On October 29, 2022, I auto-started my 2014 Silverado on a chilly morning. I got in the vehicle approximately 5 minutes later and turned on the ignition. As soon as I turned on the ignition I heard what sounded like a gunshot and I smelled electrical burning. I then realized that the passenger side of my back sliding window had shattered. The rear defroster also smelled like an electrical fire. Upon doing research I found that this is a known issue in the 2014-2019 Silverado's which I was never notified about. I purchased the vehicle used in March of 2021 from Basil Chevrolet in Fredonia, NY. There is currently a full recall in Canada because of the dangerous issue but not in the United States. I reached out to the dealership and Chevrolet but they refuse to do anything about it. I have yet to have the back window replaced and it is taped up but available for examination.
I remote started my truck and it started smoking from the rear of the crew cab, it went out but left brown snow around it but about a mile down the road the right rear glass exploded and luckily my oldest daughter is forward facing in her child seat and the glass went over or behind her chair. If my youngest was there she would have certainly taken glass to the face and been too young to not put it in her mouth if it didn't immediately hurt her. The vehicle was stationary, the remote start was used and I believe my vehicles rear defrosters were engaged during the remote start.the smoke started immediately and I shut it off to get it to go away and removed them stained snow from the area. The glass exploded about a mile down the road with no other warning sign. …
On June 3, 2018 upon cranking the truck, the A/C began blowing extremely hot air to the point it left a red mark across my hand after feeling for the vent waiting for the temperature to cool down. It was 90 degrees outside and raining so windows couldn't be rolled down. Windshield remained foggy due to humidity within the truck and I had to pull over frequently when driving in order to wipe the windshield to be able to see. Two children in the backseat of the truck, one in a rear facing car seat were beyond over heated and well on their way to heat exhaustion by the time we reached the dealership due to temperatures reaching above 95 within the cab. Truck was seen at dealership and was advised due to vibration from driving, the A/C discharge hose was cracked allowing the heat from the engine to be blown directly into the cab of the truck. …
I am the 2nd owner and have only owned it for 10 months. I have frequently heard cracking/popping noises while driving, but no other traffic near, and no damage to windshield. This morning, I got in the truck and noticed a very large crack in the windshield. As I haven't ever hit a rock in this truck, I was very curious. Upon closer inspection, there is zero evidence of any external factors that would have caused such a large and spontaneous crack to appear while I was in bed sleeping last night. To be fair, I haven't reported it to a dealer yet since I just found the crack this morning, but that will be my next step, although I'm highly pessimistic that they will be willing to do anything about (what appears in my opinion to be) a defective windshield. …
Today, at 1:00 pm , a sunny day @ 80 degrees, I entered the truck and shut the door. As I did so, the rear door drivers side window shattered after bulging outward as witnessed by my neighbor. The minute I shut the door the window bulged outward and shattered! I called the dealer and asked if it was covered, as it only had a thousand miles on it and they haven't called back so I guess not. Cost of a new window is 82 bucks on ebay! All the warranties I bought with the car do not cover the side or back windows. I wonder if they should cover this issue, but I highly suggest all new truck owners of Chevy silverados keep the window open a crack after buying a visor. Note: I just got a call back from the dealer and they want the window peeves for an investigation. I swept them up and put them in the trash! Oops! I will bring them up anyway and take it from there.
