The vehicle's driver monitoring / Forward Attention Warning system repeatedly gives false inattentive-driver warnings during normal highway driving, even when I am actively watching the road and driving normally. The system does not appear to function reliably with ordinary sunglasses and common driving conditions. The issue happens frequently when wearing sunglasses. The system incorrectly determines that I am not paying attention, despite looking directly ahead at the roadway. When this happens, Highway Driving Assist and lane-centering functions may disengage or become unavailable. This occurs in normal daytime driving conditions and appears overly sensitive to environmental factors, including reflections, lighting conditions, and driver seating position. I typically receive multiple false warnings during a single drive. …
While using Highway Driving Assist/Lane Following Assist on Interstate highways, lane markings frequently disappear on overpasses and in construction areas. When this occurs, lane-centering assistance silently disengages. The only indication is a small dashboard icon changing color. There is no audible warning, steering wheel vibration, or other prominent alert. The vehicle may begin drifting before the driver realizes steering assistance has been lost. Observed repeatedly on Massachusetts highways, including I-495 and I-290. This creates an unexpected and serious safety issue, potentially resulting in an accident. I had this happen during a recent trip, and multiple times the car wandered towards an adjacent lane. It caused me to lose confidence in the system, and to maintain constant vigilance, gripping the wheel tightly at all times. …
When using cruise control the Driver Warning Alert sends visible and audible alerts (Keep your eyes on the road) even when I'm looking straight ahead, not wearing glasses, and not blocking the camera. I have tried multiple steering wheel angles and seat positions. At times I can drive for 30 minutes with no alarms but at other times it goes off every 30 seconds. This takes my attention away from my driving as I work on cancelling the alarm and puts me in a dangerous situation - exactly the opposite of its intended use. I have taken it to the dealer who claims there is nothing they can do about it even though two of their service reps told me they have the same problem. I have contacted Hyundai and they claim that the feature is acting as it was designed and refuse to fix it. …
1 Vehicle fails to start x 6 , dealer unable to fix, falsely identified 2 documented DTCs P31C507 specifically indicates a "possible condition with your Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) / Low DC-DC Converter (LDC)" dealer stated as charger problem when this is often associated with thousands of ICCU problems in this vehicle 2 many ADAS cruise control faults. A vehicle slows and, once stopped, at freeway speed on corners or when a large vehicle is in a nearby, separate lane. Fails to detect the vehicle in the next lane when activating lane change. 3. I turned on adaptive cruise control while on the highway and got an alert from the Forward Attention Warning system that I wasn't paying attention even though I was looking out at the road normally. The car eventually decided this meant I was unresponsive and initiated an automatic Emergency Stop in the middle of the highway. The only way I could get the adaptive cruise control to work as expected was to remove my glasses, which I need to see clearly and drive safely. I was able to disable the Adaptive Cruise Control and continue driving normally before the car stopped in the highway, but this seems like it could create a dangerous situation. After a bit of testing, I found that Forward Attention Warning system did not work with some pairs of my prescription glasses and some non-prescription sunglasses I use when I wear contact lenses. …
When in cruise control, the driver attention warning message appears regardless of where my eyes might be, whether I am wearing glasses or sunglasses or not, with nothing obstucting the sensor, with the steering wheel adjusted higher or lower. I have since May of 2025 tried to figure out how to get it to work properly to no avail. The warning continues to appear with an alarm ubntil it turns the motor off completely, even at highway speed causing an extremely dangerous situation. Additionally, I depend on the cruise control to help me maintain a safe, legal speed. This malfunction, rather than being a safety feature, is a distraction to safe driving. It CAUSES distraction, rather than provide safety. Hyundai is fully aware of this deficiency, yet has not addressed it I know that Many have experienced this smae problem. It is time for a recall to remedy this problem.
The Driver Attention Warning system fails every time I put the car in Cruise Control. I have adjusted my seat and the steering column but no relief. I have removed my hat and sunglasses with no relief. I have my hands at 8 and 4. The DAW IR tracking causes a visual warning in the dashboard and then a horrific cacophony if I try to ignore the warning. Two weeks ago an OTA was downloaded which purported to improve the sensitivity of head movement. It is not improved, if anything it is quicker to warn. In settings I turned off the Lane Following Assist and Driver Warning Assist each time I start the car. This does nothing to impact the failure of the DAW. The lack of Cruise Control on long drives causes fatigue and does not help with safety. The constant harassment of the DAW warning does not lend to safer driver. This whole system is intrusive and not making driving safer.
I am reporting a serious safety defect involving my 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 (lease vehicle, brand new). While driving on a highway in Massachusetts during snowy conditions, the vehicle suddenly displayed a critical warning message "Stop and Check Power Supply" and lost power, forcing us to stop on the highway. There were two children in the vehicle, and the situation was life-threatening due to traffic speed, weather conditions, and lack of a safe shoulder. The vehicle is new and under lease, and this type of failure is unacceptable and extremely dangerous. The car had to be towed to Hyundai of Braintree, MA. This is a serious safety failure, not a comfort or convenience issue. I am concerned this defect could result in serious injury or death if it happens again, either to my family or to others. I am requesting a formal investigation into this defect.
FORWARD ATTENTION WARNING When driving, the vehicle randomly and repeatedly warns the driver to pay attention to the road even when the driver is facing forward and paying attention to the road. The system will also randomly and repeatedly alarm, disable cruise control and apply the brakes even when the driver has both hands on the wheel and is facing forward. This has nearly caused crashes. Hyundai states the system is working as designed and suggested: 1. Driver is too tall for the system see my eyes. 2. Do not wear prescription glasses. 3. Do not wear sunglasses. Research has revealed hundreds and hundreds of similar complaints. Hyundai has issued a technical service bulletin 25-GI-001H stating there is nothing wrong with the vehicle and states drivers who are tall, short, wear glasses will experience this.
The Forward Attention Warning system in the refreshed 2025 Ioniq 5 gives constant false positives for both my wife and myself when we are driving the car. With Hyundai's HDA and lane keep active, the system keeps chiming, claiming that the driver is not looking at the road when we are. In fact, the calibration is so poor that it is a safety issue. The constant random warnings are very distracting, and sometimes the system does not recapture your eyes before timing out and hard braking the car on the highway. This is really unacceptable and a safety issue that I'm surprised Hyundai thought it could release. Lots of evidence of other owners with this problem on the Internet: [redacted] and many others.
