What owners report

When I try to brake at a stop light, my car tries to quit. When I slow behind another vehicle, my vehicle lunges upon continuing again. I have had the timing checked, but that is not my problem. I can smell gasoline when my vehicle acts up. I fear for my life and the life of my 12 year old son. I am a single parent working for $ 9.00 an hour. I need my car to get to work, but I'm afraid of it, and I just don't have the extra money to have it checked and repaired! I thought perhaps it might have a recall on it, because so many others do! Car is continuing to stall. Dealer cannot find what is causing. Car stalled while making a left turn and was consequently hit by another car from behind. No major damage done, as we were only traveling about 5 MPH. Car sputters a lot, stalls a lot, and is not safe for me and my 3 small children to drive. Tried to trade it in because I do not feel safe anymore after the wreck, but will cause me a huge financial loss to do this. Please look into this problem. This is complaint number 2 with NHTSA. I see the pacificas were just recalled because of this exact same problem... When will you look into the concords?

2003 Chrysler Concorde engine 2.7 with 74000 miles on the odometer. The engine coolant got mixed with the oil, not even the 100K miles range and now I end up with a $9,000 paperweight! Its not fair that the "poor" design and the misleading information on the owners manual ("the owners manual says that you can go 7,500 miles before your next oil change") has such a costly result, $5,000 for the engine replace, and Chrysler is not doing anything about the problem, they're just blaming the consumer saying we didn't take care of our cars! My car has had the oil changed at 3000 miles every time, that's 4500 miles more often than the recommended "safe" distance mentioned on the owners manual! C'mon people this is wrong and you know it place a recall for this engine and keep the reputation you guys work for too long to acquire! Love chryslers but this is a nightmare!

Events leading to failure: ordinary driving, including high speed acceleration, low speed acceleration, low speed deceleration, stopped, idling in gear. 5 occurrences in 2000 miles. Engine fails completely, followed by immediate restart capability. Normal operation for many more miles. Car's computer fault code report is consistent with description contained in Chrysler recall below. Chrysler recall (notification code j18) appeared to address the issue, but was rescinded. Was told by dealer service dept. That Chrysler is working on the problem, no solution yet (2 weeks after receipt of the recall notice.) dealer recommended the car not be driven. Present situation: must either drive an unsafe car or be without transportation. Date entered for this report was first occurence. 4 additional events continued through 2009. Tw*

Bought the car used from copper city Dodge in rome ny. Check engine light was on when test driven. Were reassured it would be good when we took delivery. After about two weeks light was back. Dealer said it was bad gas cap and fixed. About two weeks or so it was back on. Dealer said it needed to be reset, fixed. About two weeks it was back. Dealer said it was EVAP canister, rollover valve and an emissions valve, claimed fixed, charged us about $400. About two weeks or so it was back again. Dealer said it was a bad fuel pump would be about $700. Took car to usual family mechanic who had to replace everything dealer claimed to have replaced. Our mechanic said it all tested bad. After a month or so light was back on. Car runs OK but check engine light won't go away. This has been an ongoing problem since we've owned the car. …

I was driving my Concorde home from work a week before christmas and as I turned on the ramp to get off the highway at the bottom of the ramp my car just quit running, no sign of a problem at all with it being such a large vehicle it is very hard to control the steering. I was really thankful that it did not happen on the main highway because I was in the middle lane most of the way home and could have been rear ended and seriously hurt. I would like to know what the customers can do to get reimbursed fully or partially for the repairs since they know that they have a big problem with the engines. I had to have my engine replaced and so I paid for an engine & labor. Also this past summer mine and a friend of mines air conditioner went out, another problem that they have swept under the rug. …

Engine light repeatedly comes on. Have taken it to the dealer at least six times and was told that the intake manifold sensor was defective. The dealer contacted Chrysler, and was told to replace the sensor again and rewire the portion of wiring on the engine harness. This worked for two days and the engine light came back on again. I was told by the dealer to bring it back in and they would contact chrsler again. On the fourth attempt to fix the problem Chrysler said to replace the power control module. The dealer installed the module and the car seamed to be fixed. Unfortunatly the problem reappeared two weeks later. I have since given up on Chrysler fixing the problem and my engine lite continues to go off and on at least 5 days a week. …

I am the unfortunate owner of a 2001 Chrysler Concorde with a burned out 2.7 liter engine, the same one you are investigating on this web site. I was driving to work on the morning of 7/25/05 on the northbound i90 expressway on grand island, n.y. Traveling at approx. 60 MPH when the engine temperature indicated an engine overheating condition and began to shut down. I was fortunate to have good driving skills as this catastrophic engine failure shut down all power accessories on the vehicle. I had no power steering or power brakes at this point and was fortunate to be at the whitehaven rd. Exit. With much difficulty I was able to shift the car into neutral and coast onto the exit ramp and parked the Concorde on the shoulder of the road. Attempts to restart produced a grating metal on metal sound and I new the engine was shot. …
