I went to get the Takata recall done. I made an appointment at the dealer, and I showed up. After spending several hours of my day, the dealer told me the airbag was on back order and they even asked me if I actually want to get it done. The dealer informed me my dash would be broken after they finished the job. I told them the airbag is dangerous and it needed to get done. They told me they would order it and call me when it arrived and that has never happened. I called the NHTSA hot line and there was no service. The fact is this should have been recalled on November 15, 2015, but the NHTSA let GM postpone the recall endangering the public for over 7 years. The fact is the NHTSA covers for GM like they did with the ignition switch, the GMT800 Brake lines and a bunch of other situations. The NHTSA reports are also full of lies and misinformation. …
There has been NO incident to report, yet I am forced to continue driving a vehicle with a recall which cannot be remedied. I have been made aware that this is an imminent danger to my safety should there be an activation of the airbag component. I purchased the vehicle used and was assured that the remedy was available. This is a risk to my safety and I cannot afford to let this vehicle sit idle while paying for another vehicle for daily use. Please advise. David J. Hetherington

NHTSA investigations
Desiccated Air Bag Inflator Rupture
From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited.
