What 2000 Ford E-350 owners say
Wheels & tires
Consumer states that his camper van conversion has not had a smooth ride due to tires. The tire make an oscillating noise which makes the consumer think the tread is about to separate. The vehicle was taken to a for dealer but they were unable to be balanced. In the opinion of the technician the tires were too far out of tolerance. One of the tires could not be balanced therefore Goodyear replaced it. The consumer read several article about an agreement between NHTSA and Goodyear to replace 200000 tires on 15 passenger vans equipped with light truck load range e tires for model years 1996 to 2000. The consumer believes the camper conversion should be included in the replacement.
While driving 50 MPH, the rear right outer tire tread separated, but didn't' go flat. The consumer heard a flapping noise from the back of the vehicle and pulled over to inspect the noise. The left rear inner tire tread separated 9 days later while driving on the highway 40 MPH. These were load range e tires. Both tires were replaced. The second tire caused slight damage to the wheel well and the first tire simply marred the inner wheel well. Both tread separations begun on the inside of the rim which was also at the same point on the tire.
Fuel & propulsion system
I was driving a Ford diesel van north on highway 31 towards pennington, nj, when the truck started acting up. Ultimately, it stalled - right there on the highway; 4 lanes, semi trucks coming around a bend @ 40 + MPH, and no shoulder. I told my helper to leave the truck because I was sure we were going to get hit. No way a tractor trailer, at those speeds, could stop in time. Several semi's had to cut off cars in the left lane to avoid us. I thought for sure I was dead. After sweating it out, I finally got the truck started and got to a side street, at about 5 MPH. That's when I called aaa & got the truck towed to my Ford dealer, where they want $2500 to repair what they call " fuel tank delamination". …
7.3 liter diesel engine stalling. Fuel pump and fuel filter replaced;fuel tank removed and cleaned; silver paint flakes were found blocking the fuel pickup. Tank was re-installed and problem re-occurred within 100 miles. Van was taken to local Ford dealership and tank was removed again. Silver paint flakes were found blocking the fuel pickup line again. The service technician determined that the fuel tank liner was de-laminating, and the fuel tank needed replacing. I have the defective tank in my possession. This was a dangerous defect that caused engine stalling in heavy traffic, endangering myself and other motorists behind and beside me. This was also an expensive and time consuming repair, resulting in loss of use and rental expenses.
Engine & cooling
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 Ford e-350. The contact heard a loud, booming noise from the front of the vehicle. The contact discovered that a spark plug exploded and dislodged from the engine, which shattered the engine coil pack. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The local dealer (tom holzer Ford, 39300 w. 10 mile rd, farmington hills, mi) was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 151,000.
I have a 200 Ford e-350. At 130,000 miles the spark plug blew out of number 8 cylinder. And broke the coil pack. Then blew out again at 155,000 mile and now has taken the threads with it. The engine must be pulled, in which will result in a huge bill for me. Ford should be made to recall this problem they have with many of there engines.
