Owner reports
Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 1995 GMC Yukon owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).
Failure of driver seat mounting on the window side. The consumer found that the mounting holes, one on each corner of the seat, were retrofitted on the window-side (front & rear) by spot welding a threaded washer about three inches to the right of the corner holes to facilitate mounting of the seat to the rail on the floorboard. This particular design caused metal fatigue surrounding the spot-welded washers, resulting in the seat breaking loose.
The bolts that hold the driver's seat frame are cracking, causing the seat to rock back and forth. This is the third time that the bolts have broken away from the frame since purchasing the vehicle in August of 1995. The manufacture/dealer are aware of the problem. The dealer has replaced the bolts twice. The bolts do not correct the problem.
Driver's seat broke where seat was bolted to pedestal. Consumer states when getting into vehicle seat broke, sheet metal frame that foam and springs are attached to, next to the mounting bolt that holds seat to pedestal on the left front of seat.
Battery post was overtightened at factory, causing the terminal to break leaking battery acid; also noisy brake booster, seat bracket became loose and horn would blow intermittently upon turning corners.
Re seals, dealer said it had more to do with where I lived (extremes in temperature) - re rear end, dealer could work w/ us if auto had less than 60,000. No safety defect listed within summary.
Wiring for power seat controls run between seat cushion and seat frame, causing insulation to be rubbed from wires when larger people sit in seat, causing short in power seats and power door locks.
Driver's seat left front mount. Poor weldment overheated base material leading to tearing of seat frame around mounting nut. Conacted dealer and was informed it was not covered by warranty.
Vhicle experienced seat snapping loose from anchors while driving, almost causing a vehicle collision due to vehicle going out of control when seat fell backwards.
Driving car, frame brackets holding seat broke, seat went sideways/fell backwards, driver lost visual, had to pull to side of rd, used wiring to hold seat.
No adjustments can be made with the power seat switches. When the power options are engaged, only grinding and loud whining noises are to be heard.
