Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 2017 Ford F-150 owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).

To the Office of Defects Investigation:I am writing to formally report a critical data reporting error on NHTSA.gov involving a 2017 Ford F-150 (VIN: [redacted]).This vehicle is covered under NHTSA Campaign 26V370000 (Ford Recall 26S28) for the transmission downshift defect. I hold the physical manufacturer recall notification letter sent by Ford Motor Company confirming my truck's inclusion. The vehicle experienced the exact unexpected downshifting failure described in the campaign, resulting in a collision in [redacted]. However, when searching my VIN on both the Ford portal and the official NHTSA.gov VIN lookup tool, the database now erroneously reflects "0 Open Recalls."I request that the Office of Defects Investigation audit Ford's compliance reporting for this specific VIN. …

The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55-60 MPH, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted to first gear, causing the rear wheels to lock up. The check engine warning light was illuminated, and the wrench symbol was displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle went into LIMP Mode, and the vehicle was slow to respond. The vehicle was turned off for ten minutes and then restarted. While driving approximately 25-30 MPH, the failure recurred. The contact stated that DTC: P1702; indicated an intermittent failure with the transmission range sensor circuit (PRNDL sensor), potentially causing erratic shifting or even the vehicle entering LIMP Mode. The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case, and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. …

While traveling down the interstate at the posted speed limit of 70 MPH in the fast lane, I experienced the vehicle immediately hesitating without pressing the brake and a loud grinding noise in the front drivers side and caused me to put on my brakes, change lanes and drive off to the side of the road. The grinding stopped and then it happened again about 20 more miles down the road. I was able to get it to the Ford dealership and was told it was a defective IWE Check Valve which attempted to put my vehicle into 4 Wheel Drive. As a result, I had to replace the Front IWE and the new & improved IWE Check Valve which was designed to prevent this from happening in the future. For obvious reasons, I became upset that a known issue with defective IWE check valves causes this event to occur. …

While driving, my 2017 Ford F 150 experienced a sudden loss of the Output Shaft Speed (OSS) sensor signal, causing the transmission to stay stuck in a higher gear and triggering the wrench light. The truck lost power and would not shift properly. A diagnostic scan showed two transmission codes: one for the OSS sensor and a second code indicating an intermittent electrical signal drop. I contacted a Ford dealer before the repair, described the symptoms, and asked for an estimate. The service advisor did not disclose any known issues and never called me back after saying he would check parts availability. These symptoms match the known failure pattern of the molded lead frame in the 6R80 transmission. My truck exhibited intermittent behavior, harsh shifting, and unsafe drivability. I had to pay $1,250 out of pocket to replace the lead frame to restore normal operation. …

Took my 2017 Ford F-150 in for a diagnostic on May 8 2026 for wrench symbol check engine light and issues down shifting and sliding tires shop manager and technician claimed the vehicle is unsafe to drive and talked to the Service manager deemed the vehicle unsafe to drive wanted it grounded do to the safety concerns related to Recall 26S28 (PCM/TRS) stated the down shifting is cause catastrophic failure to all mechanical components transmission engine and rear end kidding the tires especially in wet weather the truck would cause a accident..cause the sliding of the tires..so my truck is at APPLE FORD OF LYNCHBURG GROUNDED as of May 9 2026 I still owe on the truck and have no ride dealer nor manufacture was willing to pay for a rental that cost $65 a day wanted me to pay then reimburse me once a remedy was available I cant afford that..1600 a month we are roughly 2 months away from …

There is an issue with the transmission slipping or not engaging properly. There is a strong and often loud jolt with a hard shift at times. It will also simply not engage in the next gear other times. I can be pushing down on the gas and you can hear the engine revving but the truck isn't picking up speed. This has been the most dangerous part of the transmission issues. If I'm pulling out to cross an intersection or turn onto a street and the truck isn't moving, my family is in extreme danger of being hit by oncoming traffic. The vehicle was looked at for this issue at the Ford dealership, Mel Hambelton, in Wichita, KS previously. The issue seemed to be better, almost non-existent, after I believe they reset some code. The problem has returned in the last couple of weeks and is much worse. We have an appointment Nov. 1st to have it looked into again. …

While driving the car immediately downshifted and I could not accelerate. The Hill assist came on and service advance trac came on. This happened 3 times. The first time we towed it to the dealership April 17th, and they changed the oil and tested the battery secured wires and verified after the repair on April 26th. After we picked the truck up on April 26th it stalled on the highway on the home and we had it towed again. They kept it for 4 days drove it 80 miles and said nothing was wrong no repair was done or needed. On May 13 it stalled again in front of train tracks. Luckly I was able to stop and start it quickly to drive it to a near dealership. We picked up the truck today, and it stalled again on the way home. We drove it back to the dealership today, May 23rd, hopefully they can figure it out. We are again without a car for a long period of time. …

The 5.0L Ford F-150 Engine experienced a P2005 :Manifold Runner Control Stuck Open Bank 2. This code triggers when the powertrain control module (PCM) can't control the intake manifold runner as requested . It also experienced a P2007 This code may be set due to a bad intake manifold runner solenoid or actuator with a mechanical failure within the intake manifold runner system. symptoms included poor engine performance, reduced fuel efficiency, and engine surge. It also has a P2019 DTC CODE related to the intake manifold flow control valve/position sensor, also called known as a IMRC valve/sensor (typically located at one end of the intake manifold) which helps the vehicle's PCM control the amount of air being allowed into the engine at various RPMs. This code is set for Bank 2 errors. …

Truck downshifts periodically from 3rd to 2nd gear or from 4 to 3 of 4th to 2nd, for no reason, while keeping speed same on flat road. This causes tire squealing action in some cases and is unsafe. Also, at the same time, rear motion sensor system failure light comes on with an OK button. I select the button and then a wrench sign lights up indicating service requires. Sometimes also a check engine light comes on. Sometimes also the display showing what gear truck is in goes blank, or flutters through all gears. Sometimes a fan/generator comes on as well for no apparent reason. Sometimes the truck is goes in to no gear at all (neutral?) while I am moving. I pull over, restart the engine and the problems usually go away. This problem was reported to 2 Ford dealers (Cella and Bergey) on about 7/2022 and 8/2022. …

I was driving home from work and without any warning I lost the ability to accelerate when I was on the freeway, a message popped up on my truck screen Powertrain Malfuction/Reduce power. I was lucky this time around as I was able to cost to the shoulder Cars however were speeding up to me and around me as I could not accelerate my truck. If this would have happen when I was towing my old 35 foot trailer it could have been deadly. I noticed a recall for this exact same issue on 2011 trucks, forms online seem to suggest others have had this same issue with newer 2017 trucks also. The issue turns out to be the Molded lead frame failure. Once more same issue from recall title was6r80 recall number 19507. Seems like ford did not fix it only prolong the issue or kicked it down the road. My truck is 100K others around 77K it failed so I am assuming it will happen as trucks get around 100K.
