Vehicle's inlet check valve for gas tank does not work properly when tank is filled at fueling stations. Does not trigger gas pumps to stop causing overflow and spilling on person / clothing / vehicle and gas station property. This is a known issue for 2005-2006 Jeep Wranglers. The issue was repaired by manufacturer for newer Jeep Wranglers. Currently no manufacturer ownership on remediation issue and/or recall for 2005-2006 model year Jeep Wranglers.

I bought my 2006 Jeep Wrangler rubicon new from a dealership. After about two years I started having issues with fuel spitting put of the gas filler when filling up at a gas station. This is my wife's vehicle and she compensated by not filling it full by shutting the fuel pump off before the handle would click. Over the years I have mentioned it to dealerships and repair shops and no one ever heard of it. It is at a dealership now for another issue and again I mentioned the gas spitting out of the gas neck and running down the Jeep side and getting me wet. They said they know about the issue and that Jeep and NHTSA had addressed the issue in a compromise by Jeep offering an extended warranty on 2007 and 2008 models and Jeep sent out communications to that effect. Since I have a 2006, I never received any notification about the fuel overflow problem, until now. …

The Jeep has what has been termed the Jeep death wobble. The Jeep is all stock, not lifted at all. I have fired the parts cannon at the Jeep...all the work has been performed by factory trained technicians using oe parts. I have changed the tires twice in 20,000 miles. The Jeep gets a terrible wobble on the highway at 55mph (speed limit on 465 in indianapolis) and can only be brought under control by stopping the vehicle. Even though I have never been in an accident caused by the excessive wobble, it is definitely not safe to come to a complete stop on the highway. It's not always easy to pull over to the side of the road on a busy interstate highway. The fuel filler neck often overflows when filling the fuel tank also. There was a recall on some jeeps for this same problem. However, the Jeep dealership said my specific Jeep doesn't qualify for the fixing of the issue. …

I purchased this Jeep used and the very first time I filled the fuel tank, gas spewed profusely from the tank opening without triggering the nozzle to stop as the tank was approaching full. This causes gasoline to spray all over the vehicle, the pump, the operator, and to puddle on the ground. This same scenario has played out at every gas station I have visited since. The only solution is to try to guess when the tank is close to full and stop the pump prematurely. This is a serious safety and environmental issue that warrants immediate correction from the manufacturer. I contacted the previous owner of the vehicle and she stated that the same fuel overflow problem was present the entire time she owned the vehicle. In speaking with other Jeep owners, this is a very common problem with 2005-2006 Jeep Wrangler models and has even resulted in at least one class action law suit. …

I bought my 2006 Jeep Wrangler rubicon new from a dealership. After few years I started having issues with fuel spitting out of the gas filler when filling up at a gas station. About 1/4 to 1/2 cup at a time. Doesn't matter which staion or which pump I use. The pump I use would click off,but always a second too late. This is a very dangerous problem in that not only is it damaging my paint and wheel well flares but also spilling gas on the ground creating an environmental hazard as defined and regulated by the environmental protection agency, as well as splashing onto the person filling the Jeep covering them in flammable chemicals and exposing them to long-term health issues through inhalation and skin absorption as addressed by the national institutes of health. Not to mention with the fuel spilling out like that, it also creates a lot of fuel vapors. …

When fueling the vehicle, when the tank is full and the gasoline nozzle shuts off, approximately one cup of gasoline comes out of the vehicle filler tube and sprays the area around the filler inlet and down the side of the vehicle. This event occurs regardless of the rate of fuel flow. This event occurs when the filler nozzle turns off automatically or when the user manually controls the rate of fuel. This problem has been diagnosed by FCA as a defect in a plastic valve located in the vehicle's fuel tank that reacts negatively with gasoline additives, specifically ethanol. FCA does not consider this to be a safety issue. As the vehicle owner, I consider the fact that the vehicle spews gasoline out at me while refueling to be a safety issue and request that the national highway traffic safety administration takes steps to require FCA to resolve this issue before someone is burned. …

2006 Jeep Wrangler unlimited after getting fuel filled I pull out of station and it starts hesitating and then stalls in middle of street. It nearly caused an accident from car behind me I had to restart and it would stall and bog few more times then run OK. Today I fueled up and pulled out of station at a 6 lane divided road with an interstate with on and off ramps both sides so I had only 100 feet to cross three lanes to get into left turn lane for interstate as this lane goes under and at light turns left to on ramp, just to give you insight on situation, I fuel up pull out and it shuts off cars have to stop I am in middle of three lane dead in the water it starts back up and I pull up thank god a safe distance to car in front of me and it bogs down and the surges making the Jeep thrust forward had to brake hard no accident was caused but god forbid it could have please research this.

Fuel tank filler neck spills gasoline forcefully over the side, fender flare and ground, which requires a spill kit to be used to cleanup the puddle created by this spill. This problem has occurred before and was fixed using the same faulty parts which at that time was under warranty. Approximately 4000 miles later the same spilling of gasoline occurred but dealership said the vehicle was outside the warranty period and that it would cost me $1000 to repair. I believe this is an extreme fire hazard as well as a possibly severe injury to myself as the gasoline could fly into my eyes or unto my clothes. I demand a complete new fuel tank configuration and fuel filler neck parts. Two exact problems means faulty equipment parts and should be repaired with updated parts. The first time it was fixed is listed below.

I have a 2006 Jeep Wrangler tj I bought used have had it going on 6 months and everytime I go to the gas station and fill up when the pump kicks off the gas spews out all down the side of my Jeep flares and the Jeep itself and down onto the ground when I filled it up the first time it was all over my hand my leg and ruined my shoes!! I got on a jepp forum and was told to get a GMC filler hose with a check valve and I did and paid to have it installed and I still have the same issue. I have done a lot of research on the internet and I am not alone here this is a huge issue and it is going to lead to someone getting hurt or worse killed!! Is this what it's going to take for you to fix this problem with the wranglers? I sure hope not!! This is beyond ridiculous and needs addressed and fixed asap.....

When refueling fuel tank on this vehicle the fuel pump will not shut off when fuel enters filling tube of vehicle thus causing fuel to be spilled out of the filling tube and onto exterior of vehicle, driving surface and fuel filling system including the hoses and pump(s). The fuel flow has such force that the person operating filling pump will also be sprayed with fuel on their person and clothes as well as areas mentioned previously. This causes a severe explosive environment in the proximity of static energy. I have never refueled my vehicle without the overflow happening unless I only partially filled my fuel tank, why have a 19 gallon tank if you can only use 2/3 of it? There is a sever danger of fire/explosion due to the amount of fuel that is spilled before the pump is stopped.
