I changed my brakes, and caliper myself because it was time for my brakes, and the caliper was hard to get off, so I replaced it. It felt like my brakes were still sticking, I took it to three repair shops and they couldn't figure out what was wrong. Finally I took it to a repair shop because my brakes were making noise by this time. They replaced the pads, rotors, and caliper. When I picked it up from the shop and was driving home I smelled a burning smell and pulled over and my car was on fire. I had to put it out before it spread to the rest of my car. They had to replace the brake line and now it's okay. I didn't have any warning lights on my dash go off, I have receipts for the repair shops and parts. This is definitely a safety concern because if I would have associated that smell with the new brakes and didn't pull over, it could have been a lot worse. …

When the ABS wheel sensor detaches from it's mounting point on the transaxle (i.e. from rust) but is still in proximity to the tone wheel, the intermittent signals sent to the ABS system causes unpredictable, uncontrolled application of the brakes while driving. This could very likely cause an accident as the car will brake without the brake lights illuminating resulting in a following vehicle crashing into the car. Also, unexpected braking could easily cause loss of control of the vehicle. There were yellow (not red) warning lights on the instrument cluster indicating that there was a problem with the ABS/Anti-skid / 4WD drive system. The warning lights appeared several days before the braking behavior was observed.

I rented a 2014 Jeep Patriot from one of the rental car companies on feb 17 2015 and used it for about five days before the following incident happened. On feb 22 , I was driving the car on I-5 going south. I made an exit after driving for about 2 hours on the freeway to refuel which I did. It was bright sunny day the time was around noon. I moved away from the gas pump and wanted to park it behind the gas station. I found a space between two cars and as I was slowly moving towards the parking space the car accelerated at an incredible speed, broke into a fence of a private residence, then hit a play house (for children) and landed in the swimming pool. …

Just after purchasing my Jeep brand new with only 17 miles on it, around approximately 4500 miles, the brakes started making noises when depressing the brake pedal. I returned to the dealership and informed the technician about the problem, and he stated it was happening to all the vehicles that year with the specific brakes, and was a manufacture defect. Then he stated there were no recalls, but all the jeeps brakes they were selling were having the same issue. I spoke to another couple that contacted Jeep directly, and they had replaced the brakes, but the design wasn't different and their brakes also were making noises on their brand new Jeep. Currently, the breaks squeak, and have since just after owning the car. Its distracting to the driver due to the noise, and I have almost gotten into an accident due to the noise. …
