My 2025 Toyota RAV4 (39,919 miles) has a permanent "Check Engine" light. On March 18, 2026, diagnostic codes P24517F and P214502a were found, indicating a failure in the switching valve and fuel tank pressure sensor. Toyota USA and the dealer are refusing to honor the 60,000-mile Powertrain Warranty and Federal Emissions Warranty. I am reporting this as a safety defect because the vehicle may lose power or stall on the highway, creating an immediate crash risk. The manufacturer's refusal to repair a known emission/fuel defect in a new 2025 model has left me with an unsafe vehicle for over 15days.
SUPPLEMENTAL TO COMPLAINT ID: 11728745. My 2025 RAV4 failed at 39,919 miles. Toyota Corporate is acting in bad faith to deny the 60,000-mile Powertrain Warranty. The Case Manager repeatedly calls only after 6:30 PM when the dealership is closed to avoid resolution. Furthermore, the representative is now using "legal threats"-directing me to their legal department-as a tactic to stop me from pursuing this valid warranty claim. This is a safety hazard and a violation of federal warranty law.
The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid. The contact stated that while attempting to park the vehicle in a parking space, the vehicle accelerated without warning. The vehicle crashed into a tree while the contact's foot was firmly depressed on the brake pedal. The air bags did not deploy upon impact. The contact did not suffer any injuries and did not seek medical attention. A police report was not filed. The contact stated that two days prior to the failure, the "Hybrid System Fail" warning message appeared on the instrument panel. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for a repair and an inspection. The contact was informed that the vehicle's black box did not record a vehicle failure during the accident. The body of the vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 4,600.
I am submitting this complaint to document an unresolved vehicle safety concern and loss of confidence in safe operation. My vehicle experienced serious safety-related malfunctions and warnings, and despite service visits, I was not provided written confirmation that the vehicle was safe to operate. After repairs were reportedly completed, I repeatedly requested written safety verification, which was not provided. Due to the unresolved safety concerns and lack of written safety assurance, I did not feel it was safe to resume driving the vehicle. A loaner vehicle was provided while the safety issues were being addressed. The loaner was later recovered before my safety concerns were resolved and without advance notice, leaving me without a vehicle that I could confirm was safe to operate. …
A strong fuel odor was evident in the cabin, and also under the hood after operation. Vehicle use was low, approx. 6K miles from new. My wife reported this to the dealer service department. They said nothing was wrong with the vehicle. Approx. 2K miles later, I reported the same problem to the dealer. Service rep said vehicle was unsafe to drive due to over torqued and leaking fuel line. They repaired it for no charge. No fuel vapors now, but if this is a production quality issue that others have reported, only to be told nothing was wrong, I think a major fuel-combustion safety issue may be overlooked. I am submitting documentation. Also, I am concerned about health effects of sustained fuel vapor exposure over months of driving. My wife rear-ended a stopped vehicle, possibly due to cognitive impairment from fuel vapor exposure. No warning indicators were ever triggered. Thank you.
Sudden surge and acceleration upon parking. I had brakes depressed pulling into a parking space when the vehicle felt like it jumped and quickly accelerated. It veered left missing the parked van in front of me but crashing into the parked Honda Accord two spots over and one in front. It crashed into the back tire and fender area of the passenger side of the Honda pushing it completely out of its spot and sideways. My vehicle kept going even though pushing the brakes to stop. I had to force it into park to stop. The car's air bags deployed but my Toyota's airbags nor crash warning system worked.
The vehicle without warning will lose all power; "Accelerator System Malfunction Output Power Reduced Visit Your Dealer" and "Pre-Collision System Malfunction - Visit Your Dealer" are the warning messages that appeared when power was lost. The "Check Engine" light also illuminated as well as a collision error light appeared. The vehicle has done this twice; the first time, the dealer found a recall which was a software update. However, today the vehicle became unresponsive again with the same error messages as before; we were lucky no vehicle hit us from behind since we were turning towards the frontage road to access the highway. The first time this happened, my wife was entering the ramp towards the expressway when the vehicle lost all power and she had to go to the side. …
On 11/15/23 I went to Byers Toyota Dealership and asked them to check my car due to the gas smell inside of the car when driven and outside of my car when parked for a longer period of time. The smell is coming from the rear. The car also has a very strong gas smell when the tank is open to pump gas. I did not notice any leaks. On the visit on 11/1523, they fixed the leaking evaporator according to your bulletin from May 2023 to alleviate the burning oil smell coming from my car's HVAC heater. They also checked the fuel pump and told me that I have the correct one and it should function as designed. The service advisor told me that the gas smell is exhaust fumes and it is normal for Toyota type of engine. They did not have any explanation for the fuel smell when my car is parked. …
