What owners report

Truck was purchased 7/7/20. Seemed to work fine, but started noticing engine trouble on 9/10/20. Had only driven it ~150 miles since purchase, never any strenuous driving. Took it in to get serviced on 9/21/20, where several problems were spotted, one of which is traceable to the dealer: 1) the distributor cap was being held on only by two zipties. This is why it seemed to run fine on the date of purchase, but caused engine misfires within a few months of light use. The dealership notified me the day before I purchased it that the distributor was being fixed, but they failed to notify me that it wasn't fixed properly. Truck now misfires, has an arcing wire, and is unsafe to drive. 2)truck was sold with no parking brake, and no warning that it was not installed. This information has omitted when I asked about safety issues before purchasing. Never noticed because phx is so flat. …

I purchased a model 2003 Chevrolet S10 crew cab in December of 2002. Sometimes when I fill the tank it overflows, runs down the side of the truck and makes a spot of gasoline on the ground. It has overflowed many times since I bought the truck, using both the highest and lowest fill settings on the fuel pump nozzle. The dealership replaced the fuel tank, vent lines, charcoal canister, and other parts. The Chevrolet regional service manager said that Chevrolet will not do any more work on the truck. I try to fill the tank with the lowest fill setting on the gas nozzle, but sometimes it still overflows. I am concerned it will ruin my paint and/or become a fire hazard. I was told that the cause of the problem is that Chevrolet redesigned the fuel tank for this truck, which removed the vent line that goes from the tank to the top of the fill pipe.

Broken fuel line below drivers seat. While standing outside of the vehicle, I reached inside and started the ignition, after which I saw an approaching fluid coming toward my feet. While waiting for the engine to warm-up, I loaded the vehicle with some personal items (lunch bag, coffee) and then got inside, closed the door and continued to let the engine warm-up. I asked my passenger if they too could smell gasoline. We both agreed that the smell was extremely strong at which time I opened the door to check the source. I saw that the approaching fluid I had seen on the ground earlier was now being pumped out at a great rate and immediately shut off the ignition and told my passenger to exit the vehicle due to a broken fuel line. There has been no work done on the vehicle prior to this event. Nobody has touched the truck and I am not aware of this being an earlier problem. …

Myself and two friends have had problems with bad gasonline caps at approximately 10 years of vehicle life. The wear and tear over 10 years has diminished the seal capacity of the gasoline cap. The gasoline cap defect or normal wear/tear seems to result in EVAP cannisters becoming saturated, which results in an identified small leak in the system during smog check in ca. Perhaps, the coincidence of gas caps seals worn and EVAP cannister needing replacement at the same time with a few people is statistically insignificant, but the cost to replace a gas cap ~$30.00 and EVAP cannister ~$300.00 is significant. What advisories or improvements May be made in this area? I recommend three solutions: 1. Replacement gasoline cap schedule by manufacturer; 2. Notification to car owner to regularly check gasoline cap seals after 7 years by manufacturer; and/or 3. …

I'm having a problem with I believe it's the fuel sensor my truck gets up to a certain temperature and it just dies and it's not just my truck it's in a lot of the newer model Colorado's as well I have a friend who's having the same exact problem as I am when it gets up past 95 degrees, the truck just all of a sudden stops in the engine turns off, and you have to try and steer your truck without any power steering, the reason I am filing this is if this happens in the middle of the road it could possibly cause an accident and that would be no good and it only happens when it is hot outside in the winter time or when it's cold I have no issues whatsoever

I purchase this vehicle in April 2015 (used) I drove the vehicle home and it registered a half a tank of gas, I drove it a few days and the gas gauge needle did not move. I notified the auto center where I purchase the vehicle and took it back for repairs. Five weeks after the repair the gas gauge is still faulty. I was driving on the highway and the vehicle shut down (out of gas) the gas gauge needle read a quarter tank of gas. I contacted the auto center where I purchase the vehicle and I was told the S10 and the GMC model of this vehicle has a history of faulty gas gauge's. My only recourse is to have this item repaired again without any guarantee the same problem will happen again.----2001 Chevrolet S10 fuel sdystem, other bulletin 13599---action number 10001283 report date mar 01,2003 thank you [redacted] '

I have a 2000 Chevy s-10, 4.3 liter with 69300 miles on it. The engine on this vehicle does not want to turn over and run. I 've had this happen on 5 occasions within the past month. I know it is a gas problem getting to the carburetor since I have splashed a little gas or starting fluid in the carburetor to see if the engine will fire up. The engine does start but shuts down because of a lack of fuel to keep it running. I have replace fuel filter 2 times, map sensor and have recently read that GM used a sock strainer on the fuel pump that tends to get clogged up. I also understand that GM has resolved this problem with a different style of strainer. I am very concerned about this since the last time my engine failed I was driving on a busy cleveland, ohio interstate (I-77 by pershing ave exit ramp). I was able to get the vehicle restarted after several attempts to turn the engine over. …

Engine stall due to fuel starvation

NHTSA investigation PE02066 · opened Sep 6, 2002 · closed Nov 3, 2003

Odi opened pe02-066 to evaluate the scope and consequence of engine power-loss due to fuel starvation induced by in-tank modular fuel pump strainer restriction.the subject pumps use an external ?sock? Strainer to filter fuel flowing to the pump inlet.this filter can sometimes become clogged, resulting in a reduced flow of fuel to the engine.GM has subsequently modified the strainers to reduce this…
