This truck has had issues since I first purchased it. Brakes would not stop the truck in a safe distance which ended up with me having an accident with it. The brake line rusted out after less than 100,000 miles and needed to replace them all. Now with 173,000 miles the gas lines are leaking and the frame is rusted so bad that it cannot be put up on a lift to fix the brake lines.

I am currently working based in Mexico. My 2000 tahoe is my family vehicle that I only use to travel with my family within Mexico. On Friday the 21st of January 2005 my son and I were traveling on a state road and my tahoe caught on fire going 50 MPH. Trafic on the road was signaling to me as if there was a problem but I continued to drive for about 100 yards because all the leves and gauges were normal on the truck. I stopped immediately after I saw some smoke and by the time I stopped the truck was in flames on the front, underneath and rear. I only had time to take my 6 year old child out of the truck which was the most important aspect but the truck and belongings were a total loss. The fire department could not stop the fire as it lasted for 1 hour and nothing but the frame was left of the truck. …

Had to disconnect the anti lock brake so I could stop. When driving slow and pressing on the brake pedal, the pedal is solid and does not move. Very dangerous. Cannot stop the vehicle at all. Brake lines rotted out. Has to replace. Transmission lines rotted out. Had to replace. Transmission oil cooler rotted out. Had to replace. Fuel lines are rotting out. Not replaced yet. Drive shaft is questionable. Severely rusted. Rear backing plates rotted off, no more parking - emergency brake. Check engine light will not go out. Replaced catalytic converter many times with no results. Engine leaks oil. Loosing coolant, possible burning it. Fuel mileage is terrible. Body rusted out. Rocker panels are gone. Cab corners are gone. Rear bumper is gone. Putting the spare tire underneath is a stupid idea. The cost to replace these parts is too expensive. …

Started smelling gas from under my truck. Looked for a leak and could not locate at that time. Then got a code po 457, EVAP leak. Then after driving noticed odor of gas getting stronger as time went on . Checked under the truck again and found gas spraying from the pressure line right onto the exhaust ! Huge potential fire hazard ! After further investigation fuel lines are very corroded and now compromised. This is a fire bomb waiting to go !

The fuel line supplying the engine fuel rail ruptured due to excessive corrosion because of the location it is in and fuel was spraying out underneath the truck,. Dangerously close to the hot catalytic converter. The defective fuel line is an extremely difficult repair, due to having to remove the bed/cab for replacement and access to it. The fuel and brake lines are improperly routed from the factory, causing premature failure due to corrosion and salt damage. In my opinion, there should be a recall and this inherently dangerous problem rectified. The brake lines on this same truck failed from corrosion two years ago. Same scenario, improper routing causing excessive and premature failure from rust and corrosion due to the location they are in.

While driving at 45 MPH, my brake light came on. I immediately started to pull over and noticed that I felt less pressure on brake pedal. I was able stop the vehicle, but notice no puddles. Resumed drive home. Check fluid reservoir, fluid almost gone. Filled reservoir and pumped brakes back up. Noticed some drips in driveway. Also noticed slight gas smell. Took vehicle to mechanic and he determined that not only was the brake line rotted, the gas lines were rotting out as well. The areas that were rotted the most is right where the support brackets are. These were underneath driver side door, headed up into engine compartment. Lines were replaced with stainless steel lines to prevent from happening further.

Brake line failure on 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500. Has happened twice due to lines rusting out, and now mechanic says fuel lines are rusting out. I live in ky with little salt and have heard numerous other complaints about the same issue. Driving along and bam, no brakes due to corrosion. Last time it happened to my wife and pregnant daughter in law. Someone is going to get seriously hurt or killed if it hasn't already happened. GM has our tax dollars and should use some of it to recall and fix this deadly problem. This is costing between $400.00 to $600.00 to repair. Local mechanic has said it is a constant problem with these vehicles in this year range, along with tahoes.

'the pads rusted to the rotors, destroying the rotors. I had to have all the rotors and pads replaced. Since then have had to replace the pads and rotors two more times. I've also had to replace the rear calipers and the backing plates at less than 100,000 miles. I've had to replace the ABS sensors and grease boot s on the front axels. Replaced the universal joint, the four wheel drive switches twice, the power window mechanisms, the tail gate straps and the lever--which isn't working right again, the gas tank strap, rusty fuel lines and brake lines, and the differential cover that rusted out. Also the air conditioning pulley.

I own a 2000 Chevy Silverado z71. When I start my truck my gas gauge will stay on empty even with a full tank of gas. It will also show a half a tank of gas when I am actually empty. This caused me to run out of gas on a busy interstate nearly causing an accident with my two children in the truck with me. My sister owns a 2000 GMC truck like mine and her gas gauge will not work at all. She has ran out of gas several times because of it. Once on i10 in the middle of the night about 30 to 20 miles from a town. It is obviously a know problem. Is GM waiting for someone to get killed on a highway before they decide to fix it?
