 which "should" cover the repair free of charge. Well after giving my VIN# I was told Jeep would not cover my repair because my particular jk was manufactured for Canada. So I went to Jeep customer service who again denied me the repair. In the end the car dealer with whom I bought from, offered to do the repair. Great! The dealer got the mopar fuel filler tube #52059821aq and installed July 20th (again free of charge - something Jeep should be covering). Filled up tonight, July 22nd...and guess what? Same spillage.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 Jeep Wrangler. While the vehicle was being fueled, fuel exited the filler tube and spilled onto the contact and vehicle. The contact called a local dealer (stafford Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge of springfield, 7611 loisdale rd, springfield, va 22150) and was informed that the failure May be due to the fuel tank and/or filler tube. The repair would cost $900. The contact declined to pay and believed it should be covered under a recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified and did not assist. The failure mileage was 51,000.
