Dashboard is failing extensively due to an unknown manufacturing defect. Areas of failure include up to and around the portion which says "air bag" which is creating a significant safety concern. Plastic fragments are loose on cracked areas of dash. This presents a possible high-speed projectile hazard if air bag(s) are deployed and catch on loose/cracked areas during deployment. Vehicle has not been involved in any incidents. Dashboard surrounding airbag cracked while the vehicle was stationary and continues to develop additional cracks as time goes on. Finally, dashboard is vibrating while driving at highway speeds causing additional cracks and fragments of plastic to come loose. …

While driving on the highway my wife and I heard a pop and shorty after that some rattling. We looked and found that the dashboard had cracked above the instrument cluster. The dash has since cracked in the middle of the dash and right at the corner of the passenger airbag. We are concerned that it would seriously hurt a passenger if th airbag was deployed. There are alot of complaints about this defect and I would appreciate if GM would stand behind their vehicles. The service writer at the dealership told me if it was his he would just pit a dash cover on it. That is not acceptable and I dont drive my vehicles like that. I have bought about 25 GM's in my life so I have been loyal even thru the bad times. GM should pay to fix this.

At 80,000 miles I discovered that my dash is cracked on the passenger side. I have also discovered that this is a very well known and common problem with GM vehicles and that it is potentially dangerous to passengers if the crack (that is sharp plastic) is to cut or rupture the airbag in the case of an accident. My vehicle has always been garage kept and never kept outside. This is a huge GM problem and there are thousands that need this fixed. There are even facebook groups with thousands upon thousands of people that have had the same problem across multiple vehicles. This crack literally happened out of no where.

While driving, I started hearing strange rattling noises from the dashboard. We I inspected the dash board, I noticed it was cracked by the upper left corner of the passenger side airbag on both sides. I'm concerned for my family's safety. Should the airbag deploy, the cracked dashboard will most likely explode, possibly causing more injury than the airbag was designed to avoid. This appears to be a common complaint from GM customers. While I recently paid to have my dash replaced, I'm hoping GM will issue a recall to address this issue and I will be reimbursed for repairing this defect.

Takata recall ' I see from airbagrecall.com that there is an active recall on my vehicle since May 27, 2016 and I just received a notice via snail mail from tk holdings. I called chuck nash auto group in san marcos, tx at [phone] and mrs. Victoria told me that they have no information from GM on my case. Nothing happened to my vehicle as of now but the airbag icon light on the dashboard is flashing each time I turn the engine on. Can I have a free checkup and eventually a free replacement? Thank you.

Takata inflator recall. Crack in dashboard near passenger side airbag. Service airbag light comes on when vehicle is started. No recall on this vehicle based only on the fact of where it was purchased. Car is in florida approx. 4 months in winter. Even in new york during the rest of the year the sun shining thru the window creates severe heating of dashboard . Vehicle is not garaged. My main concern is whether this car should be driven

The upper dash has two cracks next to the passengers airbag opening. I cannot get these cracks repaired because that May interfere with the operation of the airbag. I am reporting this because I cannot find out if the broken, cracked upper dash could also interfere with the operation of the airbag. I have contacted GMC customer service and they open case # 8-1633101708 but have not offered to fix or replace the upper dash.

While I was driving, I was hearing strange cracking.noises from the dashboard for 2 days. Then I looked at the top of the dashboard, and it was cracked by the upper left corner of the passenger side airbag and behind the steering wheel. Should the airbag be deployed, the cracked dashboard will explode, possibly causing more injury than the airbag was designed to avoid. Hopefully, GMC will address this in a recall.

Desiccated Air Bag Inflator Rupture

NHTSA investigation EA21002 · opened Sep 17, 2021 · open

From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited.
