At 2900 miles, my check engine light came on while I was on vacation out of state. Within a couple of seconds, my car started to choke and jerk so bad that the passenger could feel it. It did this intermittently, to the point I knew it needed to be seen before driving 900 miles home. Several times since then, my safety was put at risk due to my vehicle not accelerating when it should. I have had many cars almost hit me from behind when this has happened. Luckily, I have not yet. I took my vehicle to a Jeep dealer in Foley, Alabama because that is where I went for vacation. They looked at it ran the code and told me it was a stored code. I asked him what that meant and could I still drive the vehicle. He said the light should turn off in a few drive cycles. That did not happen. When I got back to North Carolina, I took my vehicle to the dealer I bought it from. …

When stopped at a stop sign (on a slight incline, if that could be a factor), the Compass suddenly lost power. No reaction from pressing the gas pedal at all. In Drive or in Reverse. The Check Engine light came on and the temperature gauge went all the way up. Putting it in Park and restarting cleared the Check Engine light and the temperature gauge was right back to normal. Almost like nothing had happened. Thankfully it was a small intersection with no other traffic. But could this happen on the freeway?

Gas pedal broke off while driving. It is made of plastic and the arm that attaches to the pedal snapped off. We towed to a shop to have repaired today. No warning lights or sounds. Thankfully I was going slow and not on a busy street. It could have been a bad outcome if I was merging into on coming traffic. My safety and others were at serious risk due to my car not being able to accelerate with no warning.

Coolant mixing with oil three times in a month span with new parts being replaced. With further inspection, driver was not at fault. Vehicle malfunctioned. Overheating after replacement of thermostat, head gasket, and water pump. Auto start/stop goes on and off requesting service.

2020 Compass · Feb 2024

On at least three separate occasions, without warning, the coolant sensor suddenly goes in to a false coolant temperature alarm as if the temperature has climbed to maximum heat. While the alarm is active, you are unable to accelerate and have no power steering. After a second, the alarm vanishes and coolant temperature gauge shows temperature back at normal operational level. This has happened while driving 65 MPH on a highway. This also happened while trying to make a left-hand turn at a busy intersection. This is quite frightening and if this were to occur at the wrong moment could easily result in an accident. Other owners of the same model vehicle have reported this exact same issue in online forums such as MyJeepCompass.com. In all reported cases, dealers and mechanics are unable to determine the problem after replacing the coolant sensor and trying every possible solution. …

2019 Compass · Sep 2021

There is a large system failure in the Jeep Compass, in which the oil is getting mixed with fluid, causing the transmission fluid to become like chocolate milk. This failure is all in the way the vehicle is manufactured that it causes damage to both the transmission and engine costing approximately more than 14k in repairs. The problem has been confirmed at a dealership, as well as too other 2019-2020 Jeep Compass owners and Jeep has done nothing. It is a safety issue as the vehicle stopped in the middle of the fwy, and needed to be towed. All oil changes and maintenance done at dealership on time and nothing was ever caught, was told this is a common problem for this year's models. A warning lamp popped up the same day I had an oil change appointment. It has not been inspected as no one seems to care to help. …

On August 25, 2026, my 2018 Jeep Compass equipped with the 2.4L engine became inoperable approximately five months after I purchased it. The vehicle had approximately 68,000 miles. An independent repair shop initially found no fuel pressure and replaced the fuel pump and spark plugs. The vehicle remained mechanically compromised, and testing showed only 99 PSI compression in cylinder 3. The shop recommended engine replacement at an estimated cost of $9,221.49. Jeep confirmed that the vehicle was associated with Customer Satisfaction Notification W20 concerning excessive oil consumption and potential engine stalling, as well as XB1, the 2.4L excessive-oil-consumption warranty extension. Jeep stated that XB1 expired on September 20, 2025. …
