Tl* the contact owns a 2000 Ford Expedition. While the vehicle was undergoing an oil change, the cruise control switch underneath the hood that was connected to the brake master cylinder caught on fire. The contact stated that the ignition was off at the time. The contact was able to extinguish the fire. A fire report was not filed. The contact, a certified mechanic, stated that there was brake fluid coming out of the cruise control switch. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 201,000.
I was taking my child to school for a field trip. We were in the parking lot for approx. 20 min with the engine off. Then out of nowhere a big gush of gray/black smoke appeared. I immediately got myself and children out of the car and proceeded to call 911. At this time the 2 bus drivers came and ask me to pop my hood assuming it was my car running hot when they lifted the hood there was flames. They got a fire ext. And put it out. I proceeded to find a way to get home and get my other children to school. I then called my mechanic and asked him to meet me at my truck. He inspected it and determined the sw asy and brake fluid lines had burned and melted . He talked to a couple of his friends whom own junkyards and they told him in the last year they have had 10 or so expeditions come in burned from the same problem. I called Ford and have had no response. I believe this is a man. …
Tl contact owns a 2000 Ford Expedition. While driving approximately 40 MPH, the vehicle began to vibrate and the ABS indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. Immediately following, the odometer, heat, and radio became inoperable and the vehicle began idling loudly. Upon entering her driveway, the vehicle stalled. The brake pedal was depressed, but there was no reaction. The contact rear ended another vehicle in the driveway. The vehicle did not sustain any damages; however, the vehicle that was rear ended sustained damage to the rear bumper. There were no injuries or a police report. The vehicle was towed to a local repair shop and the mechanic stated that water entered through the windshield and drained into the fuse box, which damaged the g.e.m module. The dealer was not notified. The manufacturer stated that they were not liable for the repairs. …
Anti-lock brake system activated while driving on interstate with cruise control set at 65 MPH, causing uncontrolled stop in moving traffic without warning. Never had any previous problems with ABS system. The ABS warning light was not on (and is still not on). Ford's customer relations center suggested I take my vehicle to a Ford dealership for to determine the cause of this problem. They also said there are no warranties, recalls or programs that would provide coverage for this critical safety issue with the ABS system. Before I do anything else to my vehicle I wanted to notify NHTSA first.
Tl*- the contact owns s a 2000 Ford Expedition with an odometer reading of 150000 miles. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked in the driveway when it caught on fire. The contact was able to put out the fire without contacting fire department. As the contact was putting out the fire under the hood they found that the master cylinder melted and was a possible source of the fire. The cruise control wasattached to the braking system, and the recall 05V017000 concerning ) vehicle speed control:cruise control could be a cause as well.
2000 Expedition horn failed. When the horn failed to operate an accident occurred and the air bags failed to deploy. On a previous occasion, the consumer experienced problems with the cruise control and the ABS. The consumer stated the cruise control has been replaced 4 times and the horn was replaced 3 times. The consumer believed the continued failures of the ABS and horn were due to an electrical short in the wiring.
I own a 2000 my Ford Expedition xlt. On July 4, 2010, I was leaving my house and driving down the street towards an intersection when I applied the brakes. Upon placement of my foot on the brake pedal, virtually all braking power was lost forcing me to quickly apply the emergency brake to avoid crossing an intersection. I then turned the vehicle around and drove back to my house and parked it until it could be towed. On July 6, 2010, the vehicle was towed to the local Ford dealership. Later that same day the Ford mechanic contacted me and said that the main supply line for the rear brakes had rusted causing a loss of brake fluid. Once the failure originally occurred, it did not correct itself until Ford replaced the brake system supply line. The brake failure was catastrophic in that it caused a near loss of all braking capacity. …
Throttle feels like its sticking. The breaks feel like they get harder the longer you drive or use them. Its been extremely cold the last few weeks (air temp of -28f lows to -3f for highs). You let off the break from a stop sign or stop light and it will suddenly accerlerate by itself. Seems to happen anytime after 40mph, even if you slow back down to 10-15mph it will accelerate back up on its own, up to as fast as 65mph!) I need to downshift and ride brakes (which are hard as a rock!!!) to keep it from excelling though town and to try to keep the rpms at bay. When coming to a stop and turning its hard to steer and it makes jumpy/jerky movements forward when brakes are applied. When vehicle comes to a stop the rpms skyrocket until you shut down the engine. If you havn't given it enough time before you start it again, the engine and rpms soar up again. …
I have now replaced the front brakes and rotors 3 times since buying this 2000 Ford Expedition in late 2000. I was informed by a former service manager from Ford that this defect is known and wide spread. What he explained to me that they received a large lot of front right brake lines that were to small or concluded enough so as not to let the caliper completely release the pads from the rotor causing failure of both in as little as 15000 miles. There is a cover up and people are probably having accidents due to this defect. I will never buy another Ford. We also had the leaking windshield over the drivers side that would leak into the electrical boards in the dash causing the lights to go out/the radio to go off and on by itself. The worst was it trying to start with no key or person in the vehicle and ruining the starter and the battery. Do not buy this vehicle!!!!!!!!!!!!! …
My wife parked our 2000 Ford Expedition at work around 8:30 a.m. Two hours later it was on fire. After many conversations with marshall mize Ford they told me that the cause of the fire started in the brake system. They said that brake fluid leaked on my manifold and sparked a flame causing my car to burst into flames. I was under the impression that brake fluid was not flammable, especially after sitting for two hours it should not have even been hot enough. My truck was fixed and we have not had any problems with it yet. The fire started in the engine compartment on the left side. The fire was quickly put out causing there to be only $6500 in damage. Parts replaced consist of the main wiring harness, the components of the brake system under the hood, and the cruise control system. If needed we can fax a complete invoice of all parts and labor.
