When vehicle is in motion on city streets or open highways on sunny days, driver sometimes becomes blinded from glare from "melting" shiny dashboard. This problem with "melting" dashboard began maybe 5-6 years ago and has kept getting worse. The blinding reflections are now so bad at times that we are concerned about having an accident because we are sometimes blinded by reflections from the shiny dashboard.

Dash pad is sticky and shiny and lights from cars, and street lights reflect off of it into the driver's eyes. It occurs from oncoming vehicles when on narrow roads and lights from stores and street lights in commercial areas
Complaint regarding sticky, shiny dashboard. I just purchased a 2006 Toyota Solara. Complaint is about the dashboard. (1) the stickyness of the dashboard - holds dust and grime and can not be cleaned, and (2) the sticky surface results in a shiny/reflective creating a safety hazard as it reflects glare both day and night on the windshield. This is a health and safety issue. I bought in oct 2017 and immediately took it to the Toyota dealership near me. I was told due to the car manufacture date, I was not able to take advantage of the recall of the dashboard from Toyota. I am told the dashboard part is $1,800 - wow! This is a health & safety issue and I demand my dashboard be replaced at no charge to me.
Tl*- the contact owns a 2006 Toyota Solara convertible with a current and failure mileage of 12,953 . The contact stated that the vehicle was in a crash on March 27, 2007 the driver was backing out of the parking spot and hit another vehicle. She could not see out of the rearview mirror because the head rest was too big. There was no police report. The vehicle was not towed. The contact stated took the vehicle to the dealer to see if he could get the headrest taken off or replaced with smaller one, and was told that the headrest could not be removed or replaced. Update 05/04/07\updated 08/08/07.
I need your help on problems and laws governing new cars. I just took delivery of my 2004 Toyota Solara convertible. The problem is an obstructed view out of my rearview mirror. There is only a 12" width between the two large headrests on the back seat. I have blind spots that I cannot pick up with either my side mirrors or my rearview mirror. I have been to the north carolina highway patrol. As the law is written, had I loaded my car to block the view in this manner, I would be in violation. However, a car can be constructed with an obstructed view. Apparently, my Toyota is not the only car designed with an obstructed view. Friends of mine who drive vans tell me they also cannot see well out of their rearview mirrors. Please help. There should be a law governing manufactures to provide proper view for passenger cars.
There is a haze on my windshield and interior windows. I have cleaned the windows but the haze reappears. Dealer says the problem is "vinyl out gassing per Toyota tech assistance. Dealer says problem could last from 6 months to a year and the problem can not be corrected. The haze impairs my vision especially at dusk and at night. The problem substantially impairs the use and market value of the vehicle. The "gassing" problem is also a health issue. I will not drive at night becuase of the vision problem. I rarely drive during the day and only with the convertible top down because of the "gassing" problem.
