What owners report

Passenger side brake light assembly failed June 2025. I found it our at an oil change inspection. Ford discontinued manufacturing this LED brake light assembly, so it is difficult to replace this safety critical part. The part number is 9N7Z 13404 A.

2011 Milan · Jun 2025

Driver's side brake light stays illuminated all the time while vehicle is on and while driving, instead of only turning on when brake is pressed down. In November I noticed the driver's side brake light begin to flicker while parked. Since it is a malfunction with the LED lights, the entire brake light housing would have to be replaced, a roughly $410 repair. For as often as I have seen other 2011 Mercury Milan owners complain about this, you would think this would have been recalled already. I have been told the brake light constantly staying on is distracting and very bright to other drivers behind me.

My head lights are NOT sufficient. It does not have the option for 2 bulbs. I have changed out the bulbs 3 times while owning this vehicle and from the first night I drove it after owning it, I noticed the lights where very off. I drive around town and on dark roads where there is NO Road LIGHTS at night with my head lights on Bright and I DO NOT get brighted back. I have hit an animal due to the lights not being bright. I fear driving the car at night or where it's to dark because the light assembly is not proper. No warning lights.

Tail and brake light for the second time has failed. A safety function of this nature should not be this difficult to fix and replace. The item should be available and affordable. You literally have to take out a lone to get it fixed. So now I can't go to work or anything else with this vehicle. This is supposed to be an affordable car. So the only way for me right now to fix is park it. I hear one person say " well it's not like a wheel falling off " I said tell that to the person behind me. With all these distractions now, between phones and other fancy options on cars. I'm a truck driver so I know how important these warning devices are. It is time to set a new standard in how safety items get replaced availability and cost should never be an issue.!!!!!!!!! With out question.

In April of 2012 the rear drivers side tail lights blew out. This was right after my lease expired and I had purchased the vehicle. I also bought the extended warranty. Since my lease was up, this was not covered, and much to my surprise, it was not covered under the extended warranty. My vehicle only had 30,000 miles. I wrote several letters and lodged complaints with my dealership and with Ford. Finally in May of 2012, they decided to fix it, free of charge. Yesterday, May 12th, 2015, the rear drivers turn signal blew out. These repairs are outrageously priced, as they are LED. They should last for 10 to 20 yrs, but now I have 2 rear drivers side lighting systems that have failed within 3 yrs. My vehicle currently has 60,000 miles on it. Completely unacceptable and very dangerous. I plan on contacting my dealership and Ford to see if there is anything that can be done.

The air bags have been fixed. Sometimes when I apply my brakes they are soft and I have to apply more pressure to stop. When this happens I drive really slow because I don't know if I'm going to be able to stop in time. I have not kept track of how many time this has happened. At least 5 times in the last 6 months. Twice I went to my mechanic and they bled the brake line to get it fixed. Winter is here and I hope this does not cause a wreck because you expect us to wait until you get the parts. I have no other transportation and need my car.
