Any time you fuel this vehicle the fuel gushes out of the filler neck. We have tried several different fueling stations . Different times of the day and night. Nothing changes , the fuel still blows out. Sometimes even if you pump slow it will still spew back out. Not every station has the rubber splash guards on their nozzles. The reason this is a danger is very obvious. Gasoline has a low flash point , not to mention the health risk of the vapors. One freak spark unrelated to me fueling could have deadly consequences. I spoke to jeep headquarters about this issue. They refused to give me the lot number for the faulty fuel tanks. The fuel tanks that had issues was on 2008 and earlier jeep Wranglers. Our jeep was manufactured in 2/2009 and from what I have gathered uses the exact same tank as the 2008 and earlier tanks back to a certain year. …

When filling my tank, it spits gas back out of the nozzle. I've been told in several forums that this is a warranty issue and is to be replaced by a dealership for free. The item that needs to be repaired is a fuel filler tube. I don't wanna spend the money on buying the part myself if this is something that is covered by the dealership through the factory. This happens every time I fill the tank and has been an ongoing problem for over a year almost 2 years. I have to fill it very slowly with gas as well. I cannot fill it fast as it will stop automatically. The part number is 52060489AH

Every time I fill the fuel tank it will overflow quite profusely. Not just a trickle, but more like a quart or more. Not only is this manufactured defect a COSTLY inconvenience, BUT A POSSIBLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. Not to mention stinking like gasoline when I arrive at my destination, which was Sunday church service the last time. Research has shown me there has been recalls for this issue on jeeps very near my vehicle's "birthday". I grew up pumping gas for my parents at the station, but now I have to be sure there is a "splash zone" of at least 5 feet of distance from the filler so innocent bystanders don't get splattered. I have been verbally attacked numerous times at the pump because of this manufacturer defect. …

Purchased new 2009 Jeep rubicon and picked it up at the dealership on wed. 3/3/09 with 6 miles on the odometer. Drove less than 2 miles to private property and drove up dirt hill (nothing that a Jeep couldn't handle) & it got stuck. Left rear wheel wasn't turning even though in 4w low. The wheel should have been able to move the entire vehicle since it was in 4-wheel drive. The driver got out to check the wheel and the fire was under the back of the vehicle & a loose hose was leaking some liquid. The driver tried to put out fire and was unable to. The fuel tank cracked (unkown if due to fire or if it caused the fire) and Jeep continued to burn since tank was full. The vehicle is a complete loss. Driver sustained second degree burns to right hand and his legs. No other injuries. The car fire started a small grass fire that was quickly contained. …

I just purchased the Jeep 2 months ago and ever single time without exception I get fuel spit back when fueling the Jeep. When fueling the Jeep the nozzle at the pump will cut off and 1-2 seconds later gas comes shooting out of the fuel tank. Today 3/2/2016 I could hear the sound change just before the nozzle cut off and tried to stop fueling before the spit back but was still to late. The behicle was stationary and shut off at the gas station. This happens weather it is hot or cold high elevation or lower. Denver is/was 60 degrees today. 5280 elevation. Last weekend in winter park 28 degrees and over 9000 elevation. Next time I fill up I will film the spit back.

When filling fuel tank, gas nozzle kicks off then fuel splashes back out of filler neck and goes every where, any where from a quart to more. I have been sprayed to many times and had to drive with gas on my clothes. This is very dangerous not only from risk of fire but from breathing gas fumes on ones clothes. I talked with Jeep customer service and ask why they didn't have a recall on this problem and was informed they don't issue recalls unless they are forced. What's up with that, I hope you all will change your decision and force a recall before someone gets hurt. I can also send a video of gas slashing out every where if you need proof.

When filling up my 2 door Jeep Wrangler it never fails to overflow, it doesn't matter what pump I use or how fast or slow I fill up. I have researched that they fixed a couple years and mine doesn't fit into that. I feel it is very frustrating that they won't fix all years considering they know this is a common issue and a safety hazzard as the gas doesn't just get all over my vehicle and the ground but myself as well. This has been happening for a couple months, I thought it was maybe the pump or the way I was pumping the gas and nothing I have done to change it has helped.

Fuel overflows and sprays out when filling tank at gas station. It happens every time we fill the tank over the last two years or so. (our Jeep has not been a primary vehicle until recently) I've never had this happen with any of the other vehicles I have driven over the last 32 years. We had planned to let our 16 year old daughter drive this vehicle. Now I have concerns that this vehicle could be too dangerous in its current state for her to drive. The amount of fuel spilled is significant. I am writing you now because my daughter had it spill out on her today.

Gas tank over flows everytime I fill gas tank, goes all over the side of the car, all over the ground and gets on me . It's dangerous, wasteful and is damaging the finish on the outside of vehicle. Mfg says it's not covered under any recalls. Note: happens regardless of which gas station , which setting on the pump handle or how far the gas nozzle is inserted into filler tube. Internet search shows other years have been recalled for condition.
