Takata Recall. The contact owns a 2007 GMC Yukon. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V050000 (Air Bags). The contact stated that there was a crack on the driver's side dashboard. There was no impact to the dashboard that could have caused the crack. The dealer was made aware of the recall and failure but informed the contact that while performing the air bag recall repair, there could be additional cracks to the dashboard and the manufacturer would not be responsible for the cost to replace the dashboard. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
The side air bags on the passenger and driver side front and back deployed while driving down the road. The driver side airbag hit my 19 year old son in the side of the face hard enough to cause his ears to ring. There was not a reason for the air bags to go off spontaneously. He had to pull to the side of the road blindly because he didn't know if he had been hit by another vehicle. We have filed a complaint with GMC. This could have caused a serious wreck injuring my son or someone else on the road due to the shock and force of the air bags hitting him and the inability to see after they deployed. Yes it is available for inspection.
Tl* Takata recall. The contact owns a 2007 GMC Yukon. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 21V050000 (air bags) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 MPH, she missed her exit and attempted to pull over to turn around however, the truck driving behind her could not slow down in time and while the truck driver was attempting to pass the vehicle on the right side of the roadway, the driver's side of the truck struck the contact's vehicle by the passenger's side wheel and front fender. The contact stated that the passenger's and driver's side side-curtain air bags deployed however, neither the driver's nor passenger's side frontal air bags deployed. There were no injuries sustained. …

The roof air bag deployed, but neither the driver nor passenger side air bags deployed. It was unknown if a police report were filed and if the vehicle were towed. There were no injuries sustained. The contact was referred to NHTSA. The contact stated that the vehicle was deemed destroyed by the insurance company. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. 04/27/18 fri morning driving home I hit a median with driver front tire, inwhich all my airbags deployed imediatly including side airbags and caused such a sudden panic distraction that I swerved and flipped my vehicle. I was pulled from the wreck luckily and taken by ambulance to the hospitol. My truck was completely totalled. My vehicle was in motion the entire time until it stopped rolling leaving the final position upside down. There was no reason these air bags should have deployed and they caused me to nearly lose my life. Normally jus a tire would blow in such a hit from tire. The first ones to deploy were all four window airbags then soon as I flipped the others went off and I was knocked unconscious. I was not aware there was a recall inplace and just recently bought this truck in jan. 2018.
Tl* Takata recall. The contact owns a 2007 GMC Yukon. While driving 50 MPH, the vehicle struck a deer. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was awaiting diagnostic testing. The dealer (tulley Buick GMC, 147 daniel webster hwy, nashua, nh 03060) was contacted in regards to the air bag failure, but the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The contact received a recall notification for NHTSA campaign number: 16V381000 (air bags), but the parts to do the recall repair were not available. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 190,000. Updated 10/9/18
I have tried to submit my Yukon for tanaka recall remedy several times by contacting my local GMC dealership. Their service dept continues to tell me that they do not have parts available to modify my vehicle. A few years ago I broadsided a Lexus SUV which 'ran a traffic light'. My airbags did not deploy, while several of the airbags deployed in the Lexus. I felt that my life might have been at risk since the airbags did not deploy, or alternately, at even worst risk if they did explode upon deployment. Who is responsible for addressing this issue? The GMC dealer says they are not! I have photos of the accident and a police report stating that the lady was responsible for

The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 170,000.

NHTSA investigations
Desiccated Air Bag Inflator Rupture
From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited.
