Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 2019 Chevrolet Traverse owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to Auto Zone, who determined that the canister purge valve needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.
On June 12, 2022, after stopping for gas, my car did not want to start back up. I put my foot on the brake and pushed the start/stop button, but the engine struggled to come on. It did a similar thing a week before, but on that time when I pushed the button to start the car, all of my lights came on and my radio, but my air conditioner delayed in coming on. When I put the car in drive to go, nothing happened and I realized the engine never started. I pushed the start/stop button again and everything shut off and then back on and I was able to drive. For almost a year now, I have had issues with the auto stop feature when I'm at a stop light/sign. When I try to take off again, it delays on letting me move. This is also when my car will jerk or jolt as I start to drive. I took it to the dealership to look at the problem and was told there may be something with the fuel system. …
I took my truck to the dealer back in 2022 for the specific reasons that the truck is being recalled now but my vehicle doesn't qualify for the recalls. My vehicle has been having the same issues as the 2019 Chevy traverse recalls and I just saw that my truck is also leaking transmission oil which is linked to the 2019 recall but my truck doesn't qualify. It started smelling like it was burning during the freeway drive today and when I got home, I noticed the oil leak I drive around 15 to 20 miles a day driving six children in my truck for safety and my truck is no longer safe to drive. I want to know why when I took my car in 2022 for the specific issues. …
On [redacted], my 2019 Chevrolet Traverse (VIN [redacted] ) experienced a complete transmission failure. The vehicle began to hesitate, jerk during acceleration, and then completely lost the ability to shift or drive. It had to be towed, and the dealership confirmed that the transmission must be replaced. This is extremely concerning because GM previously issued Recall 20V668000 involving missing bolts in the start-stop accumulator of the transmission, which can cause fluid leaks and loss of propulsion-a potential safety hazard. Although my VIN does not show this recall as active, the symptoms and failure seem directly related to this known defect. I am requesting NHTSA investigate whether this recall should be expanded or reopened to include more affected vehicles. …
I have been experiencing an intermittent issue where the vehicle displays a "Shift to Park" message, even though the gear shift lever is clearly in the Park position. When this happens, the vehicle will not fully shut off, and I have to repeatedly move the shifter back and forth or restart the vehicle to clear the message. This issue began around January 2024, and it has become more frequent over time. I understand that this is a known defect in GM vehicles, and that GM issued Technical Service Bulletin #19-NA-206 to address it. According to the TSB and owner reports, this problem is caused by a faulty park switch or microswitch inside the shifter assembly, and the solution involves installing a jumper harness and/or replacing the shift control assembly. …
2019 Chevrolet Traverse having "shift to park" error when shifted into park and it will not turn off. I am not able to shut down my vehicle occurs, which is at random but with more frequency lately. I often have to turn car on, put into reverse and repeat the process, or jiggle the gear shifter to get it to turn off. I have read this is a common issue and GM is being sued in a class action lawsuit because of it. My dealership isn't acknowledging it and wants me to pay to have it completely replaced. I have also read it gets worse in most cases and in some cases causes the vehicle to shift into gear accidentally or drains the battery completely because it thinks the car is in drive and stays on. Possibly related, the vehicle is starting to "buck" when in slow acceleration/shifting automatic gears.
I keep having emission problems. The first time I took it to the dealership they fixed then it messed up again had that fixed about three months later check engine light was on again same thing had it fixed for the third time check engine light went off and of course came back home had to fix it again it's off for now. I'm just waiting for it to pop back on. Second problem that I've been having is the fuel pressure sensor changed it light went off now it's back on. They say change the fuel pump just to see. Did that check engine light back on? When is the check engine light gonna go off another problem that I've been having shift to park that pops up every so often at this point, I do not recommend Chevy traverses too many problems and nobody fixing them
One year ago the check engine light came on. Diagnosis stated EVAP system leak. Replaced a bad purge valve.now almost a year later the engine light comes back on car also started struggling shifting and shift to park would come on when car was already in park. Diagnosis states a large leak in EVAP system, smoke test determined leak was coming from the fuel canister. Canister was replaced and within two trips engine light came back on and car continues to struggle shifting as well as having a rough idle. Another diagnostic test reported bad fuel sensor. 2019 traverse seems to have a lot of EVAP system issues and have been told as well as read that this is a trending issue with this vehicle. With each diagnosis report it states it would fail fuel omission.
3 major issues-1. The driver side seatbelt does not latch any more. This started happening 11/1/2022. 2. The "Shift to Park" message continues to appear while the car is in park. The vehicle at times will not shut off due to the message even thought it's actually in park. This has been happening for over a year without a fix and now we're over our 3 year warranty. 3. The car has 45 miles on it before it needed to refuel, however, it stalled and completed shut off in the middle of traffic causing a jam behind us! We had one of our toddlers in the car too which could have ended much worse. The car was towed to Chevy ($160 bill for us), and Chevy said it stalled and turned off because the fuel was empty even though it the dashboard said 45 miles on it.
On our 2019 Chevy Traverse, the check engine light came on and off several times over the last couple of weeks. After filling up with gas, it would often take 4 to 5 times to get the engine to start as it would keep stalling out after starting. Additionally, on two separate occasions the car stalled out unexpectedly - once while turning onto a road out of a parking lot that almost caused us to get hit, and a second time while in a round-a-bout. The car was checked by a Chevy dealer and it was found that there was a bad purge valve creating this issue. This had previously been recalled on earlier model year Traverses, but not for 2019. It appears this is still an issue for this model year and should be addressed.
