Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 2024 Jeep Wrangler owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).

The contact owned a 2024 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 MPH, black smoke was coming from the exhaust, and the husband smelled an abnormal burning odor entering the cabin of the vehicle. The contact pulled over to the shoulder of the road, and a fire started coming from under the hood. The contact stated that while her husband was attempting to unlatch the hood, after unlatching the front driver's and passenger's side hood latches and attempting to unlatch the 3rd hood latch, the fire rose and burned both hands. The local Fire Department arrived on the scene to extinguish the fire. The source of the fire was not yet determined. A Police report was not filed. …

We've experienced multiple ongoing issues with this vehicle, and the dealership's only suggestion so far has been to file a lemon law claim. Last month, the car began jerking excessively while driving typically at speeds between 35-45 mph. The best way to describe it is that it feels as though all the wheels lock up at once, causing a loud tire-screeching noise. It was a frightening experience. The dealership claimed to have resolved the issue with a "software update." However, just last night, my wife was stranded on the highway when the car suddenly started shutting down mid-drive, similar to what happens when a vehicle runs out of gas. The maximum speed she could reach was about 20 mph, and the check engine light came on. She switched from hybrid mode to eSave (gas-only mode), which allowed her to get home safely. This morning, she tested it again. …

On October 11, 2025, in the morning, shortly after installing a software update recommended by Jeep via the vehicle's infotainment screen panel, I experienced a sudden and complete loss of vehicle power while driving on the road at approximately 45 mph. This failure prevented me from controlling the vehicle, as the steering wheel locked up, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and into a ditch. I was able to restart the vehicle, and it initially appeared to operate normally. However, the same issue recurred within 60 seconds of restarting the engine, with another sudden loss of power and steering control. This defect nearly resulted in a serious collision, posing a significant risk of bodily injury to myself and other motorists on the road. No injuries occurred, but the incident could have been catastrophic at highway speeds. …

On 10/10/25, I lost drive power after the OTA Uconnect update. On my drive, I abruptly had absolutely no acceleration, the gear indicator on the dash started flashing, the power mode indicator disappeared, an alert said shift into park and press the brake + start button, and the check engine light and red wrench lights came on. I was still able to steer and brake with power steering and brakes for maybe 30 seconds before those went out too. This happened in the middle on an intersection which was terrifying. After putting it into park and pressing the brake and start button it started back up and I could drive it normally for a little bit, but it happened two more times on my 1.5 mi drive home. I called AAA to tow it to the dealership (Herb Chambers Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM FIAT of Millbury, 2 Latti Farm Road). …

In October, my son was driving our Jeep Wrangler 4xe when the vehicle suddenly lost power steering, acceleration, and braking while multiple warning lights were flashing on the dashboard. The vehicle became very difficult to control and created a serious safety concern. We have a video showing all of the warning lights flashing during this incident (it is not allowing me to upload a video below as the file is too large) The vehicle also currently has recalls and service campaigns, including Recall 78C related to a potential engine defect and HBMHCP related to the hybrid battery system. These issues make us feel the vehicle is unsafe and not reliable to drive. The recalls and issues have also affected our ability to use the vehicle as intended and have reduced the value of the vehicle. …

2024 Jeep 4XE Wrangler Rubicon, 3 recalls, 1st EV battery, potential fire hazard, 2nd Sand in the engine, potential fire hazard, 3rd wiring harness for steering unit, potential fire hazard, all of them can cause a fire with it being parked and not even plugged in for charging. FCA sent out the recall notices, and later said they had remedies, the problem is the remedies aren't remedies at all. I was at my dealership 2 days ago talking to my service writer, and he told me that another customer with the same vehicle passed the so called remedy for sand in the engine, a few days later his engine light came on, and now the dealership is replacing his engine, with that being said doesn't that mean that even with a passed so called remedy, it could still be a fire hazard. …

I have not had any incident with this vehicle as of yet, but I bought it brand new a few months ago from Westgate motors in Raleigh, North Carolina. It's a brand new jeep. It only had 12 miles when we got it from the start it has bad steering and it steers all over the road while you're driving it you can be driving it all of a sudden it'll just start to switch lanes or something or getting into another lane and then it feels as if the back end starts to sway like it was hit with a very bad wind. The cruise control varies up and down at times without even touching it. Coming down a hill once it moved over into her on coming lane. I had it back at the dealer several times and was told this is normal for jeeps due to their new design since 2018. I called jeep corp and they told me to call the dealer nothing they could or would do to help me. …

My Jeep has had a recall since December 2025. I initially went to Burgaw, NC Dealership where I Leased my Jeep, with no luck. I made appointment They did not have the part. I was told they would call when it is available. I checked in every month , no part. I called the recall line in the summer 2026 and they made me an appointment at National Dodge in Jacksonville, NCthe first week of August. When I arrived for my scheduled appointment I was told they could not accommodate my appointment because it takes 5 hours. Holdridge Greene made another appointment for me for the following week on [redacted]. He also said he would be able to put me in a car so I wouldn't miss another entire day of work. I showed up and was told they could not help me that day because there were no cars, but they would call and reschedule as soon as possible. It is now [redacted] and no contact has been made. …

This is my 5th Jeep over many years. I have the Wrangler Jeep 4 Xe 2024 model that is pristine kept. There have been over 5 recalls of different matters and there is still a recall outstanding from OCTOBER of 2025. Although this car is marketed for rough terrain (which I do not do), it has been in the shop for many times- some with Safety Recalls to include Risk of Fire, Loss of Power and explosion. Some advising me NOT to charge the vehicle near a structure. The brand has not stood behind their brand and advised me to rent a car (at my expense until they reimburse me). The lease/purchase is for a SAFE, RELIABLE source of transportation yet the manufacture does not stand behind their product and is leaving it to the inconvenience of me to rectify their shortfalls. …

After applying an OTA (over the air) update from Jeep on 10/11/25 at approximately 1pm EST, the vehicle would drive for about 100 yards and then lose all power. Check engine light came on and a message saying to put in park. This happened when I pulled out of a parking lot and was lucky enough to have enough momentum to get to the side of the road. Restarted the Jeep, drove another 100 yards in the shoulder and it happened again. Was able to get into a parking lot and had to get the Jeep towed to the dealership. I am waiting to hear from the dealership as to the resolution. As of this writing (10/12/25 @ 5:30 pm EST, I have seen 100's of posts regarding the same issue from other Jeep owners and I have yet to see a formal notice from the manufacturer acknowledging the issue with an action plan. …
