What owners report
In colder temperatures, the instrument gauge cluster begins flickering like there is a loose connection. Online research indicates there are many honda fit owners who are experiencing the same thing and the problem appears to be related to the solder joints that expand and contract in cold/warm temps, causing connectivity issues.
I am a 76 year old Minnesota woman who lives on a limited budget. I purchased a used 2018 Honda Fit from Richfield Bloomington Honda (RBH) on 04-07-21. Initially the tachometer & speedometer gauges could easily be read during both day and night driving. Within about a month, during daylight driving these gauges became dark and very difficult to read - especially while driving with sunglasses during the day to protect my eyes from UVA and UVB rays. Other Honda Fit owners have experienced the same issue. Here's a post I found on the internet: "I traded in my 2015 Fit last year for a 2017 Fit Sport. I seem to recall that, on the 2015, when in "daylight mode", the speedo/tach/fuel gauges were automatically brightly lit at full brightness. I've noticed lately that on my 2017, only the fuel gauge lights up brightly in daylight. The tach and speedo remain completely dark and barely readable. …
About a year or two after purchasing the car new in 2016, we noticed that the instrument panel right side which has fuel gauge, odometer, trip information and other key operating vehicle information would go blank or the digital readout would go haywire and turn into gibberish. This generally happened on cold mornings and the display would revert to normal within 10 minutes to one hour. We took it to dealer where vehicle purchased in Phoenix, who was unable to recreate the problem and therefore they did nothing. The problem has persisted since then but recently has worsened to the point where the display is blank almost all of the time and not working in hot weather as well. …
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 Honda Fit. The contact stated that there was condensation in the headlamps. The vehicle was taken to young Honda (1855 n main st, logan, ut 84341, [phone]) where it was diagnosed that the vehicle was operating as intended per service bulletin: a-15-060c (exterior lighting). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and the contact was informed again that the vehicle was performing as intended. No further assistance was offered. The contact was concerned that as per fmvss108, page: 718 under humidity test procedure, that the vehicle failed to meet vehicle safety standards for headlamp manufacturer. The approximate failure mileage was 26,500.
The fuel gauge in the gauge cluster turns on and off unexpectedly and without reason for extended periods of time. The gauge will also do what I like to call hieroglyphic numbers, essentially unreadable lettering clearly due to an electrical malfunction. This is very distracting as a driver and has put me in a very near death experience from the fault. This problem makes it impossible to read the fuel quantity during or before operation of the vehicle. It has been confirmed by dealer that the fault is due to a damaged solder and has been clear that this is a common issue with most Honda fits.
The fuel guage/mileage/mpg display flickers on and off intermittently. Sometimes it displays properly, sometimes it displays gibberish and sometimes nothing at all. There really is no correlations to be made as to why it is doing this, it can happen any day at any time or not at all. 2015 Honda Fit
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 Honda Fit. The contact stated that the warning indicators illuminated for the electronic stability control, traction, and brake lights. The vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the vsa module failed to function and needed to be replaced. In addition, the battery continued to have a low voltage and was replaced; however, the contact was uncertain if the failure would recur. The manufacturer was notified and indicated that the vehicle was not included in any recalls for the electrical system. The contact was excluded from NHTSA campaign number: 13V157000 (electronic stability control). The approximate failure mileage was 32,300.
While driving the radio, dash lights, head lights, and power steering cuts out for a moment then comes back on. This started occasionally 3 months ago with just the radio and dash lights and has progressed to several times in a row and now includes the head lights and power steering. There is no predictability to when or how many times it will happen. Once it happened when I was coming off the highway going around the ramp at a good speed, the electrical went out I lost power steering and almost hit the guard rail it came back on just in time for me to regain control. Took it to Honda dealer with my complaints; they did a multi point inspection and checked faults-no faults stored. Also checked wiring and connectors-all OK. …
