What owners report
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 Mazda 3. While stopped, the contact's vehicle was rear ended by another vehicle. The front driver's seat fractured and collapsed. The contact sustained whiplash and injuries to the neck and lower back. The driver of the other vehicle was taken away by ambulance. Medical attention was required. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 6,000.
All seats separate from the base of the seat, meaning there is nothing holding the cushion that you sit on to the wire frame attached to the floor. The dealership informed me that the warranty solution after 7 attempts of fixing was to put zip ties through the nylon seat material and connect it to the base. This is not a solution to the problem since the thin nylon will just rip under pressure.
Headrest unusable in safe driving position. Forces head to floor or prevents proper back placement on seat, sometimes both. The only way to sit in the seat comfortably is to have the seat leaning too far back where I cannot reach the steering wheel comfortably. Wheels would vibrate at speeds above 55, sometimes as low as 40. Recently fixed by dealership. Brakes were improperly adjusted and scraped against the inside of the brake assembly. Made a loud scratch sound. Took two visits to the dealership to be fixed. All events required individual visits to the repair shop, and I am uncertain of the long-term viability of the vehicle. Any small issue raises extra concerns. Vehicle has only 2K miles after a year of ownership because of either driving discomfort or the vehicle being in the shop to be worked on.
The power seat lift and lower mechanics have failed so that the seat no longer raises or lowers to its original extent. This prevents the driver of the vehicle from adjusting the seat properly for safe driving. The actuator, fuses, and wiring are all functional and the mechanical components simply no longer allow full range of motion regarding seat height even with manual adjustment. I believe the mechanical components simply failed and am not aware of any specific cause. I am 6'3'' and my wife is 5'4'' and seat height adjustment is critical to safe driving.
The vehicle was stationary and was struck from behind at approximately 30mph. The ratcheting system that controls the recline of the drivers seat failed causing the seat to recline as a result of the impact.
The seat lifter link on my 2013 Mazda 3 power seat has a broken weld that allows the drivers seat to wobble front to back. The weld has opened up showing the motor shaft. When you accelerate the seat moves back and feels like it will separate from the frame. Called local Mazda dealer and they have no recall on this and my warranty does not cover this. Vehicle has 187,400 miles. Found online that there was a previous issue in the 2010 - 2011 vehicles. Mazda had a recall campaign 0917b for that issue. Apparently there is still an issue with defective welds in the seat frame. First noticed this condition after accelerating to enter the interstate highway. Has gotten worse in the last two weeks.
The contact owns a 2012 Mazda Mazda3. The contact stated while at a standstill, she heard a popping sound coming from the driver's side seat resulting in the seat moving and not maintaining an appropriate driving position. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V082000 (Seats) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.
Driver seat has become loose and rocks forward in an up and down fashion while driving. Can be rock by hand as well when not sitting in the seat. A prior recall addressed this issue with 2010-2011 Mazda 3's. This is a 2012 that is having the same problem, but the recall does not apply to it. The recall needs to be expanded to included all vehicles experiencing this issue.
