While driving at a low speed brakes failed. The emergency brake was the only thing that stopped the vehicle. Repairs were made on the hub. After repairs brakes failed again, consumer's vehicle rear ended another vehicle. V
Was driving my 2000 1500 and had brake failure. Upon inspection not only did I find extensive rust on lines but my rear shackles are rotting through and some places on the frame. Started to think there no way this should not be happening to this truck. Only 140000 miles this has got to be a case of poor quality. Not only is this a safety issue and should be checked on but it is an expensive fix. I did slide off the road but I came to a safe stop in a field luckily my e-brake worked and nobody else was around. Could you please investigate this and take care of it. Chevrolet should stand by their product but they don't care about us, they just want their money. Also there is a lot of rust on body of truck, like actual holes in bedside and passenger side rocker panel is bad. Thank you for your time and consideration ,sincerely Chevy truck owner:(
The consumer took the vehicle to be inspected. This is when the mechanic noticed that the front wheel bearings on the left and right side needed to be replaced. There was three inches of looseness up and down, left and right on both wheel because of bearing failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they agreed that the bearing were worn. The vehicle had exceeded the 36000 mile warranty by about 200 miles, therefore the consumer had to pay for the repairs. The consumer was also informed that there were no grease fittings which is why the bearings had to be replaced. Manifold/gasket leaked due to poor design.
Dt: the consumer stated that 2000 Chevrolet Silverado was having a problem with the ABS engaging at low speeds, 5-10 MPH. The consumer contacted GM, and this vehicle not included in the recall. The consumer took the truck to a repair shop and had the truck fixed. The repair shop replaced the hub bearing. The dealership was contacted, and they said that it happened a lot. The bearing was replaced on the left front, and that seemed to have fixed the vehicle.
Tailgate cables broke while standing on tailgate loading materials-no injury (July 2003). Left front day time running light blew and burnt the socket. Have seen numerous other same models with same problem (2001). Back passenger doors on the extended cab do not fully lock during 30 degree weather and below until the interior heats up. (dec-feb 2000-2004) left front wheel hub bearing is defective after 38,000 miles. (dec 2004)
Dt: consumer states at 44,000 miles the rotors, pads and wheel bearings were replaced. Six months later the wheel speed ABS sensor have failed. Could not stop the vehicle when going between 2 and 8 MPH. Consumer took vehicle to a Goodyear dealership, and was told there was a technical service bulletin on the ABS brakes. Number not available. Consumer was going to call general motors today. The problem occurred regularly.
Vehicle is 2000 Chevy Silverado 4 wheel drive with approx 50K miles. At slow (under 15 MPH) speed coming to a stop driver side front ABS engaged and almost hit car in front. At first I thought maybe wet road but it nows does it every morning when coming to a stop at the end of my road dealer said I need to replace front wheel bearing. Have an appointment for first week in sept. And will have all parts saved.
I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500, about 4 months ago the problem started, when I am traveling at or above 40 MPH the truck vibrates. You can feel this vibration thru the steering wheel and also when the 4 wheel drive is on and I turn the wheel to park the wheels seem as if they are resisting almost as if the whole wheel is just going to break this started last winter.
ABS brakes engage each time I come to a slow stop( I.e. Pulling up to a stop sign or red light) extending my stopping distance. Dealer states that the ABS speed sensors and front hubs must be replaced but cannot tell me what is wrong. The ABS warning light does not come on although according to the dealer( kelly Chevrolet, butler, pa) the system is malfunctioning.
