My daughters (ages 5 and 2) were sitting in the front seat of my van and hit the gear shift and knocked it into gear and the van rolled into my brother-in laws truck almost pinning me between the two vehicles.
While driving our 2003 Plymouth Grand Voyager (with 72000 miles) we heard a loud bang from under the front of the car. Transmission fluid was found under the car. We had the car towed to the dealership and learned the transmission pin had broken. We were informed this is a common problem, more than 30 remanufactured transmissions are on back order. The cost of the reparis is significant and we cannot be guaranteed when the parts wil become available. I called Chrysler/Plymouth to determine if there was a recall and there is not. In their opinion, it is not a significant issue. How do we, as consumers, make this issue known to ensure a recall notice is issued and the proper repairs are made? God forbid this problem occurred on a busy highway!
1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager with 74,000 miles the transmission died completely when the differential pin shot through the top of the trasmission, causing us to have to purchase a new transmission at a cost of approx. $2,500.00. Chrysler dealers are well aware that there is a problem with these vans. They all knew exactly what I was describing and I was told by the service dept. At team goewey Dodge in latham that this is a commom occurence with these vans in particular. All of the other transmission repair shops in the area concurred with this. I contacted chryslers customer service dept. On 1/27/03 and they will not do a thing to resolve the issue. The car died on a day when it was between 10 - 15 degrees and -20 with windchills
Transmission apparantly failing to shift, seems stuck in 2nd as vehicle has no horsepower and will not accelerate over about 25-30mph (can't tell speed), will not shift gears (reverse still works). At the same time the speedometer stopped working and check engine light came on. No other apparant side effects (I.e. A/C still works, belts intact, fuses OK). Occurred while operating with passengers (age 5 and 5-mos. Old) - why would Chrysler corp. Allow such an apparant safety hazard to exist? This vehicle has been well-maintained and has just over 40,000-miles - is this all Chrysler products are good for? Recall?
The power window on the drivers side just became sluggish and finally went down and wouldn't come back up, a bracket was broken, the entire assembly had to be replaced. The transmission would not go into gear during very cold weather and it was not a consistent problem to begin with. When you put the car in drive the engine would rev but it would not move forward. Then finally after warming up a few minutes it would lurch forward and be fine. Finally this past week it began making a grinding noise in reverse and refused to go in reverse. The car was put into drive and the grinding noise continued. Just fyi when I contacted Chrysler corporation about this problem, because I think a car should be able to make it to at least 100,000 miles before you start experiencing major problems, the customer assistance rep told me that I was unrealistic to expect my car to make it 100,000 miles. …
OK I didn't know how else to put this but to say that when raining this van and the funny part is that when driving during weather conditions (I.e. Rain snow) the micro v belt slips off and makes the van hard to drive and May in time if not already cause and accident the first time it happened to us we went though a small puddle of water on an on ramp from one free way to another and the van became unstable and hard to steer we had a 11 and a 2 year old in this van and now it doesn't matter when we drive in the rain it happens I have been told that there is a fix but the kit is over 200 dollars and is next to impossible for people to fix this on fixed incomes to this day we still deal with it but something should be done about it with Chrysler and after doing a search on just google alone I found 1500-5000 different compliance on this one problem.
Takata recall, serpentine belt has shredded at least six times and just came off three times ,tensioner replaced three times, idler pulley twice, when belt shreds wires sever and van stops abruptly, windshield wipers stop abruptly hesitating before resuming, sway bar links need replaced,o2sensors check engine light to come on,cv axles failing replaced right twice, hub assembly and brake calipers miss aligned, engine mounts failed and needed, replaced, airbag and ABS lights on dashboard panel fuse blowing, taillights possible short causing brake light to fail, battery needing to be disconnected. …
I have problems with my wipers going on and right back off since the month I bought this vehicle in 2000 . I cant get it fixed because noone knows why it does it . Just this week I had my fan relay module replaced , only to learn my transmission is now not worknig it stops at 3rd gear only to drop to 1 gear . While trying to get that fixxed they told me my water pump is leaking (which is OK and expected of most vehicles , ) I have had to have my dash light computer reset because all my ac dfrost and wiper lights were blinking continuously. I dont know what to do this is only a 97 model and I havent even made my final payment but now I have all these expensive repairs. I have had I tick in my motor that rattles on acceleratin forever and change my oil every 3 to 4000 miles like I should . …
