Owner reports

Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 2011 Ford Edge owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).

Driving at night is very dangerous as my headlights are extremely dim (even with new bulbs). The high beams are no better as they don't illuminate the road far enough or bright enough to see objects at night more than 100 feet away. I get anxiety driving at night because I can't see much and this is a problem with Ford Edges of various years with halogen bulbs. Many have had to buy conversion kits to install HID lights because the headlights are so bad. There are several online forums of Edge owners who are very dissatisfied in the quality and safety of the headlights. I believe this is a very serious safety concern and that a recall should be placed on the vehicle. Car owners should not have to spend hundreds of dollars to modify a brand new or used vehicle because the headlights don't illuminate well enough to drive safely.

My car will turn on the lights in the middle of the night, without anybody in it. Battery is continuously dead, even after replacing with a new battery. The alternator and starter have been checked and are good. The passenger door ajar is always on. When I lock the car with my key fob it honks twice and the lights inside the car remain on. The car will die while driving it, when I am at a stop light. The engine light will come on and the only warning that appears is passenger door ajar. Other Ford vehicles have a recall for these horrible issues and my vehicle should be as well. This is a major issue caused by Ford. Period. There is no specific date for this issue, it happens every single day since I have owned this 2011 Ford Edge SE FWD

About a year and a half ago I had a problem in which my headlights and highbeams would turn on but then shut off. If you turned them off and back on, they would come on but go out again. I paid to fix this problem. It's now happening again. It'll be the second time in two years with the same issue. I've searched online and others with the same year car are having the same exact problem. There's no recall listed on this but it's a safety issue that keeps happening. The date of the second incident is 12/5/23.

My car is a 2011 ford edge sport awd and the brake lights will stay on after using the brakes. It is available for inspection. It is a safety hazard because others around me are not always seeing an accurate signal. I have not taken it in to be looked at yet, i just have been lifting up on the brake pedal after i use the brakes. there is on warning or notifications stating the brake lights are still on.

the hazard lights will turn on while driving, and or while the vehicle is parked, thus draining the battery. The button to turn them on and or off is a "pressure sensitive" button which fails from the swelling of heat and or moisture. This is a major issue as the vehicle can't be driven now since the hazards just turn on and off.

Passenger door ajar light stays on and doors won't lock, and the exterior lights come on when the car is parked and not running They had a recall for the drivers side door latch, but not for the passenger side

Door ajar warning light comes on every time we get into the vehicle and never goes off no matter how many times we close the door. Doors do not lock as car begins to move. Dome lights stay on for extended period when we start driving and after we have parked the car at end of trip. Back up camera doesn't function some of the time, and it never functions completely as it should. Car horn goes off at random times while car is parked with no one near it. It is a random sounding honking, not the consistent honk it makes when the panic button is pushed. Radio sometimes will not turn on, and sometimes when radio is on while driving, it won't turn off, even after car is turned off, key is taken out, we get out of car and lock it. Syncing system doesn't work right. Phone calls disconnect randomly. …

"door ajar" warning light on dash does not go out. Also, twin interior lights do not go out. This draws down battery when parked and is a safety issue when driving at night. Fix from Ford dealership is $400+. This is ridiculous, and seems to be a systemic problem. I saw on line repairs of how to fix going back to 1998 Ford model from windstars, to rangers, to edges - all models years, all with the same problem. Ford has not bothered to fix this problem for years!..3-days ago, I took my 2013 Ford taurus to the Ford dealership in lancaster, sc for a safety recall to fix defective door latches, and a separate recall check on lights on the license plate for possible moisture leakage. So, I got a safety recall on possibly failed seal on license plate lights, but no recall on an issue with the lights on in the vehicle cab while driving at night??? …

This is a follow up complaint as advised by mary at Ford motor company. Ford did issue customer satisfaction program 19n09 refund for the driver side latch, however I had to replace the passenger side latch as well so would like a refund on both latches. Door ajar lights stay on which causes automatic door locks to fail, dome lights to remain on while driving as well as when vehicle is parked and turned off. When driving this causes a safety hazard because anyone can enter the car at a stop sign or light and cause harm to vehicle occupants. Additionally, dome lights stuck on while driving also poses a safety hazard. When vehicle is off and dome lights stay on, this drains the battery as well as fuses. We have had to replace the vehicle battery as well as fuses. We recently had to pay $1144.40 to have the door latches replaced and were told this is a known issue with Ford. …

The dome lights come on when I get in my car (or sometimes when it's just sitting in the garage) and they stay on because it says that a door is ajar but it's not. Initially I had 2 doors replaced per advice of my Ford dealer but it didn't last long before the lights were on and the message came back. At night it is especially unsafe because of the glare. The light eventually fades as I pick up speed, but until then it is dangerous at night. I have also had to replace and recharge my battery and I know it's because when I get out of the car, the light stays on for a couple of minutes before it goes off and sometimes I come out and see that the light is on in the car for no reason. As a result of the car thinking the doors are open, I cannot lock the doors, they just pop back up. Very unsafe for a woman driving at night, especially. …
