I purchased the van and noticed that at times it would suddenly de-accelerate and drop from whatever speed im doing and refuse to speed up even if I press the gas peddle to the floor. Id come up to a stop sign and stop, then at times it wouldnt accelerate, even with the peddle to the floor, it would barely move forward. I brought it back to the person I purchased it from tried to describe what happened, they had someone check the transmission and said it was fine. Its continued to do this, and has almost caused crashes because it does it periodically and without warning on inclines, at red lights, if I driven a long distance (i.e. 1hr or so) etc, and when stopped. Its done this especially when it comes to hills, its terrifying but I have no other vehicles and now only drive it locally, avoid hills, and only if I absolutely have to. …
Multiple times got into the vehicle (no specific time this would occur) and attempted to start the vehicle. The vehicle would start as it was in the park position. When the van would be placed in reverse it would engage and backing up would occur. Once then the vehicle was placed in drive, the vehicle would then shutter and then stall out. This did occur twice while driver was pulling out, and the vehicle stalled in the middle of the road. After multiple attempts the vehicle would finally start. After the first two times this occurred, we started documenting the amount of fuel in the vehicle and each time this occurred it was on or below a quarter of a tank of gas. Since keeping at least a 1/2 tank of fuel, the vehicle has not exhibited this behavior. The vehicle was taken to local mechanic to be looked at. …
The contact owns a 2011 Nissan Quest. The contact stated while attempting to park the vehicle, the vehicle stalled without warning. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic but was not diagnosed or repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V076000 (Electrical System, Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was informed of failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
If I push the brakes to make the car stop, then try to have it accelerate again, like at a stop sign or anything, the gas pedal feels like it's not doing anything, and the car doesn't start for like 5 seconds, then when it does it goes about 5 mph for like 500 feet, then it goes back to normal, and because of this we feel it's not safe to operate. This happens every time I drive it, so I only feel safe on not very populated roads driving it.
Our gas gauge indicated that we had 1/4 tank of gas. The tank was empty. We ended up stranded on the highway in 80 degree weather with two young children in the car till aaa was able to bring us gas. We got to the gas station and filled up and the tank literally took over 20 gallons, which means it was completely empty even though the gas gauge said we still had 1/4 tank. In addition, only a few weeks before, we had just replaced the gas gauge with a brand new, Nissan gas gauge. Nissan has already issued a recall on 2009 quests for this problem, but apparently my Quest's VIN is not among those recalled, so they won't fix the problem without my paying a Nissan dealer for a diagnosis and then writing a claim. I think this is ridiculous and they need to expand the recall to all 2009 Nissan quests. I should not be charged for a fix that is clearly specific to this Nissan vehicle's problem.
We received a letter on jan 9, 2015 from Nissan north America advising that there was a potential problem with the fuel gauge and that we must maintain at least a half tank of gas until they repaired the problem. They advised they would contact us within a few months to do so. They have not contacted us in any way. As far as we know we must continue to maintain the gas level. When we called they said there would not be sending a letter rescinding the first letter's requirements and that only those car owners needing repair would receive a followup letter. Think about that for a minute. If they advise you by letter that you must take action to avoid a problem, then they must advise you that such no longer needs to be done also by letter. Please require them to do so to all the car owners who think they have a fuel gauge problem.
I backed out of driveway towards the south to head north on public way. Vehicle immediately started accelerating backwards (south) without assistance, quickly getting out of control. No amount of pressure on my part would make the brakes work and there was no control of the steering. The vehicle was no longer under my control and crashed backwards into a large tree which held it from crashing farther, and a small tree on the side which held it from rolling down into a brook. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request and I would prefer that it be inspected. No vehicles or pedestrians were in the street when the vehicle lost all control without human assistance. The passenger is front passenger seat was taken to ER and has since been seeing a doctor. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or other service center. …
The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Quest. The contact stated that the vehicle ran out of gasoline with the fuel gauge indicating that there was a quarter tank to a half tank of gasoline inside the fuel tank. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where the contact was informed that the vehicle was under an unstated recall for the fuel leveling unit; however, the part for the repair was on a national backorder. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed that the part was not only on backorder, but that the part for the repair was discontinued. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
