2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Safety Issue Summary: I am filing a complaint regarding critical safety defects with my vehicle. The truck displayed warning messages for traction control service and brake system failure on the instrument panel while parked in my driveway, prior to the vehicle becoming inoperable, I experienced dangerous driving conditions including swerving similar to hydroplaning on two separate occasions. Details: The vehicle was picked up on a flatbed on May 11th, 2026 because it would not start or run. When I drove it before this incident, I experienced the vehicle swerving dangerously similar to hydroplaning on two different occasions 5/1/26 and 5/9/26. Upon inspection, warning messages appeared on the dashboard indicating traction control system service and brake system failure. These are critical safety systems. …
Vehicle has less then 700 miles. Upon driving vehicle, the dashboard started losing information, no speedometer. When I tried to pull the truck over to the side of the road, the power steering was lost. It was nearly impossible to turn the wheel, then the engine stopped. I was unable to turn on blinkers or hazard warning lights. When I put the vehicle in park to try a restart the engine would not turn over. The transmission was locked in Park and unable to shift to neutral to try to push vehicle to safe spot. At this point I was blocking the road. Called for roadside assistance, two hours later vehicle was towed to Chevrolet dealership, were it is being assessed.
Prior to this incident, I had been having issues with my fuel management system give a "reduced acceleration" warning (codes P0087, P228B) in weather below 28-30F. It was in the shop 3 times prior: first time was "bad fuel", second had my fuel rail and fuel filter replaced, and third time I had my high pressure fuel pump replaced (also had a rear crank seal leak). While approaching a stop sign, my vehicle gave me a check engine light with a "Reduced Acceleration" warning followed by several other warning messages and then ultimately lost power and shut off give me no ability to steer or brake my vehicle. Luckily, my vehicle came to stop and no crash or injuries occurred. If this had been at higher speeds the outcome could have been fatal to myself or another driver/passenger on the road. This incident also gave me a P0087, P12A6, P228A, and P228B error codes. …
My 2025 Chevy Silverado ZR2 has experienced the same dangerous system failure five times. While driving, every warning light on the dash activates, I lose power steering, and the vehicle completely shuts down and won't restart. This creates an extreme safety risk - the first failure happened on a local road, but most recently, it occurred while my family was driving out of state during a holiday. The truck has now been out of service for over 50 cumulative days across these repeated incidents. GM has accepted a Lemon Law claim but has not resolved it, leaving me without a vehicle and no clear path forward. These systemic failures present serious risks to me, my family, and other drivers. The latest failure occurred in July 2025, and the vehicle remains at Bill Cramer Chevrolet in Panama City Beach, FL with no resolution. …
I applied brake and pedal went straight to floor without any stopping. I had to steer into a ditch to avoid a collision resulting in more damage to steering system, frame, windshield and body. This was complete brake system failure and yes is available for inspection. I was in a very rural area at time and was able to avoid a collision however, if I had been in city or on highway it could have easily resulted in injury or fatalities. The problem is currently under federal investigation and has been widely reported as a serious problem which may soon result in widespread recall. The vehicle has not been inspected yet by dealership or anywhere else as it just happened 18 hours ago. There were no warning lights or chimes before the incident when pedal went to the floor. …
