The steering rack malfunctions or fails. When driving at high speeds, the steering wheel gets stuck after being turned. It does not return to center and has to be yanked or forced back to center. There are hundreds of people that have mentioned this online about this Genesis model. This is a major safety issue, as jerking the wheel back to center can cause an accident, and if the wheel gets really stuck, it could cause a major accident. The issue has been confirmed by numerous reports and columns online. For my specific car, an independent service center confirmed the issue after test-driving the car. It has not been inspected by the manufacturer. There are no dash warnings, lights, or codes that indicate the issue. Hyundai should be paying to fix this safety issue. People are driving these cars who can't afford to get it fixed, which is putting others in danger as well.
About 5-6 months ago, when turning left or right, the steering wheel started essentially locking in that position, and I have to yank it back to center. It will not self-center. The dealer was not able to fix it, and it's a very dangerous car to drive now. I will not let any other members of my family drive it. Also, I've had a severe drivetrain vibration for about a year, and over $7,000 was spent on a new driveshaft and transfer case. It is now worse than it was and the dealer doesn't know what to do. Even with only 34,000 miles on the car, it is out of warranty, and Hyundai doesn't seem to care. I have installed brand new tires hoping that it might help both situations, but it didn't. I'm just at my wit's end now. I guess I will just have to park the car. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The vehicle exhibits a severe vibration and shaking at normal highway speeds, most notably around 70-80 mph. The condition is repeatable and occurs during steady freeway driving. The vibration is strong enough that the vehicle feels unstable and unsafe to operate at typical highway speeds. This condition significantly affects safe freeway operation. Due to the severity of the shaking, I no longer feel comfortable or safe driving the vehicle at or above normal traffic speeds, which increases risk when merging, maintaining speed with traffic, or responding to road conditions. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by authorized dealerships. Multiple inspections and repair attempts have been performed over several months for the same vibration concern. Major drivetrain components, including the rear differential and driveshaft, were replaced, but the vibration remains unresolved. …
So there are TWO main points of concern on this vehicle, number 1 being the steering racks. Many other people have had the same issue as myself. Steering rack completely shut down about a year ago on the freeway, rendering my steering completely useless which was extremely dangerous. 8K repair bill that Hyundai will not acknowledge. Now that comes to my 2ND point, the oil pressure sensor switch. It's more common than the steering racks. Many owners are reporting it as low at 40-50K miles, yet there's an open recall in Korea for this exact problem. But the USA does not get any acknowledgment for it??? Yet another costly repair due to defective engineering. Might I add as well, the transmissions Prior to 2018 no matter if you've had them replaced, they end up failing and people get absolutely 0 help with them. It's ridiculous and these issue can eventually cost someone their life some day.
The adjustment on the steering column for telescopic/up/down adjustments doesn't hold the steering wheel in place, even under light pressure like trying to honk the horn, the column just pushes in. Since the column cannot stay in place under light pressure, it won't stay in place if the driver's airbag is deployed possibly causing severe injury or death. I first noticed this problem back in 2015, the local deal refused to fix the problem and wanted me to pay for the NEW steering column and the labor to replace it.
As I was making a left turn going at a high speed the steering wheel popped out of my hands and made the car go back to the right ending up on a guardrail . The airbags deployed and my car is now totaled . Don't know if my axle broke or the steering wheel locked up but I do know one or the other happened .
Veering right since new 7/2012 on freeway and city streets. Undercarriage right side "tweaked" per Hyundai service rep in 2016. In shop since April 22 and out May 14, /2017 right control arm broken and coil spring bad (fixed per service rep), alignment still in red right front camber; steering wheel severely off center at times and now veers more to left and sometimes to right on city streets and highway; when coming to stop steering wheel becomes severely off center. In April 2017 was losing speed even though pressing on gas pedal and acting if wanting to stall several times with in a week (happening a few other times in past but thought due to being cold or bad gas.. When this happened psi light turned on. Happening on freeway and while merging onto freeway and other times on city streets. …
The car just completely shut down. Fortunately, I had just turned for home on a 25 MPH street so I was going slow enough that I could manage to at least get the car to the side of the road. Do not know what would have happened 15 minutes earlier if it had shut down on the busy interstate I was on. It did start back up again, but now am afraid to drive it anywhere. Have contacted Hyundai, but if there follow-up is anything like it has been in the past, it will be a waste of my time. They will just say that they cannot reproduce the problem and send us a coffee mug hoping that will resolve the issue. We have had numerous previous electrical issues: such as car starting back up by itself after being shut off, the radio literally popping on and off, the radio locking on a station (you could change channels, but the same station kept playing), the nav turning on and off by itself. …
