Owner reports
Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 2007 Honda Odyssey owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).
The contact owns a 2007 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving 45-65 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and waited for two hours. The contact then continued driving 20-25 MPH. The contact stated that the VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist) and TPMS warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to Auto Zone, where it was diagnosed with battery voltage, brake sensor, ECM and PCM failures. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 238,133.
The contact owns a 2007 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, there was a burning chemical odor coming from the engine compartment. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the brake fluid reservoir was empty. The brake fluid reservoir was refilled but later the contact discovered that the brake fluid reservoir was empty again; however, there was no visible signs of a brake fluid leak. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were not contacted. The failure mileage was 205,000.
I took this car for a test drive. The dealer said they had repaired a number of issues such as front end work, power steering hoses, and power steering fluid. They said it had passed a safety inspection. The dealer handed me a list of all the issues with the vehicle which they chose not to repair, which include: 1) vehicle driver door lock/unlock doesn't work 2) Driver sliding door doesn't work 3) beeping when turning on power sliding doors (Doesn't beep if you have it off), tpms light is on (needs sensors maybe? dont know), 4) rear wiper inop Those are direct quotes -- however, on the test drive I found several other issues which were alarming. 1) A bad wheel bearing in the right rear wheel was extremely loud, sounding like an airplane taking off on the highway, this was not mentioned in any way before test driving. …
When I stop at the red light with my brake pressed, all in a sudden the brake drop lower and the vehicle move forward. When I look up the safety recalls on my type of vehicle, there is a brake master cylinder safety recall in 2010. However, when I look up my VIN, my vehicle is not on that list. Based on the problem, it looks like my batch of Odyssey also has this safety recall issue. Probably Honda hide it to minimize the recall repair cost. I am the first owner and the brake master cylinder has never been replaced and no recall notice is being sent to me. Please help to investigate it. I will pay out of pocket to fix this issue first because I almost died with this hidden uninformed safety issue until the problem comes up now.
When traveling at low speed (5-10 MPH) and depressing the brake pedal, the car suddenly accelerated. This happened on two separate occasions. Feb 1, 2018 and feb 14, 2018. The problem caused minor accidents in both cases. On feb 1, the car was in a parking lot, pulling into a parking space, depressed the brake pedal, and the car accelerated and ran over a handicapped parking sign. On feb 14, in rush hour traffic on the highway, traveling approximately 10 MPH, depressed the brake, and the car accelerated into a tractor-trailer causing extensive damage to the Odyssey, but not to the tractor trailer. The Honda dealership maintains that there is nothing wrong with the car, no problem with the brakes or accelerator. As the owner, I am convinced there is a problem and the car is not safe to drive, and in fact we have gotten rid of the car and bought a new one because of this problem. …
I was driving my 2007 Honda Odyssey. As I was coming to a stop, I became involved in an accident. Over the recent weeks I thought it was taking longer to stop my van, but had my van in for service the week before. I was assure that everything was fine and all fluid levels were correct. ***note: on my first service visit the service adviser told me that I should not be concerned about brake fluid levels that the van would notify me when it was time to replace the breaks and that the van was designed to do so. The police were called to the scene of the accident. I could not explain the accident and the officer coaxed me in to saying that I had been distracted. I was in shock. My son was in the car with me and I could not think much of anything else other than whether he was safe. I believe I had come to a complete stop then hit the vehicle in front of me. My airbags did not deploy. …
January 5th, 2009 I was involved in an accident that I believe was directly linked to the brake issue with my 2007 Honda Odyssey. I have previously reported the "soft and mushy" brakes to this site and to the local Honda dealer multiple times. On the evening of the accident, I should have had plenty of time to stop after the panic stop of a car in front of me, due to another turning driver. However, the brakes went to the floor and did not stop the van in time. This caused an accident where I rear-ended the driver in front of me causing major damage to her car and mine with my airbag deploying. The issue with the brakes has been one that I have complained about to multiple Honda dealers and they have ignored, always saying that they were within normal limits. I have driven vans for 17 years and have never had the braking problems with any others. …
1. Driver in stop and go traffic applied brakes to stop vehicle, however, vehicle did not stop in time and resulted in a rear-end collision. This occurred on 11/30/2009. 2. Vehicle owner reported that when the brake pedal is depressed, there is a lack of response. Braking time and distance became significantly longer than normal. This problem was first observed by the vehicle owner on 11/27/2009, however, the driver was able to stop in time on that date, and the vehicle then functioned normally until the collision that occurred on 11/30/2009. 3. Immediately after the accident on 11/30/2009, the vehicle owner reported that the vehicle brakes had failed to the auto insurance carrier, and took the vehicle to the dealership for a diagnosis. …
I was driving Odyssey along with my kids on a single lane city road at the speed of ~35 miles/hour. I rear ended the car, which resulted in 3 car collision. I got distracted from the road for 2-3 sec, when I got attention back on the I saw a car stopped for left turn (no left turnout). I pushed my brakes as hard as I could, but couldn't stop my vehicle, resulted in rear ending the vehicle, which pushed him, and caused a hit to another vehicle in front of him. I thought it was my failure, but when I saw recalls related to the soft brake issues, it made me rethink, that incident has soft brakes issues has to do a lot. In past, I talked to the dealer about the softness of the brakes, they told me that vans are bigger and heavier, so it takes time to stop them' incident caused significant damage to my van.. My old brakes are still intact, and I can still feel the softness.. …
