Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 2008 Jeep Wrangler owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).
The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Wrangler equipped with Powerstop Brake Hoses, Part Number: (N/A). The contact stated that after installing the brake hoses to the rear driver's and passenger's side brake assemblies, there was smoke coming from the rear driver's side brake rotors while operating the vehicle due to brake fluid leaking from the hose. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure. The contact was informed of the NHTSA Campaign Number: 24E053000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was not provided.
On my 2008 Jeep Wrangler (lhd) dashboard, the airbag warning light flashes on every other minute with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags.this has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2008 Jeep Wrangler (lhd) owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. This faulty clockspring is the culprit for potential airbag failure in the 2008 Jeep Wrangler (lhd) during an accident or premature deployment when simply driving around. Daimler Chrysler has refused to address the safety concern of their faulty clockspring that can cause failure of the vehicle's airbags from properly deploying." right hand vehicles have been recalled but not the left like I drive.
I purchased a 2008 Jeep Wrangler 4x4 4door. Was going to put new brake pads on the vehicle and tried to use the factory supplied jack, the Jeep was on pretty level ground but the jack was unable to lift the Jeep high enough to take the tire off safely. The jack was in such a high position that the vehicle wouldbe to unstable to continue making this a very dangerous situation waiting for a accent to happen. I now carry two pieces of a 4x4 in case I have a flat that I May need to change. I believe that Jeep needs to address this as a safety issue and issue out new jacks that are able to have the clearance needed along with stability. All 4 door jeeps are the same since hey came out as a new model in 2007 so this would be from 2007 to 2011. …
When driving at approx 30 MPH car began to overheat. Another time, when in traffic, driving 10-20 MPH, car began to overheat, coolant liquid in plastic container was boiling. A very small amount of fluid had escaped through the radiator cap and was bubbling on top of the radiator. I stayed pulled over until traffic cleared, then drove home with heater turned on to hopefully keep the fan running. Checked thermostat 04/09/12 which was not defective. Radiator checked and flushed and found no defect. Replaced fan resistor on 04/10/12. Still fan does not turn off and on correctly (I think) because problem persists although I don't drive it as much anymore. Overheating continues to be a problem and if I am in stand-still traffic I'm afraid now that the fluid will boil again and like other reports, might cause a fire. I couldn't believe it when I read the reports. …
I purchased a used Jeep that had floor mats that I found out had a safety recall that stated the hole that is used to hook floor mats to the floor board could tear causing gas pedal to stick causing a crash. When I contacted them they told me that they will only fix the issue if I was the original purchaser of the floor mat. Then in a follow up email they stated that the warranty only applies to the original purchaser. This is not a warranty issue but a safety recall by quadratec ( see their recall post ) https://www.quadratec.com/images/flr.pdf I then sent a follow up letter asking them if in fact they are telling me that it is okay to use the product or if they are telling me that they will refuse to replace or repair a self described safety recall. This is a recall issue not being honored by the company quadratec.
Waiting over 5 months to repair a recall notice form Jeep. I called the dealer middle of November, they called back 1st week in December, stating parts were in and to come in and they would fix it. When I arrived they stated they did not have all the parts and I would have to come back. I am still waiting. It is the towing system, Jeep states that you should not tow until it is replace. I have check each month and they keep telling me no parts are being made yet and they would let me know as soon as they get them. Now I have a second recall and this one is for the trasmission, well this one take forever to repair. [redacted]
Chrysler safety recall j24, mopar tow bar. There appears to be a problem within Chrysler/Jeep ability to fix the problem. Even though the recall affects only 308 units the repair parts are not readily available. Dealers are restricted to ordering only one repair kit per week. The dealer knows nothing the Chrysler hot line assured me (after I inquired about the repair) that the repair kit for my vehicle would be sent to the dealer. They answered my question of when by saying they didn't know when the kit would be sent. Great. No more vacation travel pulling a Jeep behind the rv until the kit finally comes in. It appears that notification of a problem and solving the problem are not one in the same.
2008 Jeep Wrangler jk, equipment. The provided floor jack to change tires is insufficient. When placed in the recommended position to raise the vehicle (location in the owner's manual) the jack at full extension is not long enough to raise the vehicle. At full extension (also not recommended in the owner's manual) causes an unstable jack which increases the risk of the vehicle falling. The provided jack is too short making it unusable. To use the jack, you'd have to put makeshift blocks under it to raise it (not recommended), or buy an aftermarket jack. Hopefully, no one's been hurt yet.
I purchase a 2008 Jeep Wrangler as an off road vehicle. The model has a key recognition key and in this last year has failed twice. Both times we have had to have the vehicle towed to a dealer, replace the wcm, and reprogram the key. The safety issue is: fortunately I was in edmonton both times the wcm failed. If it had been one month earlier I was 50 miles in the bush with an 80 year old diabetic. No cell phone access. There is no manual override for this vehicle therefore you are stranded. It should not be marketed as an off road vehicle until the problem is corrected.
