The vehicle's gauges will turn off while driving randomly. The speedometer, odometer, tachometer, fuel gauge will all zero out for unspecified amounts of time. Sometimes 10 seconds, other times until the vehicle is started back up. This occurs when the vehicle is in motion. So, is very dangerous. Sometimes it causes the car to completely shut off and come back on. While shut off, the car sounds like it is struggling to continue its forward progress. This happens occasionally. Once the car corrects itself, the check engine light appears. After starting the car 2-3 times, the misfire corrects itself. I did a previous report related to the air bag light is on, but not sure if it is related with the same electrical problem.
Vehicle will all of a sudden shut off with out warning while driving. It has shut off while in motion going about 25miles per hour . I hurry and put it in park and restart it. It has restarted every time. Sometime the lights on the dash will flash for a moment but has only done that 2 times out of the 10 that it has shut off while driving
driving down the road my head lights with flicker on and off and its making the lights inside the jeep go on and off as well reported this awhile ago as well due to the face that tis is not safe while going down the road sometimes it will shut off on its own while driving and then it will come right back in like nothing happened
We own a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. When we start the vehicle, for about the first 20 minutes of driving, the vehicle will shut off multiple times when driving slow or coming to a stop. My wife was coming home from work and she was leaving the parking garage she parked at for work. When she was driving up the ramp to exit the garage, the Jeep shut off on her and it rolled backwards down the ramp into a building support pillar. This caused damage to the back bumper and taillight. We were lucky nobody was hurt or behind her when this happened. When I drive the Jeep it seems like it happens more often. When I leave for work in the morning and arrive at the first stop light, the Jeep will shut off. Sometimes it turns green at the same time so I have to shift back to neutral to start up, making some people miss the green. …
Was driving my Jeep at night with my infant in the back seat, 55mph. Suddenly all the lights in the dashboard and parking assistance lights in the back all lite up. At the same time the heater stopped working and my headlights went out as well. They came back on about 5 seconds later. I continued to drive when it did it again. I switched the lights out of auto. The same problem occurred again but this time the head lamps did not go out, all the warning lights on the dash still flashed and heat went off. It resumed the whole way home but never fully lost power. It still does this on a daily basis, multiple times. I feel as if it's getting worse but no one can diagnose and figure out what's wrong with it. Considering the airbag warning and others(all of them) light up, I'm concerned for my safety and my sons. Today as I was driving it seemed worse. …
I have a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee srt8 about two weeks ago I was leaving a store at night when I started the Jeep the indicator light for my bright lights was on I tried to turn them off nothing happened they were stuck on then I realized I had no turn signals either. When I went inside the store the brights were not on and everything was working fine. I went ahead and drove home without turn signals and my bright lights stuck on about 10 min into my drive everything started working again. Then about a week ago and I turned left to enter a highway everything inside the Jeep went black I lost all interior power gauges, instrument panel, radio, ac, lights and fans the Jeep stuttered but kept running when this happened everything came back about a minute later. …
I have been dealing with this Jeep Grand Cherokee issue for years now. At one point there was a recall on the ignition switch and it was replaced at the local Chrysler dealer. The issue I have is identical to the one in the link attached. Up until a few weeks ago, I lived with it. Now the issue has turned dangerous because it also affects the ability to brake and turn. When the brakes seemed compromised, I took the Jeep in for repair but they were not able to duplicate the issue. I picked it up last week from the repair shop and today it was the power steering that went out along with the usual dash panel function going out. I realize that this is an older Jeep but it seems Chrysler should still be responsible for the vehicle safety. …
Light bulbs behind the climate control unit and information center blow. Console is designed in such a way that the blown light bulbs cannot be replaced as they are fused to the circuit board of the affected unit. Only way to fix this issue is to replace the affected unit (like the whole climate control), which is quite expensive. This is a design flaw since the bulbs are neither maintenance-free (and long-lasting) nor serviceable. Operating the vehicle with blown console lights at night is a safety hazard because it cause the driver to take the eyes off the road for an extended period of time while trying to operate unlit console equipment. This is a common issue in 2005-2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee wk and 2006-2010 Jeep commander.
This is not the first time this has happened since I purchased the Jeep in 2009 but it was the most significant one. All lights went off inside & out. There was some problem with the steering & the braking also. The motor did not die nor did the A/C or radio go off. When this happens all the warning lights flash a few times & for a few seconds I loose all the lights & experience the braking & steering problems. I did receive the recall notice for the ignition switch in September, 2014 stating that they were trying to get the parts for repair but I have not heard anything else from Chrysler. This is the only vehicle that I have and at this point I am afraid to drive any distance.
Recently bought our Jeep and have dimming lights due to low idle and also have a problem with starting it. There are times it wont start unless the battery is disconnected and reconnected 5 mins later and that's after shutting the vehicle off after driving it. From what I have read there is an issue with the wire harness from the battery. The low idle is making the lights dim throughout the vehicle and from what I have read on that it needs a system update that can cost roughly 1000 which I dont have. My wife also said while she was driving home that the transmission slipped on her for no apparent reason. She said she pulled over and put it in park and back in gear and then it acted fine.
