Owner reports

Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).

On April 20th while parking the vehicle suddenly had a power surge crossing over multiple curbs and across a parking lot and landscaped areas and hitting a tree. The vehicle refused to brake and the driver airbag never deployed.

Apr 2026 · crash · 1 injury

The ICCU (Integrated Charge Control Unit) failed. Fortunately I was in a parking lot at the time, as the vehicle limited its top speed to around 25 mph. Had the failure occurred on a highway it could have caused a collision. While this is a 2025 model year Ioniq 5, the ICCU hardware (part 36400-1XAA0) remains unchanged across all Hyundai/Kia/Gensis vehicles sharing the eGMP platform. NHTSA previously issued recall 24V-868 intended to address such ICCU failures. While the modified software is included from the factory in the 2025 model year Ioniq 5, it appears that the 24V-868 recall is not a complete fix. Indeed, ICCU failure continues to be one of the most commonly reported owner issues, both for vehicles which have already had the "fix" from recall 24V-868 and for newer vehicles outside of the recall's scope. …

For the HYUNDAI Ioniq 5 XRT, the ICCU, fuse and perhaps hybrid battery malfunctioned. We were in a disabled car on a 4 lane highway with traffic: On February 10, 2026, as we drove out of our home we heard a loud pop. As we got out onto a large 4 lane road near our house, the notice "Check Electrical System" came on and the car's power was drastically reduced. We made a U turn and drove (20 mph) back to our driveway. We were fortunate that this was mid-day and the road was relatively clear. Normally this is an extremely busy road with traffic moving at 40-50 mph and we would have had great difficulty even pulling out to the side -- as there is only marginal side space on this road. Hyundai has confirmed to us that the ICCU and a related fuse failed. They also think the hybrid battery is also involved and they are testing to confirm that. …

The car entered a failed ICCU state (not confirmed until the car was looked at by Hyundai at the dealership) while I was driving down to Ano Nuevo regional park. Received a warning on the dash that said that electrical system has failed and to pull over. It restricted me from going over 10 mph on Highway 1 and I eventually pulled over the side of the road and got towed to the dealership. The car is home with me now but I do not feel safe driving this vehicle after all of the reports of ICCU failures. I am very concerned this will happen again and in a more dangerous situation. I was also stranded by this car in March 2026 with a dead battery.

Jul 2026

The ICCU (Integrated charging control unit) failed, causing my car to go into "Limp mode" where it was unable to accelerate over 44 mph. This put my safety at risk as I was unable to accelerate on the freeway. The Hyundai dealer confirmed the problem and it is still there, with no estimated time for repair due to a shortage of replacement part. It was not inspected by the police or insurance. There weren't any warnings or symptoms prior to the failure. Hyundai has issued recalls for 2022-24 models for this problem but not the 2025, although it appears they have not fixed this for 2025 models.

Feb 2026

The electrical system failed while driving and I could not accelerate more than 25 mph with two children in the car. The error message said stop car and evaluate power supply. My safety and my children's safety were put at risk as I was driving on a highway and could no longer accelerate above 25mph. Yes the problem was reproduced. Manufacturer is inspecting now. There was a warning light that appeared only while driving and when the initial probably began. The dealer told me this is ICCU failure, this is happening frequently, there is no timetable to get a replacement.

Jan 2026

I heard a loud popped sound from the back of my car while driving home. The car lost power and eventually died on the street. The war displacy came on to tell em to check electrical system. I originally bought th car from Capitol Huyndai in San Jose on September 2025 and it has 5992 miles. I towed the car to Dublin Hyundai for repair and confirmed the DTCP1A9096 for ICCU computer failing to charge the 12 v battery. It was a well known recall . I do not have any update on the repair since 8/25/26. I worry about my safety because the car can lose power while driving

Aug 2026

When I started the car at 10pm , a loud pop was heard and warning lights on the dashboard indicated an electrical problem. I turned off the radio and anything extra that could use up power; during the next 45 minutes I took surface streets instead of the freeway to drive 22 miles back home and speed was limited to 40 mph. The next day the same warning lights were on the dashboard and speed was limited to 20mph; car lost power after 1 block. Car was towed to the dealer, where an ICCU failure and blown fuse in the engine was diagnosed by dealership and replaced.

Jun 2026

On [redacted] my Ioniq 5 stopped operating. It was totally dead. Could not be jumped. Car was towed to the dealership where they had replace the battery, ICCU and fuse. It took about two weeks for this to occur. The car had 3500 miles on it when this happened. Prior to the car not stopping an electrical warning light came on and the car speed was limited to 25 miles an hour but totally ran out of juice in about 10 minutes.

Nov 2025

Full electrical power system failure. Heard a loud pop noise emanating from under the rear seats of the car. The power. Failure lights came on and the car lost power. We were able to get the car to slowly drive back to the garage where it completely shut down and was inoperable from that point on. Car has been towed to the local dealer for diagnostics and repair.
