What 2010 Honda Fit owners say
Air bags all 84 →
I was in a wreck where I tried to switch lanes from the left to the right, and my power train switched off- which caused electrical parts to splatter into my engine. I then lost control of the power steering. I tried to over correct twice and crashed into the highway divider to avoid hurting anyone else. The only airbags that went off were the passenger side- no driver's side, front or center. The evidence of the vehicle will show this along with my bodily injuries.
I called the Honda dealership in Concord California on 12/2/2024 for the 20V-770 recall as well as the airbag shrapnel issue. They checked with the service manager and refused to inspect the drive train unless there "Was a problem with the car". They refused to repair the air bags unless "something happens, hopefully nothing happens then we can look at it." They offered to have the airbags repaired at our expense. What is the point of having a recall if the dealers refuse to even look at the car until it crashes or hits you with shrapnel?
Electrical system
Vehicle suddenly spun to the right 180 degrees and slide sideways and over an embankment and onto its side. Vehicle was traveling at approximately 35 MPH on a straight section of highway 31 north in whitehall michigan. Vehicle was under light power (pressure on the gas pedal) on a snowy/icy road. Temperature was in the low 20 degrees. Car had been driven for about an hour when the failure occurred. Video camera in the car recorded a possible electrical failure, which May have effected vehicle's electric power steering system causing the car to lose positive control. Vehicle has a history of headlights burning out and being replaced on a yearly bases, both main headlights and fog lights. Car also has a history of electrical flickering. Driver is 6o year old male with 44 years of driving experience in winter conditions with no accidents.
Car was driven off the lot with 7 miles on odometer in April 2010. Passes all nh state inspections. Had no indication there was any issue with car until I went to reregister in January of 2011. Car would not pass nh state inspection because the emissions monitoring computer was in a default state. Had dealership look at it and they were able to get the nh state inspection to pass after replacing a relay. In January 2012, had same issue. This time they replaced a main electrical junction box. Again in 2013, failed nh state inspection. Dealership could not find an issue, but was able to get car to pass. Again in January 2014, then January 2015. Dealership talked with Honda engineers, but no resolution was available. I was informed it was due to the winter and the slow turnover of the car was dropping the electrical power below 10v, and resetting computer. Not satisfied with this result.
Steering
The contact owns a 2010 Honda Fit. The contact stated while driving at 35 mph, the power steering warning light illuminated and the vehicle loss power steering functionality. The vehicle regained power steering assist and was coasted to the side of the roadway. While accelerating, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the power train failed and needed to be replaced. The technician replaced the engine coil spring and disconnected the battery however, the failure recurred four times. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer four times. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V770000 (Power Train) as a possible solution to the failure however, the Vin was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 215,000.
Just purchased the car and it suffers from "Memory Steer". After a turn, the steering does not return to neutral, but the steering wheel requires input to straighten out. Alignment, Strut Bearings and Ball Joints checked OK, suggesting the binding is in the steering column, Steering Rack or perhaps the Electric Power Steering. The problem occurs at all speeds.
