Owner reports
Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 2026 Honda CR-V owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).
The contact owns a 2026 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at 33 MPH, the vehicle ahead unexpectedly decelerated, resulting in a rear-end collision. The contact stated that the Forward Collision Warning system failed to activate prior to the crash. During the collision, the driver-side, front passenger-side, and rear passenger-side airbags deployed in a delayed manner, and the driver-side airbag appeared to rupture during deployment. The front end of the vehicle sustained extensive damage, and the vehicle was towed by the insurance company to a private impound lot. The contact was transported via ambulance to a medical center, where she was treated for a fractured sternum, broken ribs, chest contusions, and trauma leading to respiratory distress, requiring diagnostic scans, X-rays, and an EKG evaluation. A police report was filed. …
Vehicle Information: 2026 Honda CR-V Sport HybridComponent: Power Train / Hydraulic Brakes / Electronic Stability ControlDescription of Incident:On [Date], my 2026 Honda CR-V Sport Hybrid was parked facing uphill on a steep incline. I started the vehicle, depressed the brake pedal, released the electronic parking brake, and shifted into Drive. Upon transitioning to the accelerator, the vehicle failed to hold its position. It immediately and rapidly rolled backward down the incline, completely overriding the Hill Start Assist (HSA) mechanism. Despite accelerator input, the hybrid powertrain failed to deliver the instantaneous forward torque required to counter gravity. The vehicle gained rearward momentum and collided with a closed gate.Safety Justification:This un-commanded rollback presents a severe, systemic safety hazard. …
The contact owns a 2026 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that the infotainment system screen occasionally turned black or would freeze, which prevented the driver from having access to systems or safety features that could only be engaged through the infotainment system. Additionally, the contact stated that the rearview camera image was black due to the failure. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60-65 MPH, the contact heard a male voice coming from the infotainment system. The contact realized that a voicemail message that a customer had left to the contact several weeks prior was playing. The contact stated that the failures occurred intermittently but had become more persistent. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that a software update for the infotainment system was needed. The vehicle was not repaired. …
The contact owns a 2026 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving 45 MPH with the Forward Collision Avoidance: Adaptive Cruise Control feature activated, the vehicle independently decelerated unintendedly. The vehicle resumed normal driving operation immediately after the failure. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where the contact alerted a service technician that the Forward Collision Avoidance: Adaptive Cruise Control failure was an issue with the Apple CarPlay feature. The service technician acknowledged that the Apple CarPlay feature was a known issue and linked the adaptive cruise failure with that same defect. The service technician reset the software to the original factory settings to correct the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and acknowledged that the Apple CarPlay failure was a known issue. …
We were pulling into a parking space and were almost completely stopped. Suddenly the gas engine revved and we jumped the curb and crashed through the glass front of the restaurant we had ordered food from. as it lurched forward my wife was pressing on the brake yelling it won't stop! The engined revved without any pedal usage. The automatic braking system did not function. Called the dealer and of course they have never heard of such a thing. I talked with the dealer adn they recommended going ahead with the body repairs and then take it to a Honda dealer to run a diagnostic to see if any abnormalities show up. There were no warning signals at all. It happened so quickly. The car ended up going completely through the glass fron and when it stopped it had hit the cashier counter and was completely inside the restuarant. …
The contact owns a 2026 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while the contact's wife was driving at 50 MPH, the collision mitigation braking system erroneously engaged. The failure was persistent. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The failure mileage was approximately 16,650.
Collision mitigation braking system malfunctioned while pulling into a chic fil a parking lot at approximately 1800 on 12 December 2025. Entering the parking lot with a right hand turn, a car was exiting the parking lot and pulling up to their stop sign at the same time I was entering. Me and my wife were both in the car when the Honda crv we were in decided to absolutely slam on the breaks for no apparent reason. Both of us were stunned, I checked to see how close I was to the curb on the cars passenger side and I was clear. Wasn't close to the oncoming car either. I was going a very conservative below 10 miles per hour , with being in a parking lot and all, and it was the hardest braking I've ever experienced while being in a car. …
I am filing a safety complaint regarding my 2026 Honda CR-V. The front-mounted sensor used for advanced driver-assistance systems (including lane keeping assist and automatic emergency braking) is positioned in a way that makes it easily accessible and vulnerable to theft. My vehicle's sensor was stolen, which immediately disabled critical safety features such as collision mitigation braking and lane assistance. While the vehicle may still be drivable, the loss of these systems significantly reduces safety and increases the risk of an accident. This does not appear to be an isolated incident. Many other Honda CR-V owners across the country are reporting similar thefts of the same sensor. The issue has become so common that third-party manufacturers are now producing protective covers to prevent theft, indicating a widespread and known vulnerability. …
I purchased a brand-new 2026 Honda CR-V Hybrid. Less than three months later, the adaptive cruise control and collision-avoidance radar module was stolen in under a minute, forcing me to pay $2,650.98 out of pocket for repairs. In New York, the front radar module on the new Honda CR-V Hybrid is a frequent target for theft; owners often suffer losses of around $3,000 in just sixty seconds (exact costs vary by Honda service center). I consider this a clear design flaw by Honda: the collision-avoidance radar-which also integrates the adaptive cruise control function-can be easily removed using only a screwdriver, without even opening the hood or doors. This situation is completely unacceptable. Honda has failed to implement any anti-theft measures to prevent such incidents, leaving owners facing massive financial losses in the blink of an eye. This is unacceptable. …
My 2026 Honda CR-V has a major design vulnerability. I purchased this vehicle on 8/22/2026. On 10/1/2026 my vehicle was vandalized in the parking lot where I work. In a matter of seconds, without any special tools, a thief pried the front logo off the vehicle and stole the radar sensor/module which directly disables Honda sensing safety systems (including collision mitigation braking and adaptive cruise control) which causes cascading dashboard error lights (generating systematic driver distractions). The front logo lacks mechanical lockouts allowing thieves to leverage it off with a simple flathead screwdriver in under 30 seconds. After paying $38,000 for the vehicle, I now have to pay to replace the sensor/module. I received a quote from the local dealership for $1,892.66 (parts/labor), and there are no assurances that it won't be vandalized again. …
