Owner reports
Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 2022 Honda CR-V owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).
I had a medium sized doe run in front of the vehicle while on the highway. I had the adaptive cruise control set to 62 MPH with lane keeping assist and all other safety features enabled. When the deer ran out out in front of the vehicle the emergency breaking did not engage, nor did it flash the warning or make the chime. It caused major damage to the front center and drivers side of the vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. However, after the collision, the airbag light on the dash illuminated and stayed on. The airbag light has never came on before other than the illumination test when first starting the car. Also, the Hazzard lights did not com on automatically. The collision had enough impact to send the several hundred pound deer over 100' down the road. The only safety feature that partly worked was the retracting seat belts. …
The contact owns a 2022 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving 40-45 MPH, the vehicle buzzed and came to a complete stop with the collision mitigation braking system (CMBS) engaged. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal and was able to continue driving. The contact stated that there were no vehicles or objects nearby the vehicle at the time of the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the failure could not be duplicated; however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that the failure occurred despite turning off the CMBS. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 28,457.
The contact's daughter owns a 2022 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked during hot weather conditions, the interior of the vehicle would get hot, causing the lane departure feature to malfunction. The lane departure warning light illuminated and beeped. The failure caused distractions while driving and failed to deactivate until the vehicle cooled down. The contact stated that her daughter turned on the A/C to cool down the vehicle to correct the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the front camera system needed to be replaced; however, replacement parts were on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 1,850.
The contact's partner owns a 2022 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 MPH, the "BRAKE" warning light illuminated, and the vehicle almost stopped on the roadway. The contact stated the vehicle started moving forward again but nearly caused a crash. The contact stated that the failure had occurred intermittently while driving at various speeds. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 61,615.
The contact owns a 2022 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at a very slow speed in heavy traffic, the vehicle suddenly experienced "Phantom Braking" causing the vehicle to abruptly stop in the middle of the road, causing a second vehicle to almost crash into the rear end of the vehicle. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 18,540.
The contact owns a 2022 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the Forward Collision Avoidance: Automatic Emergency Braking unintendedly activated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and diagnosed as phantom braking. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 16,000.
The issue involves the driver's-side blind spot monitoring system. In my experience, the system does not recognize or alert me to vehicles approaching from behind in the adjacent lane until they are nearly even with the driver's door. In many situations, the blind spot warning light does not illuminate while a vehicle is occupying what most drivers would reasonably consider the blind spot area. Instead, the alert often appears only after the vehicle is already alongside my vehicle. This creates a significant safety concern. The purpose of a blind spot monitoring system is to provide advance warning of vehicles approaching from behind before a lane change is initiated. When the system does not recognize a vehicle until it is already beside the driver's door, the warning is delayed to the point that it provides limited practical value in helping prevent a collision. …
I was driving my 2021 Honda CR-V vehicle at residential speed (exact speed unknown). Car suddenly stopped in street causing me to jerk forward in driver seat. As the car stopped, I saw the orange BRAKE symbol appear in front dash. I was accelerating at time of incident. I was not using the brakes. I was injured with severe whiplash. Pain so severe that I also made an error with administration of a pain reliever when I arrived home. This put me and my passenger at risk due to the failure of what I learned was the CMBS in my vehicle. If another car was following too closely behind me at the time the car abruptly stopped, this could have been a more serious accident. This incident happened today 11/22/2023 at approximately 11:30 am EST. I have not had an opportunity to contact the dealer as I have been in pain since it happened. …
The car intermittently slams on the brakes, often at high speeds, and the brakes sticks, leaving me potentially unable to avoid a rear-end collision. This has happened twice with no obstacle in front of the vehicle in the last month and once within the last month where an obstacle was ahead but at a far enough distance the AES should not have been triggered, let alone stick. The front sensors (behind the rear view mirror and behind the Honda logo on the grill) have been inspected for damage by the dealership and user. They are in perceivably good working condition. This problem appears to be connected to a similar malfunction with LKAS, in which the system is turned off (according to the vehicle displays and verified by following owner manual instructions) and the car is driven on a surface with no lanes (I.e. a dirt road) and LKAS indicates there is a lane departure. …
Automatic Emergency Braking\Forward Collision Warning. I've got this vehicle as a brand-new about 10 months ago. Since fall 2022 there were several wrong BRAKE notifications on IP cluster screen with beeping signal while the road was clear, empty with no no precipitation weather. Probably the hill-like road surface can be a reason. Today it is sunny. My lane was clean and empty. In the left U-turn lane was a Chevrolet Tahoe or similar GMC vehicle with rear radar device noticable by rear bumper shape (it could be a reason of incident). When I was accelerating and getting closer to that vehicle but staying in my lane, my vehicle unexpectedely automatically used brackes for couple seconds until - I assume - the left vehicle has been passed or it just drove out. Several hours later my chest still aching besause of seatbelt hit. …
