Car went out of control after driver put the car into gear to move it from a parked, idling position, after noticing a burning like odor. It was noted by the driver at that time that the temperature gauge was in the red zone. When the driver attempted to move the car to a safer parking area only a few feet in distance, she heard a sharp snapping sound and also felt a vibration in the steering wheel/column area. The car suddenly lurched forward, the head lights and dash lighting went completely out as the car began accelerating out of control. In addition, there was no steering or brake control. No work has been done yet to correct these problems because an insurance company is involved.
At approximately 1815 23 August 2001, her grandson entered the left passenger seat, climbed into the front seat over the console slipped against the shifting lever (on the steering column) with his right elbow. The car started moving. He tried to stop the car by pushing on the "middle" pedal. He stated he couldn't stop the car and that it hit a tree on the right fender, bounced over and into the ditch, and kept going into another ditch. The second ditch (the adjacent yards of the three properties involved were downhill slopes.), the left wheels hit a slight embankment, turning the car to the left, slowing the vehicle some. A neighbor moving his lawn was persuing the car, and stated he instructed the boy to unlock the doors, while still in motion and when the boy complied, opened the door and applied the brakes. …
I have had this car since it was new. In 2008 it died on my wife, luckily she was able to pull over to the side of the road. To make a long story short she has never drove it since. I have spent about a $1000 bucks trying to find out what is going on. It will start up after you get stopped and put it in park. I have took it to the Chevy dealer and left it with them and it never acts up so they are not any help. You never know when it is going to die on you so you must always drive in the right lane so you can pull over. You loose power steering and power brakes. I have called GM and ask them about it but they just say there is not a recall on my car.after watching tv about all the GM cars that are dyeing I think my car is doing the same thing. I think it is the key switch. …
I was heading to work I slowed to turn right on to the on ramp of the interstate, as I began my turn I lost all power the vehicle shut off, lights went dead and the brakes went out. I made it to the curb and vehicle would not restart.vehicle had to be towed home. I have checked all that could have caused the issue and have narrowed it down to the ignition switch, battery has been replaced even though it checked fine. Starter is brand new. Mass air sensor checks OK and cam and crank sensors check OK. I was lucky if I had been on the interstate I would have had no chance to recover from this failure. Even though this vehicle is 14 years old this type of failure should not have happened. I have never carried more than the ignition key and key fob on the key ring as both my wife and I use the vehicle.
Problems with the braking system at 18K miles. The brakes began to vibrate and hum, the dash board lights came on which stated there was an ABS and traction problem. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they found a there was a senor problem. The rear wheel senor was showing a problem which resulted from the left front strut, where connector c101 and connector c045 wires passed into the trunk under the carpet. The consumer experienced problems with the brakes on several other occasions. The consumer also experienced electrical problems with the vehicle.
Entered my parked car on a sloping driveway and started the engine to pull away. I hit the brake pedal to put the car in gear and the brake pedal gave under the pressure of my foot and went to the floorboard. No brakes, car rolled into street and I was able to drive home with very little stopping ability. Thank goodness I only had to go a short distance to my house with no stopping required in the 6 mile trip. As it turns out the rear brake line had rusted away and blew out under normal use and dumped the fluid.
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Impala. While driving approximately 40 MPH, the brake pedal traveled abruptly to the floor when pressure was applied. The vehicle failed to stop until the gear was shifted into the park position in combination with the parking brake engaged. The contact replaced both rear brake lines due to extensive rust corrosion. The manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The approximate failure was 148,000. The VIN was unavailable.
