(1) events leading up to failure: on three separate occasions, my 2004 Isuzu Rodeo 2wd vehicle suddenly accelerated forward while my foot was on the brake pedal. (2) failure and its consequences: all incidences occurred while waiting at either a stop light or sign. Had I not had my foot firmly on the brake pedal, the vehicle would have lunged forward and either hit the car in front or a pedestrian in a crosswalk. (3) what was done to correct the failure: on June 26, 2006, I took the vehicle in to the only authorized Isuzu dealership on the island of oahu to investigate the problem. After checking the car over for two full days, they were not able to resolve the issue. The dealership claims that I would need to recreate the scenario for them to fix the problem. …

My 2001 Isuzu Rodeo that I have had for 9 years has never really given me any problems until this year. This exact incident has occurred on three different occasions now. I will be driving, the speed does not matter, sometimes it is 30, 50, or 80 MPH, and the car will just start losing power. First the dash and all my gauges will go out, then the motor will start to sound funny and start losing power. Then as I make it to the side (thankfully every time) it just stops running and everything shuts off. I try to re-crank it and it won't turn over. I will turn my flashers on and even then they run at an extremely reduced rate and sometimes not at all. I have replaced my battery, the wiring to my alternator, my alternator, and my EGR valve. …

After exiting a parking lot and when approaching the traffic signal (already red) at a speed less than 5mph (the signal was approx 5 car lengths from the parking lot exit), while further slowing (braking) to line up behind the last of the 2 cars already stopped at the signal, the Rodeo unexpectedly accelerated which required the driver to aggressively and continuously apply the brakes. The Rodeo slowed but could not be stopped within a distance of approx 2-3 car lengths and resulted in contact with the 2nd car which was stopped at the signal. After exchanging insurance info with the involved parties, the Rodeo was driven directly to ckm auto service to diagnose the cause of the unexpected acceleration.
