Owner reports

Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 2008 Honda CR-V owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).

This vehicle had a wheel separation while traveling at low speed. The right rear wheel separated from the car. The cause is excessive rust to the trailing arm and specifically to the subframe to which the trailing arm is attached. The car is available for inspection. I also have photographs that show the problem. The safety issue is clear. After separation the car cannot be controlled if in motion. This particular vehicle has not been inspected. The wheel separation was reported by me to Honda in North America, to "Chris" in "client relations." A case number was issued for my complaint, #00499145. An insurance claim was made, but the insurer denied the claim. My research shows that this model CRV has been recalled in Canada for this precise problem. In Canada, Honda states that this model CRV has "excessive" rust, leading to failure. …

Hello I'm [redacted] and own a 2008 Honda CRV that runs fine. VIN [redacted] , but previous owner never went to the recall and I bought the car in 2014 and recently, during a brake job, I first became aware of the problem when my mechanic alerted me to the recall situation and the rusting out that was putting drivers in a very dangerous situation. My car failed the recall because of the rust causing the degradation of the rear suspension trailing arm, and now I'm left with a car not fit to drive? and I would be liable for whatever happens but I was never offered a solution to buy the car back something to help and I cannot be without one to get to Dr's or buy food live rural I have no choice living alone at [redacted] need a car. So a question, why am I the problem? …

Still no resolution to our air bags. Also, I drive my car a lot. I drive 100 miles a day. 5 days a week. I have over 160,000 miles. I have to buy tires all the time, my last set of 4 has 80,000 mile warranty and I have right at 28,000 miles on this set. I am having to purchase another set of 4 this week. I have paid about 7 or 8,000 dollars on tires I have purchased a least 10 set of tires because they don't wear evenly. I have purchased aliments on numerous occasions. I have purchased expensive tires 1000.00' to cooper tires 600.00! And every set has worn unevenly. I even rotate my tires every 5000 miles I was reading many complaining about the same issue. This is so unsafe traveling on interstate and road ways. Will you please investigate these problems. We really appreciate any help sincerely [redacted]

I purchased 4 new tires from les schwab on 11-29-17 (102t road control nw3 all seasons bw tires). Seven months later, on 6-20-18, one of the tires blew out. I had driven for 1-1/2 hours in 80 degree weather, and was idling at a traffic light when the tire blew (loud explosion). I didn't have any warning. The tire was split or separated near the rim. The tire had been inflated correctly and was otherwise in good condition. There hadn't been any cases of impact to the tire or an overloaded car. I didn't suffer any damage, because I was very lucky to not be on the freeway. Les schwab replaced the tire for free, as it was still under warranty. I asked what they think happened to the tire, because I'm concerned about whether or not I might have the same problem with the remaining 3 tires, and they didn't respond.

While driving my passenger rear wheel collapsed. Got it towed to riverside Honda in marquette mi. Was told the wheel rusted through the frame. We were lucky we weren't killed. After researching I found Canada has recalled 83,000 of the same year make and model. They were offering to buy back or fix vehicles if possible. I was told it can't be fixed. Honda USA corporation says we do not have any such issue. I dont believe it. What action do I take as they said its my problem ?

Zoriginal wheel sare so corroded around stems and rim that they loos air weekly, one 10-12 lbs each week. Honda seems disinterested and says it is news to them. My mechanic was aware iof an issue and we almost lost a wheel from the car on the hiway after having a wheel replaced on the car after some work. Mechanic says holes for the lug bolts corrode making the impact wrench think the wheel is secure.

Continental OEM tire on Honda crv causes vehicle to slide out of control on snow covered roads and constantly lose traction in rear. We have had numerous near accidents because of the poorly designed low rated tires. My wife is afraid of driving the crv now. (2) Honda dealers inspected vehicle for possible vehicle stability assist problem and both dealers confirmed that vsa was functioning properly. Dealer #2 stated that he had similar issues with other crv owners because of the tires. Looking at tire reviews on line the continental contact 4 x 4 is rated as a very poor tire that wears out very quickly and with similar issues as I have stated. Even the authorized continental dealer in my area says the tires are poor quality and has rarely seen them make 20,000 miles. Honda won't admit they made a poor choice putting this unsafe cheap tire on the crv. …

After having the car serviced at the dealership (oil change) I went to have the tires rotated. On the drive home the car was pulling to the right very hard and I had to fight to keep the car on the road. Discussed the problem with the tire store and took the car back the next day. After numerous tire rotations nothing fixed the problem and the car was now straying to the left, if I made a left hand turn, on top of pulling to the right, if I made a right hand turn. Neither the dealership or the tire store had ever experienced this, nor did they know what the problem was. Then I had the mechanic, from the dealership, drive the car and he blamed it on the tire pressure being off 5 pounds in the front vs the rear. However, he had the car in service department for 20-25 minutes and I did not see what was done to the car. …
